*****Official HORT Golf General Discussion Thread*****

Wow. Sounds like the players were completely blind-sided by this. Jack Nicklaus (among others) has to be seething right now.

I shot a personal best 75 over the weekend (6200 yards, 71.1 slope). I was 1 over thru 15, then the wheels came off a bit. 15 pars, 3 bogies, zero birdies. Not bad for a 9 handicapper.

Shot a new personal best 74 yesterday. 3 birdies, 3 bogies, 1 double. I was 2 under thru 12, but then the pressure got to me and I made a couple mental errors. Still chasing that elusive scratch (or better) round.

Went for the first time of the season this morning, played 9 at Saddleback. Hit 6 of 9 greens in regulation, which is great! Three-putted three times, which is not great! Ended up with a 42, but was pretty pumped about my ball-striking. Tee ball was nice, but the “feel” stuff wasn’t. Not surprising given how little I play.

Degens unite! This should be a great week. US Open at a place the USGA has been trying to get for years: LACC

Core: Hovland, Brooks, X, Rose

Fade: Rory, Scheffler

Longshot: Cole, Woodland

Don’t know what to do because no matter what I do they will screw me like Syracuse in the NCAA: Rahm, Cantlay

Give me your favorite core, fade, or long shot.

This clip from Billy Ho sums up the current status of my golf game, and like Billy Ho, I too believe I am right on the edge of playing great.

Saturday started off solid and was 2 over through 6 (for a 13 hcp that's a good run). Then the wheels started to fall off, triple on 7, triple on 8, triple on 9. Making the turn I am demoralized, pissed, and just plain tired. Hole 10, another triple, hole 11 BIRDIE! I'm back baby! Oh no you're not. Ended 47-51-98. Freaking 98! At least it wasn't over 100. Mind you this entire round I am striking the ball well. Had quite a few bad breaks and bounces that I just could not recover from. Like, how the F do you lose a ball that is striped right down the middle of the fairway? Yeah, that happened.

Sunday head out with zero expectations. Again, striking the ball well. Keeping it in the fairway or first cut off the tee. Short game is better. Post a 44-43-87, and I had at least 4-5 putts that had a chance to fall but just didn't. Like Billy Ho I feel like I'm right on the edge of being able to break 80, or shoot 100, depends on the day.

Also, ended up getting a good deal on a pair of Puma Fusion Pro golf shoes. Spikeless, but I'll give them a shot. Still on the lookout for another pair of softspike shoes.

Two par THREES over 280 yards. What the hell.

I could easily see it come down to Brooks and Rahm again. My gut feeling is that a bunch of foreign players are going to litter the top 25-30 (Niemann, Pereira, one or more of the many Kims) so I’ll probably just pick a few plus money guys to hit top 30 or 40.

If the tournament is in California you got to have Max Homa on your short list to win it. Seems he wins everything in California.
Unfortunately when I think of California I think of that LIV prick Phil Mickelson.

You never know, he still has some game left in him as shown at the Masters.

Did I mention he's a LIV prick?

I have a golf simulator and the week of the majors some friends and I play the course from the tips and the winner gets the traveling trophy. It's a long course, but very playable. Not much trouble and only 1 area that was out of bounds and of course I found it. The only difference is we didn't have to deal with the roughs that they will have to play in this week.

Going to play TCI tomorrow, Played there about 4-5 years ago, Nice Arnold Palmer designed course.
For you golf club junkies like me I bought a Taylormade burnr mini driver this spring, Really like it, I struggle off the tee at times and the mini has been great, not quite as long as my normal driver but pretty darn close and has really helped with accuracy.

Great course, just make sure you play the appropriate tee box! My friends insisted on playing the tips last year and it turned into a very long, grueling day. My last 2 rounds there...

King Tees: 93 (7000+ yards)
Master Tees: 88 (6600 yards)

I am 66 and will likely play the Palmer tee’s, The guys I am going with are both in their mid 40’s and will likely play the Master tees. My average drives are 220/225 a bit more if I “catch” one.
Agree the course is very nice, Some excellent scenery, Saw quite a few deer when we played there previously.

Love that course except the final 2 holes. Dumb uninspiring holes after 16 solid holes.

Homa is a hard one to gauge, As you said he hasn’t been hot but the guy usually plays very well in Cali.

I’m really tempted to take Thomas and get leverage on the field. Thomas talent at that price is rare. Just don’t know if I can pull the trigger.
