*****Official Cubs 2023 thread*****

Terry Mulholland and Rod Beck lead the Cubs to the 1998 playoffs.
Terry Mulholland had a rubber arm. I swear he pitched 4.2 innings every other day for the Cubs down the stretch that year….and Shooter had the rest. Get the starter to the 4th and it was all set, day after day.

I thought Kevin Tapani would have been better for the Cubs.
I'm not sure what the point is of all these random thoughts (other than to be annoying), but Tapani was pretty frickin' solid for the Cubs for 2 seasons, then he started slipping once he hit his late-30s. Maybe he should have been 'roiding-up like Roger Clemens and most other players who suddenly became dominant around that time.

My god, MLB Central divisions have a combined 3, count em 3, teams with winning records as of right now.

Best team of the ten is three games over 500.

Woof

Sounds like someone came over here to vent some last-place frustrations. I guess that's understandable, when your team has a payroll that is >150% of the two first place teams COMBINED.

Not sure you can argue with any credibility when ALL 5 teams in the AL east are over 500.

Cubs play in dogshit division and still have losing record.

Care to try again or have you had enough?

Cubs don’t have a losing record. Care to try again?

Apologies...500 record.

Big woop!
.500 at this point is pretty damn good and the Cubs are better than their record ( although your records says....).

Baseball is what it is nowadays. There are a BUNCH of teams right around .500, unless you live in the AL East. It doesn't look like any teams are tanking on purpose as in years past, and no, the A's don't count.

The Cubs have played just under 24 pct of their games vs their division and that team from NY only 30 pct but of course douchebag Yankee fan is here in May using the division excuse to distract from yet another year of choking with a $280 million payroll. Pathetic.
Funny shit there.

The entire Central is meh, so what's your excuse for everybody else?

What does payroll have to do with it other than the fact that most Central teams barely try to improve and ownerships are happy to just pocket the revenue?

Keep this discussion to the Cubs and we'll get along just fine.

Yeah. If my team was spending $65 million more than any team in the division and was still in last place I'd try to talk about something else too. Again, pathetic. If you decide to stop trolling this thread for no reason we will get along just fine but I don't really care about playing nice with douchebag Yankees fans so either way...

Sucks that I waited 90 minutes for this BS game to start.
That's baseball.
Working from home and having the podcast, I try to watch as much Cubs baseball as possible, but today my youngest had a game at 2:15 and then we were having people over tonight, so I just tracked on the gamecast and damn if I didn’t pick the right day to check out.

In all honesty, why are you even in this thread?
Bored at home?
Wife not putting out?

Lots of teams worse than the Cubs attempting to make a comeback.

Yankees haven't won $hit in quite a while.

Just trolling?

Looking for attention?

If so, maybe you should just bow out.

Find another hobby.

Cubs thread and I'm commenting on Cubs.

Yeah I'm bored, but every discussion needs varying opinions.

Plus...I think I made a pledge earlier in the season that I'd no longer post if Cubbies made the post season this year, so this could be my last hurrah.

Well, on the bright side, the bullpen didn't have to pitch the 9th inning the last 2 games.

Saving them arms.

I am sorry, I couldn’t hear you from all the way down there in last place. Can you type louder?

Gotta admit, pretty funny times when Yankee fan has to take out his frustrations and make himself feel better by ripping on the Cubs. The Babe would be ashamed.

We both know you'd trade the results of the two franchises in a heartbeat.

Anyone would.

So you're like the Penn State wrestling fans that always only discuss the recent pass?

LOL on the ten year window shit.
You’ve got great Franchise who struggle for 15 years followed by 15 great years, average now again.

I'm kinda surprised you didn't choose to start your "franchise comparison" with the 2016 season.

Which team is affectionately referred to as "the loveable losers"?

Funny stuff.

when do Cards pass Cubs in the standings?

over/under Memorial Day
UGH! Cards seem to be finding their footing, and Memorial day is 2 weeks away....

1-2 to start a 9 game roady and Houston is next.

On a positive note, prospects are tearing it up. I'd love/hate to be the GM or President of the Cubs in about a month and a half or so. So, so, so many decisions to make.
