Yeah. No memorable holes at all in Florida.

I'm in on this thread. My last round was November 10, 2022, 9 holes after work that I finished in the pitch dark and 40 degree windy weather. Looking at the foot or so of snow currently on the ground with a foot more on the way, I am jonesing pretty hard. Usually play 4-5 times a week during the spring/summer/fall.

I'll be back to talk equipment later.

Haven’t played since October, A friend and I reserved a simulator at Golf Galaxy in West Des Moines Saturday afternoon, Looking forward to swinging the clubs and seeing how much club head speed Old age has cost me after another Iowa winter.

I'm in the process of putting one in the basement. Planning on going with the eyexo.
What setup you have?
I went with Skytrak for now and have been pretty happy with it, but eyexo would be much better. More expensive, but you get so many more options. I'd recommend a 4k projector (regret not getting one) and a PC that is strong enough to run it. I bought the Fiberbuilt 4x7 hitting mat. It's heavy, so it doesn't move around at all. I'd also recommend a Roxor control box which makes everything much easier. I went with TGC19 for the software and have been happy with it, but a lot of people are going with GSPRO recently. Any questions let me know, I'd be happy to help out.

Need to get fitted for some new irons. And lessons. Mainly lessons.
Make sure you get cavity backs. First thing you need to do is see if you hit hybrids better than regular irons. That could be a good jump starter for you if you get a full set of those.

Close. Second best, but it's right there.

The "watch golf all day starting at midnight" is delightful.
Conditions always a factor, demands a totally different style of golf from all the others. You can play the courses, and it's by far the most reasonably priced and accessible ticket if you can get there.

Love it.

I’m looking into some new irons, playing some R7s or 9s that are several years old. I want to go and get fitted, as I’m sure I need an inch added to my irons, but I’d like to be sure on that before I drop a grand on new irons.

I messed up my left wrist and found out I have a piece of broken bone and lots of damage from a break years ago. It hurt a lot last year and have limited mobility.

One day at PGA Superstore recently I hit some used old man hybrid irons with lighter-weight regular flex graphite shafts. They already had some thicker grips. I must’ve hit 75 shots in 30 min with no warm up and the next day I felt great. No pain, no soreness. I hope they are as good on the course as they were in the Trackman bay. I don’t give a crap about comments or wisecracks - if they feel good and make this game a little easier I’m sold.

No doubt. My next set will be the Cleveland Launcher Halo set.

Cool, i like those. Mine are the Wilson Launch Pads. Got a used set (7-GW) for $250.

I read all these forums and new golfers are buying blades, I’m wondering why?

Definitely planning on "super game improvement" irons. Distance is not a problem. Accuracy and consistent ball striking is. I've always just had cheaper "complete" sets that I've supplemented. The hybrid on my first set was graphite shaft and I hit that better than the iron shaft hybrid in my bag currently. But honestly hit the 5 iron (highest in my bag) better than either.

Because they think they’re better players than they are. If someone is in the 0.5% that can hit them, great. But the vast majority of players who insist on using them are sacrificing distance and accuracy for the sake of their pride.

Golf ball price increases are pissing me off. Played Cut Grey balls last season. Three-piece urethane cover ball for $20 per dozen. That's the cheapest you'll find in a 3-piece urethane cover ball by a wide margin. Price increased to $25/dozen just the other day.

I'm always on the hunt for the best value ball I can find. The hunt starts again. That $25 price point brings the Vice Pro Zero into play as well as a whole slew of balls in that $30 price point. The ball selector tool at the Vice website slots me into the Pro Zero ball nicely, so that's on the list to tryout this year. Also need to tryout the Maxfli Pro. I've heard lots of good things about that ball and if you buy in bulk (4 dozen for $120) can get them for $30/dozen. Lots of sales on all types of balls during Masters week and Father's Day, so a good opportunity to stock up.

I generally played 3 types of balls last season. Cut Grey was my "good" ball. Wilson Staff 50 Elite was my "next" golf ball. Option 3 was whatever I found on the course, and I probably found well in excess of 200 balls on course last year.

I planned on playing Cut Grey as my "good" ball, Wilson Zip as my "next" ball, and then tinker with balls I find on course this season but that has all changed.

As for the Wilson Zip. In September I found like 3 or 4 of them one round. Must have been playing behind a bad Zip player. Anyways, wow, I really liked that ball. Worked just as well as the Wilson Staff 50 Elite, which is the most underrated cheap ball you can find out there. The Zip is also cheap as hell, which is a bonus.

Keep in mind, I play 4-5 days a week on a course that eats golf balls. There is water, woods, brush, hazards, or OB on every single hole on the course. Not about to drop $55 on ProV1s just to donate them. Actually, I could probably play ProV1s exclusively since I find them all the time and currently have about 3 dozen of them on the shelf.

Look at the new TaylorMade Stealth HD irons or the Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal HL. Both are in the game improvement to super game improvement category. I like these better as they actually put some spin on the ball and are higher launch. The past few years have been super low spinning irons with jacked up lofts so you can hit them farther. These dialed that back.

I second the Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal. I currently play JPX 850 Forged but have heard a ton of good things about the recent offerings from Mizuno. If you are player looking for a little help in your irons the JPX Hot Metal and the new MP 225 are two you should look into from Mizuno. If you don't want to do a total investment look at buying a used set of prior year Hot Metals from a place like 2nd Swing Golf.

JPX 919 Hot Metal

Also have heard good things about the Srixon ZX Series. ZX4 are SGI and ZX5 are the GI version.

The lofts have gotten silly. The current 9 iron lofts are only about 1-2 degrees weaker than my current 7 iron. And my clubs aren't that old.

Just looked. My 7 iron is 34. The stock specs on Callaway rouge ST max 9 iron is 36.5.

Exactly. The number on the sole is irrelevant. It is effective loft, launch angle and spin rates.

Shameless plug for this site.

I work for them and if you have any club questions I have some knowledge. Depending on your age and when you were in Iowa City I may have sold you equipment at the golf shop by Best Buy when it was on the south side of Iowa City.

So a couple of weeks ago I got a notification from PXG announcing their new golf ball was "available" for order. Now, I assumed "available" meant the had a pick-up load of golf balls ready to ship, so I ordered me a few dozen, avoiding shipping charges. Two weeks plus later, no golf balls and no notification of order status. So I called and enquired......I was pleasant...as was the PXG rep...a civil conversation.
The gal advised me that YES my order has been processed and approved, BUT "due to high volume of orders" my order cannot be shipped for a "few more days"......I told her I was a little miffed and felt like I was lied to by the e-mail/PXG, as the e-mail told me the golf ball was "ready to ship"....The gal apologized and I got to use one of my favorite customer service lines....I told the lady to please relay to her supervisor that I could certainly not complain about PXG and their customer service, as "it doesn't exist".....
Today I received an e-mail from the customer rep, once again apologizing for the delay in my shipment....and if I wanted I could order a "PXG accessory" as a token of their appreciation for my order.......Now, hmmmm......do I want a pair of sox or a hat? (Actually I want my golf balls!)
It is frustrating dealing with these folks....not the first "delay" in shipping" I have experienced with them.....I just wish folks would deliver as promised. Isn't is better to over perform than under perform? I would think so....

Have 'em ship you some of those naked lady tees, funnier than handing out tampons anyway...

I play Mizuno MP53's with steel KBS 90 shafts, and Srixon ZX7 irons with graphite shafts. The Srixon irons are better in the wind or cold.

I ordered on release day as well, I only bought a dozen because I already have a few dozen balls and I was just wanting to give the PXG balls a try, I guess I will patiently wait unless it’s late Spring and I still haven’t received them.

I didn’t need them at all but wanted to try them. I have a friend that is a club pro who sold me his last 6 dozen 2022 ProV1X at $38 dozen shipped so I am set for awhile.

To be fair to PXG, all the PXG Bros bought the crap out of those balls. The company got slammed with more orders than they can handle.

My take on the PXG ball, they've had good reviews but for that price point there are many other options. I'd play Snell or Vice or Maxfli. Now at $25 a dozen they might have me shouting Kaboom! off the tee.

I have played Snell MTB blacks for several years, Got Email today that they are launching updated MTB black and MTB X in April, Will definitely give the new Blacks a try.
