Unrivaled sees expected dip in week two

The new women’s basketball league Unrivaled is averaging 194,000 viewers across TNT and truTV through two weeks, with that average rising to 238,000 when truTV-exclusive games are excluded.

Coverage on Monday night averaged 166,000 on TNT/truTV (Laces-Rose: 192K; Lunar Owls/Vinyl: 134K), down 10% from the prior Monday window — which had a lead-in from an NBA Martin Luther King Day doubleheader, but also faced tougher competition from the CFP National Championship and Inauguration Day (184K).

Saturday coverage averaged 98,000 on truTV alone (Lunar Owls-Phantom: 118K; Mist-Rose: 76K), on par with the prior week (100K).

Going back to last Friday, coverage on TNT/truTV averaged 281,000 (Vinyl-Laces: 289K; Mist-Phantom: 274K) — down 10% from the prior week, with the obvious caveat that it was the debut telecast (313K). The two Friday windows account for the league’s four most-watched games.

I have a hard time anybody watches this BS as the WNBA is bad enough given their hate/jealousy/pettiness.

Have Kate pass her the ball???

full text of tweet:

REPORT: Caitlin Clark has declined the NBA’s offer to participate in the three-point contest during All-Star weekend, per @SBJ

“Sources said Clark is not interested in shooting three-pointers off of a ball rack — considering her practice regimen consists only of catch-and-shoot three-pointers or shots off the dribble — and, unless she is persuaded otherwise, she will decline the invitation.”

If anyone has a brain they will make it optional to have a passer. They probably have the racks to begin with to save time in the shooting process and eliminate the possibility of a mishandled pass, so not having a rack is probably a detriment.

I’d hate to see her get the jitters for the first time in front of NBA players/NBA crowd and huge TV presence and do bad. I just feel she has nothing to prove. But if she does, I’ll be glued to the TV.

She's about the most jitter free basketball player I have seen. She's a clutch killer like Michael, Kobe, Bird, Magic, etc.

So Plum to Sparks, Loyd to Aces, Griner to the Dream, and Alyssa Thomas to the Mercury. so that means Bonner also likely to the Mercury. I think Satou will sign with the Liberty to play with her sister and Sabrina. Of big names that might make sense, that leaves Brionna Jones, Natasha Howard and Nneka Ogwumike?

Could the Fever attempt to acquire Kate Martin in a trade? Seems like a good fit and Clark has publicly expressed a desire to have her as a teammate.

Not sure why she would decline this unless, I suppose, she is just awful pulling from a rack. The crossover exposure would be great for all the NBA fans that won't glance at the WNBA.

*On the other hand, this opportunity will come again, and if she is that dialed in with her workout goals to level-up, I'm pretty curious about what she pulls out of the new bag in year 2. Pretty obvious a championship and an MVP is the primary focus.
No pressure, Caitlin.

I don't like this. It would be a huge opportunity to grow her brand to an even higher new level, and caters to her wheelhouse in terms of skill. If I was Nike, gatorade, et al, I would be like what the hell?
I'm not so sure. I have watched the NBA 3-pt contest many times, and about every time there is one great shooter that completely fails. No one really remembers when an NBA player crashes and burns. But IF CC (or Sabrina Ionescu) did poorly, I think the ridicule would be intense.

I would think that Golden State will want to hold on to Kate for merch sales alone, in addition to what she can contribute on the court.

And I don't think the Fever have anyone that Golden State would be interested in.

No guts no glory.

"Indiana has been my second home since I went pro, so this is the only city I know," Mitchell said in the video. "To see you guys open your arms up to me ... that was a big part of me coming back, because I got to meet great people. Then I met one of the greatest people in the world, Caitlin Clark, who just ran the basketball world. I think, together, we hope to make you guys proud."
