I’m scheduled to be at Ocracoke Is. a week from Monday. Ocracoke is on the south most end of the outer banks. Hoping it just goes out to sea and stays there.

Know the difference between a Southern divorce and a hurricane?

Not much, either way somebody is going to lose a double wide...

Now 175 mph pressure dropping. Good grief.

Been a total of 35 Cat 5s in Atlantic since 1924. 5 have them have been last four years.

Sure hope that turn happens. A lot of people took their guard down based on model data yesterday. Been reading the models struggle with monsters because they can make their own environment

Curoius question.

In typical hurricane - how long would it be "not advised" to go outside? Are you having to convince your dogs to pee int he garage?

That totally depends on how fast the storm is moving. Typically, the really bad weather lasts for about 12 hours. At first, you get squalls and it's easy to dodge those for potty time. But at some point you start getting consistently strong winds and rain, and you don't want to be outside for that.

If you get the eye, you'll have some time for the dogs to do their business, depending on the size of the eye, the forward speed of the storm, and whether you get the middle of the eye or just a slice of it.

After the eye the storm winds come from the other direction and it's immediately life-threatening and gradually gets better over the course of many hours.

Then it's time to start working on all the vegetative storm debris.

Being inside the eye is incredibly eerie.

Try going inside the eye inside an airplane, truly incredible. I got the chance with the 54th weather squadron, flying C-130s stationed on Guam. A fairly large typhoon in the southern pacific and you go from daylight into complete darkness in the blink of an eye.
