****Official Dayton Game Thread****

Officials were awful, but it's college bball - nothing new there.

We dug ourselves too big a hole in the first ten minutes of the second half.

Hopefully the boys can take something away from this one.

Hopefully, Dayton really is good. I think they're a solid team. Good guards.

But Iowa is in trouble in the Big Ten if their post players are getting owned by Dayton.

Refs can eat a giant gamecock. To be that inconsistent is flat gardage. To miss the foul in mike then call Clem on the steal. Just horseshit down the stretch.

Well came back from 14 down.. Again, still look pretty solid for rest of season.lapses somewhat expected with new guys, but uthoff went cold a little too. I think he tries hard to take team on his back and can start forcing. But saw good tonite as well even with loss.

Did you even watch the game or just the last 5 min. Dayton led for 31 straight minutes, most of that by 10+ pts. Get a clue.

So you're going to ignore the part where Iowa came back and led by 4? It's a 40 minute game, not a 31 minute game. Refs sucked and Iowa's defense sucked. Dayton wasn't that much better though.

Not like the rest of the big 10 has represented well, except maybe Michigan State.

Enough to say that was the reason they lost? No

Well if they let that be a steal for Clemmons, then yes, I think it's an Iowa win. Like I said though, it went both ways most of the game. College refs love blowing those whistles and tonight was a showcase of that.

Refs affected the way the team attacked the rim and played the game. Total horsecrap. When the Dayton player pushes Woodbury out of bounds under the basket and no foul is called? You know they wanted Dayton to win.

Dayton was definitely more athletic, but the refs completely took over tonight. I'm used to phantom calls from college refs but this game took it to a whole new level.
Iowa didn't do themselves any favors. Refs were shit the first half and decided to reemerge after take a breather

Not ignoring that at all. Just saying that the refs didn't cost Iowa the game, their lack of quickness on defense did.

Iowa will be ok. We weren't going undefeated and this shouldn't be a bad loss. Refs were HORRIBLE, but you've got to overcome that. I like our chances if we played Dayton again.

So Iowa had to go on an 11-0 run to take the lead but the refs were 100% of the reason they lost. Keep sounding like a moron.
Yes. 100% of the reason. Those are my exact words. Not a strawman at all. We missed zero shots all game.

We almost did. If officiating was balanced, we win.

Doesn't help when bad calls force your starting pg to the bench for most of the game. That affects defense and the way we play. The refs impacted this game. Still, when you get the lead you cannot take bad shots and miss free throws.

I have seen so much complaining with no ideas for improvement other than "my guys should always win" and "we are always right".

Trump "arguments" don't change anything. They justify the isolation of "I'm right, you're wrong".

Oh really? You've seen those arguments? I'm assuming you're being serious since you put quotes around them. If you aren't them I'm not sure what the point of your post is. College basketball refs are terrible. The NBA has it right, the default should always be to swallow the whistle unless you actually see a call. In college ball the default is to blow the whistle if it looks like it may be a foul but the ref isn't for sure. Way too many anticipated fouls (that aren't actually fouls) being called in college bball.

Unless you officiate at a very high level, you are just high.

NCAA officiating is trying to replicate the NBA in eliminating contact. NBA officials make mistakes all the time. Just ask a fan of any NBA team.

Calls are not made unless seen. Try justifying your concept of "anticipation" in real time. "I think this might happen,........" is just uniformed fan spew.

Get on the floor with a whistle and see what it looks like. Not from multiple TV camera replays.

Lol what a dumb post. In the NBA the refs wait that extra half second to make sure there is actually a foul. Somehow NBA refs can do it with bigger stronger and faster athletes at every position but we can't expect that from college refs.

I wish I was high instead of trying to get you to understand that the refs tonight were very bad. Anticipation was probably the wrong word, it's more guesswork for college refs. If they don't know, they blow their whistle.
