*****Official Hurricane Dorian thread*****

Windy.com is currently forecasting a direct strike at Boca Raton, Florida... then it curves through the sparsely-populated areas between Orlando and Tampa making a direct hit on Gainesville, and then passing Jacksonville to the west and wreaking havoc from Savannah to Virginia Beach!

My parents are just outside Wilmington, NC. Hurricane Michael certainly left a mark on the area.

I have some family in Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach, but this won't be their first rodeo.

Anyone have eyes on the Tallahassee gas Station threads in the Locker room? My wife still wants to go up for the game but I think it's crazy. I'm cheap so I can't read those threads.
We decided not to go because trying to get home is going to be a cluster. And who knows if we can find gas the further south we get. I am happy with the refund and will be up on September 7.

That's what I am worried about. Even if I fill up in Tally I might be able to get home on a tank but then could be left with an empty tank for a week or more.

Not in that forum anymore, but I’ve heard scattered reports of some running out last night, but I don’t think it is horrible right now.

How I picture Trad when it hits:

No. You're the poster who was accused of asking RealtorNole (some relation to Dot Com) for nude pictures. I know you didn't but the horse was out of the barn by that time.
Ah yes. I do remember getting a slap on the wrist for that. Had no idea there was a relation there. Makes more sense now. It's too bad because even though it had slowed WAY down of late, I still enjoyed my time there.

As an amateur hurricane tracking nerd the last 20 years or so, I can say I don't think I have ever seen such uncertainty for a major Hurricane that could be making landfall in 2-3 days. The Sunday 8AM tropical force winds line goes from south Cuba to South Florida to just offshore central and north peninsula to well offshore southeast of North Carolina. It's a problem because about 15 million people are under that 8PM Sunday to Monday AM line. You can't evacuate them all...but normally by now you would be getting people to leave the coast where it is projecting to hit in a smaller predicted swath...

Small pet peeve - CNN anchor says Dorian is "barreling towards Florida". It appears the storm is moving around 10-12 miles an hour which appears to be at the low end of average. A definition of barreling is "drive or move in a way that is so fast as to almost be out of control."
It is a huge deal so exaggeration is not necessary.

It's marketing,... they're selling a product ... "Dorian is meandering towards Florida" doesn't put the customers on the edges of their seats....

Try telling that to all of the turtles who'll potentially be impacted by the storm.

So much this. There was no reason to cancel the Jacksonville game. Everyone would have been out of town long before the weather would have gotten snotty.

The forecasters are doing a terrible job with this. I wouldn't be surprised if it stays off the coast of Florida and heads to the Carolinas at this point.

MSNBC has Mariana Atenscio warming up to stagger through hurricane force winds already.

The 5 pm update shows the forecast track sliding east again.

If this ends up being a fish storm the forecasters will have egg all over their faces.

And yet, we're making expensive and disruptive decisions on climate change policy based on "models."

Am I the only one disturbed by this?
I’m not. It is the best science we have for determining these things and 98 times out of 100 they are pretty much in the ballpark.
