*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

Pretty soon I'll have to point out how bad the NL is and that the Cubs are padding their record against crappy teams.:p

Not yet, tho.

And you'd be wrong once again, for the second year in a row the NL is the stronger league. Also, the Cubs just got finished a stretch of six out of seven series against teams over.500 and won every single one of those.

Kyle Hendricks has looked like Greg Maddux these past few years— similar stuff, similar demeanor, similar results.

You do realize that I'm just yanking your chain, right?

Divorce sucks.
Baseball is secondary but does this mean that awful walk up music will change when he returns?

Reports on Twitter this morning indicate that Ben's wife filed for divorce in Cook County, which is a matter of public record.

Terrible situation. From everything I know, there is no finer man in baseball than Ben Zobrist. You have to wonder if trying to save his marriage was why he was late for Spring Training.

Looks true unfortunately

Hopefully he can get back to baseball soon and have it as an outlet. No idea what's driving the divorce, but I've never heard any sniff of anything other than Ben Zobrist being a great guy on and off the field. She must have her reasons and it's not our business, but hopefully Ben can get back soon. I'll even live with the awful walkup music if it means he's back with the team.

Honestly, I could see him retiring. Or, maybe making a brief go of it and retiring. He seems to be a great dad. I can see him just concentrating on the kids.
This was probably going to be his last year. If he plays next year it will be at a steep discount, and only for a select few teams that could fit him in to their bench.

Will his walk-up music still be his (ex) wife’s rendition of Benny and the Jets?

...

Too soon?

Julianna Zobrist has filed for divorce from her husband, Cubs utilityman Ben Zobrist, according to Cook County court records.

Julianna, whose maiden name is Gilmore, hired Berger Schatz attorney Karen Krehbiel, who represented Chicago billionaire hedge fund CEO Kenneth Griffin in his split with Anne Dias Griffin in 2014.

Julianna Zobrist, a 34-year-old Christian singer, did not provide a reason for seeking a divorce in her petition, which was filed Monday. The Cubs granted Ben Zobrist, 37, a leave of absence a week ago.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said he has been texting with Zobrist during his time on the restricted list while the infielder deals with a “family matter,” the Tribune’s Mark Gonzales reported Tuesday.

Ben Zobrist also missed some time during spring training. The Cubs said at the time he was attending to a personal matter.

Ben and Julianna were married Dec. 17, 2005, in Iowa City, Iowa. They have three children.

Great day for Darvish to start. Off day on Monday, and Hendricks went 8 innings yesterday. The bullpen should be ready to go 5 innings.

Oh dear.
Need some legal analysis here.

From the Sun-Times article:

Separate filings in different jurisdictions in cases involving large marital assets are not uncommon. Marital assets for the purpose of divorce proceedings in some states are determined at the date of filing. Illinois is among the states that determine assets on the date the divorce is final.

Zobrist is due more than $9 million for the remainder of this season in the final year of his four-year contract with the club.
