****Official Cubs 2015 Thread****

I don't like the new TV arrangement, either. Some games are on 9.2 and some are on 9.3. Some just aren't on. But, it beats not having games locally. In a few years we'll all be paying extra for the games.
What's really confusing is no WGN radio. I was in Illinois last week and knew the Cubs were playing, but couldn't figure out why they weren't on the radio. Forgot the flagship station had changed.

Does WGN not carry any Cubs games this year?

There are two WGN's. There is the local broadcast you get in Chicago, and there is WGN-America. That's the one that goes out all over the country to cable and dish subscribers. A few years ago they made the decision to separate the two entirely, and get out of TV. Problem for the Cubs was they couldn't arrange any deals to get the games WGN covered on the air. Comcast gets a block, but nobody but WGN had the infrastructure to broadcast that many games. It'll change in 3 years or so when the deal is up and Crane Kenney has finished diddling around to create a Cubs network of some sorts. I think it'll wind up some part of Fox, like you see so many other MLB affiliations.

Solver having a great game. He appears to be a great hitter with plate awareness, and a great arm. What is not to like about him.

He needs to harness the arm. It is powerful, but he doesn't have great accuracy. His plate discipline is excellent. Maybe too excellent. There are AB's where you see him being very selective, and as a fan I just want to see him extend his arms and unleash his tremendous power.
Then I remind myself how young and raw he is.

First place and...and bitches......scouts thought Soler was better than Puig....add in Bryant.....cubs Royals series....I win either way.

I think you live in eastern iowa? My understanding was that KCRG was showing all wgn games this year?

Because of the sweet tv deal I haven't see much of the Cubs, but sounds like Lester was a gas can again last night? And first time they are 2 over since 09??? Ouch!

So...Cubs sign a guy who is earning a gajillion dollars a year...who can't throw a baseball in any fashion other than pitching?

How did Theo not know this?

The NL will eat this guy alive. I know he's just rounding back into shape following the injury in ST, but still.

Cubs came back, and almost got it. Chapman did his thing.

Get the rubber game tomorrow. I think tomorrow night's game is on the weird channel, so might be tough to watch.

I think it's only on locally in Chicago. It'll be Pat Hughes for me tomorrow night.
Former Cub Jason Marquis will go for the Reds on Wednesday. I don't think he has pitched in the majors since 2013 due to an injury. A good game to get into the Reds bullpen early.

It's on 9.2 in CR market tonight.
It was, which was odd. The game wasn't a WGN game. I thought KCRG was picking up all the WGN games. In Chicago it was on WPWR.
It might be a very interesting few days for the Cubs. Neil Ramirez left the game with "soreness", in his shoulder. Justin Grimm already is on the DL. Tommy LaStella is on the DL, and Olt is day-to-day. Meanwhile down in AAA Kris Bryant is hitting the ball very well. Bringing him up Friday is a tiny risk. It would be right on the edge of the 12 day rule for a year of service. Boras will certainly look to challenge the Cubs.
The Cubs are still carrying three catchers, which is making it harder to provide bench flexibility. If Olt has to go to the DL is it worth the risk to bring up Bryant? Hello Chris Valaika?

Cinco de Mayo? ;)

Actually, at minimum, he needs to spend 9 days in the minors. Most think he will do a bit more, just to be safe regarding service time issues. Keep in mind, if he gets less than 172 days service time in the majors, the Cubs retain control for an extra year.

And no, I have no problem with it as almost every team has done it with one of their studs, and it happens almost every year somewhere. If the MLBPA truly had an issue, why approve it that way in the CBA?

I hope not. It would be a waste of a service year. I think there is some question as to if he can come up Friday or Saturday and beat the 12 day rule. They've been limping along with the short bench, so I assume Theo and Jed can manage it for a weekend series. If Olt is available for limited duty this weekend then make no moves. Ramirez is likely to go to the DL, and I think the roster move there may be to bring up Chris Denorfrio (SP). He's on a minor league rehab and seems ready. Currently the Cubs are carrying 13 pitchers.
If Olt is unavailable and someone who can play infield must be brought up it'll be Chris Valaika in my opinion. Even though that would expose him to being claimed by another team when he's sent down. On the Cubs sites you see people saying Christian Villanueva or Johnathon Mota. Villanueva has never been above AA, he does have options, however. Mota is an organizational guy, and if he came up he's unlikely to be claimed by anyone when shipped back down.
We'll probably know shortly when the I-Cubs line-up for tonight is released. If the plan is to bring up Bryant he'll be on a plane soon.

The MLBPA works for the in-place players, not rookies who haven't been called up yet.

Rookies getting an extra year of higher salaries take away from those already there making bigger money.

Plus, consider that Bryant, last I knew, wasn't on the 40 man roster.

And, he's at bat as I type for the I-Cubs against the New Orleans Zephyrs. No way he's coming up for a game tomorrow.

Jesse Rogers and Bruce Miles both say it's happening. Bryant was not in the line-up for game #2 of the double header versus the Zephyrs tonight.
Somewhere in Rosemont Theo and Jed are unlocking a warehouse full of Bryant jerseys tonight.

i have tickets to the game on saturday but can't use them, if anyone is looking to go.

i just looked on the cubs website, and it is reporting that bryant has been promoted.

Just got the first text from one of my friends that live in Chicago saying he's skipping out of work for the game.

I'm trying to convince myself to not do the same. I was really hoping to be productive tomorrow, but I imagine come about noon I'm going to put down the computer and enjoy the game.
