***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

The league total salary cap was ~$20 mil on $60 mil tv deal.
With a new deal of ~$250 mil per year, 1/3 is about $80 million divided by 16 teams would be $5 mil per team.
If you give 2 players 1 mil each and. $3 mil divided by 10 you are still major improvements.
Minimum Salary goes to $150k for 6 players. Last 4 ~mid players would average ~$500k each vs $240k max today.
The top players SHOULD get a million each with the new deal.
Of course, the 12 teams had a $50 million loss this year, so really you're only working with $30 million if you want to be financially whole, so a little under $2 million per team.

Why should the losses come out of players share? The league kept 2/3 of old $60m. The $50 mil loss should come out of the leagues $170 million share. From $40 mil to $170 million is $130mil increase more than covers the loss.

NBA is 44% of income.
NFL is 48% of profits.
Either way, 1/3 of ONLY tv revenue is probably conservative ask.

If you think players are going to accept a 50% increase on 300% tv contract increase, a strike will happen and truly kill the league.

The players are always going to get the shaft.

I see that the Aces, in the 10 point loss, only played 8 players (but 35 year old 5'8 guard Sydney Colson logged only 4 minutes).

31 year old 6'3 center Kiah Stokes played 13 minutes and had 1 shot attempt (missed a 3) and 0 FT attempts. Her stat line: 1 turnover, 1 foul, 0 points, 1 defensive rebound, 0 assists, 0 steals and 0 blocks.
Stokes is already 31 year old? It felt like yesterday when I wished she would follow her dad's footsteps and attend Iowa.

And it felt like last week when I saw Candace Parker squeezing into the student section a few rows behind me in the Kinnick Stadium. I also wished she would follow her parents' footsteps and attend Iowa then.

This is the most unserious league ever.

How f’n stupid.

I love watching CC play.

With that said, I look forward to the league going back to the gutter when she leaves.

They 100% deserve it.

PS I feel so sorry for her, all she wants to do is play the sport she loves. But since the GOAT is white and straight they hate her.

6'4" Megan will turn 28 on Dec 13.

6'3" Kiah will turn 32 on March 30.

I didn't watch one second yesterday; just looking at the box scores.

The Connecticut Sun won 73-70 at Minnesota last night. Minnesota had a 5 point lead (62-57) after 3 quarters. The Lynx got outscored 16-8 in the 4th.

The Minnesota offense, by quarter: 16, 22, 24, 8. Yuck.

Target Center was just 45% full. Announced attendance (tickets distributed) was 8,506. Target Center seats 18,798 for basketball.

Crazy bad basketball and attendance, but not surprising at all. If Caitlin had been playing, the arena would have been full (half of the crowd would have been CC/Fever fans, however).

Be careful with arguments like that. You'll be accused of saying that the league should have just let the Fever through to the 2nd round because she's the chosen one that gets a special whistle.

Didn’t know Parker’s dad played at Iowa. Damn, Candace would have been a nice get.

Bradley is not in Iowa
Candace Parker's dad Larry played for Iowa from 1972-76. I remember seeing Candace at an Iowa WBB game in 2003 or 2004 with her parents sitting all by themselves. I have never seen a recruit look so bored. She probably already knew she was going to Tennessee and felt obligated to give her dad's school a perfunctory visit.

You know what is sad is that most of you really don't realize that recruits and media read these posts.

You all are a huge reason why Iowa fans have such a bad reputation at the moment.

There's nothing wrong with what I said.

The league was trash before CC. The league is trash without her.

A few losers like yourself watched but that was it.

They HATE this girl that has done nothing to them.

They are racist petty jealous bitches. SHE is the reason the seats are filled. SHE is the reason their salaries will increase. SHE is the reason they get to travel in planes.

Carrington, Reese, and the rest can get what they deserve.

I guess that means you think Caitlin is a loser.

CBS: there are other stars ... blah blah ... "League-wide attendance is up 48%."

Yeah, when a team normally draws 4k but switches venues for Caitlin and draws 15k, 16k, or 18k that's going to skew the numbers. Plus throw in the extra 10k (?) the Fever are drawing every home game and that adds up quickly too.

I'd like to see the percentage change in attendance for non-Fever games. Thinking it's basically minimal.

So I see that for the expansion draft teams can protect a maximum of six players on their roster. What are your predictions for Megan and Kate? I think Meg goes unprotected and is taken by Golden State Valkyries. I think Kate is unprotected and untaken. Anyone think otherwise?

Not sure about where Meg goes but agree she goes unprotected and gets drafted. Agree on Kate as well. Just not enough value to get drafted.

But I bet the LGBTQ people felt safe in the arena without all of the cheering.

Non-Caitlin games saw an average attendance of 8,530 vs. overall league average of 6,615 last year, or a 29% increase, so there was a bump. This was driven mostly by NY (+57%) and LA (+62%) and their associated large venues, however. Most franchises saw a modest 8-16% or so increase (non-CC games). Connecticut saw a 34% increase, but this corresponds to only about 1.200 people (arena capacity of about 9,000).

That was Christine Brennan’s point about putting her on the Olympic team. People tune in to see Caitlin, but that can have the effect of sparking interest in women’s basketball in general. From this information, it appears she was correct. But she’s persona non grata these days, so she’ll get no credit.

Who are the 6 the Fever are going to protect? The top 4 are obvious:

Clark
Mitchell
Boston
Hull

I think the next two are one of these three:

Wheeler
Dantas
Fagbenle

IMO Smith will be unprotected and drafted by Golden State.
Wheeler is a free agent making 200k plus (2nd to KM). You only protect her if you plan to pay her. OR if you are trying to encourage them to pick smith.
Dantas and Fagbenie are the right answer.
GS can only select 1 free agent total, so the question would be, is Wheeler the BEST free agent unprotected in the League?
