***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

I dunno ... maybe I shouldn't have posted Megyn Kelly, knowing the climate here 🤷‍♂️.

OTOH I thought there's hardly a thing any of us could disagree with what she or her guests said.

Sorry if I mucked things up a li'l. BUT (there's always a "but") maybe some posters could have ignored the source???

Anyway, let's all hold hands like the Swarm and maybe throw in a Kumbaya?
I thought it was spot on.

You understand it all has to do with a poster not willing to look and/or listen to something that is very much relevant to this thread because of who she is, right? That was my point the entire way. And there are plenty of back and forth pissing matches that go on here - just keep flipping through if you don't like it.
Look. I get it. There may be a mouthpiece that references a topic pertaining to this thread. Fine. If it would end there I would be satified. The issue is they all end up being pissing matches and it gets old.

I choose to be apolitical here and that is by choice. I just wish that the discourse wouldn't hijack so many threads. Football, basketball and the wrestling forums unfortunately are not imune.

I am not a volume poster here and generally comment when I feel strongly about a topic. I have been flipping by for quite some time now and today felt the need to express frustration. Take it for what it is worth, which is nothing in this keyboard warrior era.

Okay, back to basketball. I'm still puzzled why Becky Hammon is going with four guards against all that size the Liberty have. Anyone got a theory?

Trying to space the floor. Stokes is such a non factor offensively that NY just ignores her and clogs the paint.

I'm guessing she doesn't want Meg out there because of her lack of defense but the Aces aren't really stopping them either way...

Only looking at the box score but NY beat Las Vegas last night 88-84 to take a 2 games to 0 lead in the best of 5 series.

The Aces only played 8 players; 6'3" Center Kiah Stokes came off the bench and played 8 minutes, did not attempt a shot or a FT and ended up with this line: 2 fouls, 0 points, 3 rebounds (1 offensive), 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks.

6'4" Center Megan Gustafson & 6'0" Guard Kate Martin did not play (coach's decision).

We are at the WNBA's version of the Final 4.

Should be sell out crowds....Right?

Attendance (tickets distributed) Last Night:

8,796:
Connecticut at Minnesota (47% full; Target Center capacity: 18,798)

14,321:
Las Vegas at New York.......(75% full; Barclay's Center capacity: 19,000)

Not sure what you mean. They can’t afford to lose her. They will offer her whatever a max contract is.
KM salary negotiations is easy:
Kelsey, would you like $250k Supermax contract with or without core designation?
Would you like 1 year so you can renegotiate next year bargain agreement or multiple years?

Are the playoffs still going?

Well you all keep saying you're not watching but everyone keeps posting about them. I watched the Vegas New York game last night and it was pretty damn good honestly. Would I rather be watching CC? Of course. But I also like to see how many better players the Fever need to actually contend for the Final 4.

Exactly! You have to question the intelligence of any Iowa fan that would support that league after what it's done to CC.
Calm down there "all state". I was flipping the channel and saw the score. Never said I "watched " the game, did I? You probably should question the intelligence of people who comment on shit they don't know anything about. Just a word of advice, huh......

So we all know that Caitlin came into the W with more hype than probably any player in the W.

She brought more eyeballs than this league has ever seen.

The Fever broke attendance records, merch sales, viewership.

She, herself had a record setting season on so many levels, and arguably one of the best rookie seasons for any WNBA player.

With that being said, look what the NBA players did when Victor won Rookie of the Year.

What will the W players do?

Hell would freeze over before the WNBA did anything remotely close to recognize Caitlin and her accomplishments.

The thing is, you can go back and find video of LeBron, Steph, you name it, BEFORE THE SEASON EVEN STARTED where they were WELCOMING Victor to the league, talking about how excited they were to have him play, how special he was. No “levels to this thing.” No “reality is coming.”

Petty fvcking b!tches.

Not trying to be insensitive here, just an honest question. As someone who just started watching the WNBA this season, what racism is Sue referring to? From what I can tell the league’s players are mostly black. Were black players being repressed or not treated well in the league compared to white players/coaches? Or is she trying to say that’s why no one paid attention to the league until this year?

I am also new to the W this year but it is my understanding that she is generally referring to any reason why people previously have not cared to watch or be interested in the W. Now that lots of people do care, they seem to believe that it was only through the removal of stigma that people care about the W. That is, someone not black and not gay. This is exacerbated by the increase in trolls doing horrible/weird shit like generating deep fake porn videos for angel and such. So, I think the W establishment is conflating all of these factors together, and then they are jealous to boot.

But, what is really going on for the vast majority of new W fans is that they grew emotionally attached to someone playing the women’s game differently and more excitingly than anyone before her, and who did it on a massive stage in college Caitlin herself created. When that happened, the W became transcended, and you had a must see phenomenon like tiger, Mahones, Jordan, etc, who interestingly all were black. Then you throw in that Caitlin takes time for kids at games and public events and that she is a PR machine, and this further underscores Caitlin’s brand. And they are all jealous of that blazing hot brand, and it all comes together in a really unsightly way.

good questions/discussion.

i think that since most of us never watched the WNBA up until now, it's hard to know what the outrage is in regards to....

Could it be that white players were being subjected to it? Racism is a more than one way street.

My guess is they are blaming the fact that nobody was watching until a certain white girl started playing (nevermind that there were already white stars playing in the league).

Now you have the attention of millions and a ton of (warranted) criticism of how things are being handled in said league.

Instead of taking ownership of why things haven't gone the way you want them to, you claim bigotry. Easy out. The prior lack of success of the league could never be due to a poor product. We're the best women's basketball players in the world (who can't routinely make layups).

The lack of self-awareness is staggering.

Pretty much everything thing we've been saying:
  1. Retain Kelsey
  2. get a dependable 4
  3. get bench depth
  4. get help on defense
Aside from two no-brainer #1 draft picks, has Lin Dunn demostrated even a shred of competence?
