Need some recommendations on a new pair of golf shoes. Currently wear Skechers Torque Sport but have developed a touch of plantar fasciitis. Just flared up when golf season began and I started walking the course a lot. While these shoes are comfortable I don't think they give me enough arch support.

A few things, no Addidas, for some reason anything Addidas feels like it has a hump in the middle of the shoe and causes massive foot pain for me. I have already ordered and sent back a pair of Footjoy Sneaker Golf Shoes. Felt decent but they seemed to run big and the all-leather will get extremely hot in the summer heat. I have also returned a pair of Puma Ignite Pwradapt. Could barely get the shoe on. Puma is one of those sock style shoes, they call it Adaptive Fit. There is no tongue to the shoe and you have to cram your foot into it. I'm not fighting my shoes before every round.

I am looking for a good pair of spiked walking shoes. Something like a running shoe that is lightweight and breathable but also spiked. Seems to be quite a few spikeless options like this but am looking for spiked. Also need to have laces. None of that Boa stuff.

Ecco.

Anyone ever read the book Every Shot Counts by Mark Broadie?

It's regarding strokes gained.

Thoughts?

Thinking about making the purchase.

I have a pair of Ecco hydro retro golf shoes, These are spikeless, Very comfortable shoes, That said I don’t have any issues with my feet so I don’t know how they would work for someone having foot pain issues.

For those that play spikeless, what are they like in wet conditions? Rain, dew, etc.

Also, why do you prefer them over shoes with spikes?

“Spineless” are fine. The big difference “spineless” makes are in wear and teat of putting greens. Spikeless are much more “green friendly” and course superintendents love them.
True, the vast majority of tour pros use “spikes” on their shoes, but these guys are probably changing spikes almost daily. The difference of greens between spikeless and spiked shoes is almost night and day.

I don't think the vast majority of pros wear metal spikes any more, though quite a few still do. The linked article, from Golf Magazine a couple of years ago, indicates that in a given PGA event 15% to 20% of the players are wearing metal.

Depends on the shoe. I've found Footjoy, Ecco and Adidas to be fine in damp conditions (dewy mornings) but Puma stink for traction. For rain it's more about being waterproof (not just resistant) than it is about spikes or spikeless for me. Spiked shoes offer a marginally better grip, I think, but are generally not as comfortable and I always feel like I'm standing on top of something.

I wear both consistently - about 75% spikeless and 25% spiked.

My son shot a course record 61 last year wearing Hey Dudes.

Ever since then I've thought about him trying spikeless.

And no, I'm not making this up. :)

I have never worn spikeless so this is a big question I have. There are so many more spikeless options out there that maybe I need to shift my thought process here and start looking at that option.

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

I'll wear spikeless for casual rounds when the course is DRY. I never wear them if my score matters or if there is any water on the grass.

I haven’t had any issues with spikeless shoes in regard to traction, Then again I am in my mid 60’s and really don’t try to hit bombs anymore 😞. Overall I just think they are more comfortable and plus I can just put them on at home drive to the course. I haven’t worn spikes in at least the last 6-7 years.

I'm surprised at the number of people in here who are still wearing metal spikes; most courses I play banned them a long time ago. I've worn spikeless for at least 20 years & probably more like 30 or so. Even when I was playing a lot, at a very high level (very low single digit handicap index), I never had issues or concerns with traction - and I swung hard & hit it fairly long from my mid-20s to early-mid 40s.
I'm surprised you're even able to find metal spike shoes anywhere - other than on tour, I haven't seen anyone wear them in years.

I assume they're referring to softspikes like Pulsar, not metal.

Softspikes. I don't know a single course that allows metal spikes and I wouldn't even know where to buy them if I wanted to.

I play mainly morning golf and still swing pretty fast. I would be concerned for a lot of slipping without softspikes.

Golfing tomorrow am and getting iron fitted in the late afternoon.

Someone tell me if this is a good or bad idea

Have some separation of a couple of hours so you are not tired. Stay away from the beer/booze on the back 9. Ideally I would not recommend as a fitter.

Kinda of trying to squeeze it in before the end of the school year. If I wait till next week the wife (teacher) will be home with the kids and I may catch some flack.

Stupid sick kid on Tuesday.

I've been wearing spikeless for years and will never go back. Like Riley I recommend Eccos.

Are you going to Ken Schall or Dick’s/Golf Galaxy/Scheels?

Decided to cancel tomorrow at golf Galaxy. Had to stop at a pet store for new stuff for the 2nd dog the wife and kids convinced me to adopt. Apparently the new austads is next door. Stopped in to peruse and was pretty impressed by the pro. Have a fitting with him Monday now.

Smart on the cancel. If you are getting a full bag fitting you will be there for a couple of hours. If it was at Scheels or Dick's it would most likely be for 30 minutes by a 19 year old making $14.00 an hour not knowing what is going on.

I like Hovland but I was 100% rooting for the other dude.

You have to root for the first PGA win type of player.

Nerves got to him obviously.

I’m sorry, but laying up a par 4, with your first win in the balance is like playing for overtime on the road after scoring 14 straight with a trip to the Rose Bowl on the line.

Dude his ball was BURIED.

He tries to advance that ball with a lower lofted iron and it goes nowhere.

And the way he putts? It was the smarter option IMO.

I think he could’ve gotten a solid 7-iron on it and run it up the fairway, leaving a decent angle to hit some sort of low pitch shot that could release the hole.

And that’s why I post on HORTGORTIA, and he’s slumming it on Tour.

Gonna need a ruling here. Get Slugger White.
