*****Official HORT Golf General Discussion Thread*****

Spent the weekend at Innisbrook, which hosts one of the Florida PGA tour stops (Valspar Open). Very, very nice resort with some great tracks. They have 63 holes (was 72 but a couple of years ago they closed down one 9 & they're getting ready to develop it - not sure if it will be full-time residences or condos for use by visitors). They only use one course, Copperhead, for the tour event. It's the toughest of their courses, but in the times I've played there through the years I've always really thought the Island course is a better all-around course.
Tough course, unforgiving & much different than the courses I've grown accustomed to playing. Virtually every green is elevated from where you're hitting your approach shot, so shots in play anywhere from a half to two clubs longer. When you don't play those type of courses often, it's tough to make yourself commit to the shot...just tough to make yourself hit your "160 yard" iron when you're only 140 from the stick.

I used to date a girl (no pic) who lives in Palm Harbor, about a mile from Innisbrook. I got to play the Copperhead course once. It was definitely one of the best courses I've played, and IMO, a better overall course than TPC Sawgrass.

I've played all of the courses at Innisbrook quite a few times, but not in the last 20 or so years. Played Sawgrass a couple of times. I'd agree Innisbrook (particularly Copperhead) is better.

I'm excited. I ordered a new Cobra LDTx Max. I took up golf again in November and have been hitting a 10 year old McGregor. I hit it straight but not very long mainly because of swing speed.

I'm hoping the Cobra will give me a few more yards and forgiving enough to help me increase my swing speed.

Now if I can get someone to talk to my wife about the new putter, wedges and the golf bag I want. 🤣

I don't understand. Does your wife want to keep you around the house, or would she like a break from you?

Do you need a new putter or viagra?

I played golf last week for the first time in 3 years. It was extremely hot out.

I hit a chip shot from 60+ feet that rolled 20 feet, hit the pin and went right in the hole. It was amazing.

Too bad Sports Center wasn't filming.

CSB.

Has anyone looked at the field for the JDC?? There are some pretty good players in the field list so far:

Cantlay
Straka
Day
Cole
Dahmen
Spieth
Thorbjornsen
Mitchell
McCarthy

Pretty good by JDC standards.

I think JDC started chartering a flight to the UK for Scottish and /or Open Championship which leaves Sunday night. I think I heard that helped improve the field.

Nicolai Hoojgard was slated to play too, he must’ve withdrawn from it recently.

That charter flight has helped a lot. That, and being the cradle of major champions.

Hawkeyerugged….grfeenway…..anyone else with knowledge……Looking at clubs (always) and saw Wilson DynaPower….sure felt good. Liked the looks, too. Any feedback? YouTube has some info on them but that’s hard to separate fact from fiction. I like the wider sole plate (remindfull of the old X-31) and the “holes” behind the face seem p[lausible….My problem is being left-handed and finding some to hit/play with……I think I got a line on a set to try, ill know more in a few days…..
Funny, growing up EVERYONE used Wilson Staffs, Hogan Apex, Spaulding Executives, Golfcraft or Mac Gregor’s…..but that was 50 years ago……pings, Titleist, and now Mizuno, Calloway and all the usual suspects. I have heard Wilson is pretty big in Europe……

Back in the early 80’s I had a set of Wilson Staff fluid feel irons, To this day the best set of irons I have ever owned. My best friend back then played a set of McGregor Muirfield irons, They were top notch as well.

Bottom line as far as today, It sounds like Wilson is making a nice comeback in regard to quality equipment at a decent price. A friend of mine is playing the Dynapower Carbon driver and it’s a nice looking club that he has no problem keeping up with the other guys who are playing the big name brand drivers. (The guys I play with regularly are all in their mid 40’s, I am the old guy).

The Zach Johnson Foundation event is going on today (or maybe it was yesterday?) At any rate, fascinating that Justin Thomas isn’t participating. I’m sure him playing in it the last two years had NOTHING to do with kissing the captain’s ass. Nope. No chance.

Also, and @St. Louis Hawk will appreciate this…Colt Knost is playing in it. I was half tempted to go, follow him around all day, and wait for him to have a lie where the ball was 3” below his feet and yell, “NOW STAND ON YOUR COUCH!!!” in the middle of his backswing. I then would’ve left on my own volition, feeling very satisfied with myself.

Volunteered at ZJC on Monday and was on the 7th fairway spotting balls.

Colt and his group come up and they were just hammered, they had a few bottles of booze nearly finished. Colt came up to me and asked if I wanted some. Probably could have had a swig but declined. Anyway he asks me what kind of shot I wanted to see. Told him a a high fade, and he goes to hook it hard and it literally went just 130 yards. On of the guys in his group just chimes in and says “Dottie here, that was a great lie but just a terrible shot”, everyone got a good laugh.

Ryan Palmer and team won.

I was told the crowd was really small at this years event. Care to comment?

Golfing at Oakland Acres and Grinnell College Golf Course this weekend - anyone play either? Opinions?

Oakland Acres is pretty wide open, Last time I played there (Roughly 5 years ago) the grass on the greens was pretty long and putted very slow. Pretty popular course for Seniors. Never played the Grinnell College course.
