****Official Cubs 2015 Thread****

Face it, the Cubs are awful and the Cardinals are God! The Cardinals are the greatest team in the history of baseball, just ask their fans. The new Busch is garbage. The Cubs won't win again until next week. They are mentally weak and pathetic. Young and stupid. Good luck Joe Maddon. Thanks for a fun April.

Breath in.....breath out........ repeat

May 6th, folks.

Sooner or later, the Cards' bullpen arms are going to explode at this pace.

I've said many times that I think this is going to be a streaky team. I would expect that they'll end around .500 as long as they stay reasonably healthy. There's a lot to like about this team looking forward over the next couple years, but they're not going to be a polished winner this year. They'll have flashes of brilliance and they'll have stretches where they play like the young group they are....but the progress being made this season is obvious, even in the bad losses.

3 wins in a row over a very good team is impressive. Hammel's matched Harvey pitch for pitch tonight.

Imagine the record (I know still early) if we took a few more from the lowly Brewers.

Agreed. Just need to stay within striking distance. 5 out today and 2nd in the division. Those slumps against the Brewers are not helping. Need to keep pace.

Strap on the safety harness for the wild ride this season is going to be. We've already seen them be streaky and I expect it to continue. That said, I think, on the whole, the kids will continue to grow. Rizzo has been a revelation this year and Castro, despite some slumping over the past couple of weeks has been good. Bryant has adjusted to the league's adjustment and that will continue...but on the plus side, he's kept having good at-bats in spite of the strikeout numbers. Russell is growing.

The starting pitching will be anywhere from solid to very good. I think the bullpen will be mostly steady. I think they'll mostly live and die by how the offense scores. I'll take this roller coaster over the flatline of the last 5 years for sure.

If you look at runs scored vs allowed, it is clearly the pitching that has been an issue.

Has been, yes, but I don't think that will continue. Lester got off to a rough start and Hendricks has been pretty inconsistent, plus there were bullpen problems as they fought through some injuries. On the whole, though, as the season progresses, I think the pitching will be more consistent than the offense. I could be wrong, but that's what I expect.

I love the way this sweep happened. They did have the one game where they cruised to the 6-1 win, but they had to fight good pitching in the other days and managed to find ways to get on base, find ways to move around and find just enough ways to score. Yesterday, a walk-off walk. Today, get a runner to 3rd and score the go-ahead on a passed ball. It's so good to see the Cubs doing unCub things and figuring out how to win ball games.

Maddon needed just about everyone today. Good team win. Wood is in real danger now of being pushed out of the rotation by Wada. The Cubs are paying Wada a lot of money. They won't keep him in Des Moines forever.

Can't believe today's game is still going on.

Oh yeah, the wind is blowing out big time. Yeah, I believe it.

just glad the pitt rf didn't slip on a small sprinkler head. you'd think they don't have those on mlb fields, but they're out there. i think he just slipped on the wet grass....

The Cubs already have a good offensive infield:
4 Superstars in the making with Rizzo, Russell,
Castro and Bryant. They also play decent defense.
This is becoming a team to be reckoned with.
The Cubs are currently on a 5 game winning streak.

Last five games, they've won on a walk-on walk, scored a winning run on a passed ball and won today when an OF fell down. I love it!

In all seriousness, though, the IF of Rizzo, Castro, Bryant and Russell could be really good for a long time.

6-1 home stand. That's very nice. Now the team gets a day off before starting a series on the road.
Curious happenings over the next two days on the roster. Wada must be added to the 25 MLB roster, so who goes? Jackson, or shuffle Schiltter or Rosscup down to AAA with Wood going to the bullpen. Also, Javy Baez was pulled from today's game in Des Moines without an injury. He's been mashing the ball, and the Cubs need to move another reliever off the roster to expand the bench. Would you put Baez in LF? He has no business coming up to platoon or be a bench guy. He needs to hit every day.

There is a lot of speculation about this. It was a little muggy on Friday and Saturday, but, the more tempting theory is that a 23 year old with a pocket full of cash decided to have some fun the night before.

Sounds like a good deal. I wish Wellington well, and hope he finds more playing time in Seattle.

I would have rather received a low A arm in return. It was reported that Medina has suffered a large drop in velocity this year. That spells trouble. Theo and Jed must have convinced themselves there is a reclamation project in Medina somewhere, and they also realized carrying three catchers was creating a lack of flexibility.

I kind of agree with you but maybe they found something in Medina's mechanics that is the reason for the reduction in velocity. I didn't think much of Strop or Arrieta when they picked them up, so I'll trust Theo/Jed's judgement here.

Theo and Jed have a great track record with the Cubs of finding young-ish arms they can get value out of. Nobody hits on every play, but I'll trust their judgment here, hopefully Medina can provide some value this year.

Another win, and another Kris Bryant home run last night. Bryant hit an impressive shot to CF in San Diego, which is a poke. A meatloaf series with the Padres, and hopefully another one with the D-Backs.
