*****Official HORT Golf General Discussion Thread*****

He’s playing the majors. He just won the PGA and tied for second at the Masters. He’s playing in shorts on LIV and raking in the bucks.

My point is, LIV seems to be working out for Koepka.
Yep, but even with all this I have heard rumblings he wishes he could get out of LIV and go back to the Tour.

He took the LIV money because he had what could have been a career altering injury. LIV was offering him big money. I do not fault him one bit for taking the money given what he was dealing with. Now that he is recovered and playing at an elite level I bet it is killing him to not be able to tear up the Tour week in and week out and instead is stuck at LIV that nobody is really watching.

Koepka will never be the player he could have been (legacy-wise) because of his LIV decision.
The Tour us where it is.
I tend to agree. The defectors that bother me the most are Cam Smith and Brooks. They're great golfers and I'd like to see them more often. Also was looking forward to seeing Mickelson make his way through DSM on the senior tour in a couple years. But I think that bridge has been burned and the ashes pissed on.

What I find really uncomfortable about Koepka’s win is this us going to throw Zach Johnson in to the middle of a controversy he had nothing to do with. Zach will be “damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t” pick Koepka fir the Ryder Cup team. It is something ge didn’t bargain for. But, especially if the US doesn’t win, he will feel heat over whatever his decision is.

He has to pick Brooks. The ONLY reason not to is to cave to the PGA Tour, and Zach’s responsibility is to put a team out there that has the best chance of winning. I bet the other 11 guys on the team would want Brooks out there.

BUT he is not playing Tour golf. LIV is “AAA” ang The Tour is “ the Show”…
His LIV decision will always come back to haunt him…He and Smith are the biggest losers here.
LOL, you just as big of an idiot when it comes to golf as every other subject

Why would Brooks not be on the US Ryder Cup team? seems like an easy decision for Zach

I dunno, Koepka never seemed overly excited about normal tour events once he started winning majors, He has more major wins than regular tour wins. No matter what tour he plays, When healthy he seems to have a damn good formula that works for him in regard to preparation for the majors.

The best major player after Tiger/Phil generation just won't have a great legacy.

Same number of majors as Seve and Peter Thomson, not considered great players since they had limited PGA Tour starts.

Seve had the rep as he earned it via the Tour(s) and majors……Seve is probable the #1 reason for the European resurgence in the Ryder Cup and Euro presence on the American Tour (he and Faldo)….Peter Thompson…..different times but a great international player…..
Arnold Palmer is probably the guy who changed the criteria for becoming a great player by going to GB and winning The Open…..he “forced” other Americans to seriously consider crossing the pond and winning internationally….and THAT became a two-way street with Gary Player (most notably).

For joining LIV…it was a direct contractural violation in his agreement with the PGA Tour.

The Tour does not govern the Ryder Cup, the PGA of America makes those decisions. All the LIV golfers are still members of PGA America and will be through June 2024.
Therefore all PGA America members are eligible to be picked and if one was to qualify, Koepka is #2 on the points list after the 2nd at Augusta and this week's win, really not an argument to leave them off the team

I think he has the ideal situation for LIV. He needs a reduced schedule because of injuries and his pay doesn’t require he be competitive in LIV events. He can put all of his focus into Majors.

He would be an idiot to not pick Koepka but it's also important to note, as of today BK is #2 in Ryder Cup points based on his Masters and PGA performances. So ZJ, again as of today, doesn't have any decisions to make. BK is in.

They do. And the likely guys that will be on either Ryder Cup team have mostly come out and said as much.

Those guys who went “LIV” lost their standing with the PGA Tour…..by contract agreement. THEY (the players) were in violation by participating in events opposite The Tour w/o receiving special waivers to do so from The Tour. Right?
You understand wisest that the Harmons and the PGA have long been in a rather testy relationship with each other going back decades to Claude Sr.
I don’t know who’s tight or who’s wrong here but I know tge relationship could be much better than it is. All involved can be a little stubborn.

Team chemistry is important to Ryder cup success.
Brooks was never a popular guy on the tour. Now? Gotta wonder.
Captain Jack and co-captain Tiger might not want him in the room.

Easy on the waterworks, Dick Vermeil.
Ron Maly once told me that after Iowa beat UCLA in 1974, he walked into the Bruin locker room post game and he heard Dick Vermeil congratulating his Bruins on “losing to one of the 5 worst f%cking college football teams in America”…….
In his postgame with Vermeil Maly asked him if he could use that quote in the next days REGISTER…..Vermeil told Maly with a straight face, he “NEVER swears in front of his team”……so, No he couldn’t….Maly told me Vermeil proved that day he was “a phuquin’ liar” and he never ever believed much about Vermeil after that.

After shooting an 81 today ... we've all been there. :)

I was as entertained by Block last week as anyone, but then I saw this….

I mean, I appreciate confidence. But if anyone should know just how difficult it is to be one of the 80-90 guys who is settled in on tour, it’s him. If he really was just “Rory’s distance” away from being elite, then he would be Zach Johnson. But he isn’t; not even close. He was 62nd in the field at Oak Hill in driving distance, so it’s not like he’s getting completely bombed over.

He had an insane week where a lot went right, and now he’s learning the hard way that it isn’t what these guys do on their best days that get them their tour card. It’s what they do on their worst.

I am certainly not totally discounting what he is saying re: Rory’s length off the tee. It’s a tremendous advantage over most great players.
Short game is 80% confidence, 15% technique and 5% luck. Those TV players (men and women) are a cut above.

Not exactly. The guys on the PGA Tour are independent contractors. They don’t have contracts. The Tour banned them after the fact (but warned them they might be banned before the fact).

But the Ryder Cup has nothing to do with the PGA Tour anyway.

Most folks who have to deal with the PGA Tour don’t have good things to say, historically. But I still stand on my comment that Harmon is 100% right (this time).

One of my golfing buddies got fitted at Golf Galaxy in April, He is pleased with the job they did.
So I actually had a fitting scheduled at golf Galaxy today. But instead I had to keep the youngest home sick. So that sucks.

I shot a personal best 75 over the weekend (6200 yards, 71.1 slope). I was 1 over thru 15, then the wheels came off a bit. 15 pars, 3 bogies, zero birdies. Not bad for a 9 handicapper.
That is very very good! I have hit in the 70s twice in my life. Actually had a 73 last year. One random day went out a friend, I was just hitting it straight, hitting greens in regulation, no three putts, a few birdies on the easiest holes. Almost seemed too easy that day. Never been able to replicate that yet.

I've been in the high 70s roughly 10 times in my life, but usually when it happens I have 3-4 birdies to make up for a few bad holes. This was by far the most stress free round I've ever had. Golf is a much easier game when you're hitting fairways and greens in regulation!

Koepka's LIV deal runs through 2025, so he could be back on the PGA Tour at age 36.

Koepka will be eligible for for all the majors for at least 5 more years
Don't want him back.

**** LIV and **** those that joined.

Don't let the door hit ya.

I wouldn't let them play in the majors if it was up to me.
