Home course has water on 14 holes. It’s only about 5 miles from the coast so usually windy. I lose probably 100/yr and find about the same (give those to my kids). Some of you guys must play some pasture-like courses with the little amount of balls you lose. The kind where you can go one fairway over and find your ball and it is playable.
My home course has water, woods, nature areas (swamp), tall grass, or OB on every single hole. You stray a few yards off the fairway and your ball is gone. Only two holes have no sand and that is only because there is no room for sand as the green is surrounded by natural areas. Don't stick the green and your ball is gone. It is a very nice course, and fun, but this course eats golf balls. The course hosts a Dakota Tour event each year and those pros can post 10 under par but for your average mid-handicapper the course is a challenge.
So yeah, I don't buy $55 ProV1s as I donate 1-3 balls per round. Playing 4-5 days a week that adds up.
Doesn’t she want to know where the shot goes?!
I'd guess she has people for that. Heck, I'd volunteer to keep track of her shots.Doesn’t she want to know where the shot goes?!
This has been the plan for some time. I think they are doing better than you realize.Looks like Wakonda Club is going to do some MAJOR upgrades and reconstruction this year.....As soon as The Principal Classic leaves town, they are closing 9 holes to start tree removal (300 oaks), and then in July they are closing the whole dog down for the season.....New tee boxes, tree removal, new irrigation system among things listed to be done......That's a lot of stuff to be done.......and for a club that has been bleeding members for several years.....It's a great golf course.....old school for sure.....wonderful greens, great elevation transitions....
I have heard rumors about some changes coming but read about them today in the Register. That's a lot of members with no where to play golf for 3-4 months......Im sure there have been arrangements made with alternative courses for their members....
The tree removal was brought about be a member death from a falling tree limb a few years ago.....I am sure that was an expensive proposition for the club....the irrigation system and new tee boxes have a lot to do with the club's age...I will be curious to see what the place plays like next year....This has been the plan for some time. I think they are doing better than you realize.
My guess is the Senior PGA is helping with some of the renovation as well. They paid for refurbishing the bunkers there several years ago. Very good old course.
Yeah the cable car is long gone.Dang it! Beat me to it.
Hey, does the trolley that takes you up to the 14th still exist? Prolly be gone long time!
I'm sure some have left which for many clubs is a good thing as they can attract a younger clientele that is open to change and improvements. I believe their membership is way up over the past couple of years and if they are like a lot of clubs they have been raising initiation fees and/or dues. The tree removal was brought about be a member death from a falling tree limb a few years ago.....I am sure that was an expensive proposition for the club....the irrigation system and new tee boxes have a lot to do with the club's age...I will be curious to see what the place plays like next year....
"doing better" is a relative here.....the "old money" will always be there.....but I know first hand a lot of guys in my age range have left because of costs, value and outside interests....and some of these guys have "old money family names".......
They possess one of the most valuable $$$ pieces of real estate in Polk County.........that doesn't hurt.I'm sure some have left which for many clubs is a good thing as they can attract a younger clientele that is open to change and improvements. They wouldn't be able to take on a project of this magnitude if they weren't doing pretty well financially.
It's certainly valuable but it's still the south side near the airport. They possess one of the most valuable $$$ pieces of real estate in Polk County.........that doesn't hurt.
Easy in and out to downtown and interstates.......tremendous property for development....Fleur Drive is "southside" by location.....move a few blocks east of the property to start seeing the "southside" by reputation.....I know what your saying but the Fleur Drive "southside" (west side of Fleur Drive) is really very nice.....It's certainly valuable but it's still the south side near the airport.
We will simply have to disagree. It's old and has limited development possibilities. Nowhere near the west or northern areas of the metro area. Just look where all the growth is.Easy in and out to downtown and interstates.......tremendous property for development....Fleur Drive is "southside" by location.....move a few blocks east of the property to start seeing the "southside" by reputation.....I know what your saying but the Fleur Drive "southside" (west side of Fleur Drive) is really very nice.....
It's a good question. You're buying cheap balls to save money but then buying tees? That doesn't make sense to me.Bought some balls and tees at Walmart tonight. Got a funny look from the cashier. Wife (no pic) asks why I am buying tees. Because I need them.
We just had 7 inches of snow.
So today, my problems have been resolved by a sweetheart working in PXG's customer relations.......I received a notice last night that my golf balls have been shipped and I should receive them Monday....then my customer relations gal e-mailed me and advised she was sending me a PXG straw hat for my "troubles and inconvenience"...... I always knew being a HROT member had its perks! Even Bob Parsons fears the wrath of HROTers! So a couple of weeks ago I got a notification from PXG announcing their new golf ball was "available" for order. Now, I assumed "available" meant the had a pick-up load of golf balls ready to ship, so I ordered me a few dozen, avoiding shipping charges. Two weeks plus later, no golf balls and no notification of order status. So I called and enquired......I was pleasant...as was the PXG rep...a civil conversation.
The gal advised me that YES my order has been processed and approved, BUT "due to high volume of orders" my order cannot be shipped for a "few more days"......I told her I was a little miffed and felt like I was lied to by the e-mail/PXG, as the e-mail told me the golf ball was "ready to ship"....The gal apologized and I got to use one of my favorite customer service lines....I told the lady to please relay to her supervisor that I could certainly not complain about PXG and their customer service, as "it doesn't exist".....
Today I received an e-mail from the customer rep, once again apologizing for the delay in my shipment....and if I wanted I could order a "PXG accessory" as a token of their appreciation for my order.......Now, hmmmm......do I want a pair of sox or a hat? (Actually I want my golf balls!)
It is frustrating dealing with these folks....not the first "delay" in shipping" I have experienced with them.....I just wish folks would deliver as promised. Isn't is better to over perform than under perform? I would think so....
So their customer service response is to get you to advertise for them. Pretty smart! (The hat is not cheap either....nothing from PXG is.....probably a $75 ticket....on a $160 order......but I do appreciate this gals hussle in resolving my issue.....I guess because my checks clear!)
Boyz....never undervalue the power of a "HROT membership".........you could say, "Don't leave home without it!"
Yep...and I get the most important item I need to play summertime golf.....a broad brim UV rated straw hat....for N/C!So their customer service response is to get you to advertise for them. Pretty smart!
As I stated earlier in the thread I canceled my order a few days ago. I noticed last night I had not got my refund and planned on calling today to see how much longer it was going to be. I was going through my emails this morning and received notification saying the balls shipped. I watched some "youtube" stuff about these balls yesterday....One reviewer (a Brit who "live tests" equipment) basically panned the new ball....and some guys who work out of a store front range with an "iron Byron" ran tests on the ball and were very complimentary about the numbers it produced.....As I stated earlier in the thread I canceled my order a few days ago. I don't know...but might have been....just checked...Yes, Shiels did NOT like the ball but he thinks the sun rises and sets around the Titleist premiums...unabashedly.Rick Shiels?
"Mr. Short Game Golf" really liked the ball's numbers, I believe....I don't know...but might have been....just checked...Yes, Shiels did NOT like the ball but he thinks the sun rises and sets around the Titleist premiums...unabashedly.

It's only $50 on their website. Stylish.Yep...and I get the most important item I need to play summertime golf.....a broad brim UV rated straw hat....for N/C!
Bob Parsons ain't a multimillionaire because he's a fool. And yes...I was pretty smart, too. Thanks for noticing.
I couldn't wear a visor...I'd burn a hole in my head! Jeeeeeebus......I got really bad skin....full of "pre-cancers"...there is a reason why I see my dermatologist every 8 weeks....and why I have two med charts! It's only $50 on their website. Stylish.
TMI man.I couldn't wear a visor...I'd burn a hole in my head! Jeeeeeebus......I got really bad skin....full of "pre-cancers"...there is a reason why I see my dermatologist every 8 weeks....and why I have two med charts!
That is what my dermatologist suggested once! Im lucky, it could be worst but my skin (head and arms) is a mess! Just been lucky w/ no melanomas to date...Im pretty diligent in the sun...TMI man.
Might want to wear one of these then.
Its a good "Zach" golf course...I dont know how he putted today but Thursday I watched him him 3-4 of the ugliest putts imaginable....and make one really nice 12 footer for a birdie....But the 3-4 I saw him miss were pretty simple, short putts (a couple for birdies and one for a par) that he badly missed to the right...as soon as he hit them.Zach and Luke being paired at Honda was no surprise. Future Ryder Cup captains squaring up....Zach more than held his own.
If his putter gets hot he might be in the hunt on the weekend. His last top ten finish? Honda.
These are mine. Like them a lot. Need a new driver this year. Probably the ping 425 from last year. Hit my sons and his is the SST one which I hooked more often than not but love their 5 and 7 so gonna go with the max this year I think.Look at the new TaylorMade Stealth HD irons or the Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal HL. Both are in the game improvement to super game improvement category. I like these better as they actually put some spin on the ball and are higher launch. The past few years have been super low spinning irons with jacked up lofts so you can hit them farther. These dialed that back.
Is there anything more frustrating than piping a drive right down the middle of the fairway then chunking, shanking, duffing your second shot from 125 yards?
This happens to me all the time. I couldn’t drop a ball in the fairway better than some of my drives but then choke on the approach shot and end up with bogey or worse. @&$&%#!!
What’s your biggest weak spot?
