No way was he out at home.
Video review?! Outstanding!

What is college mercy rule? Up 10 after 7?

MSU has rallied!
And the Gophers put a huge hit on Rutgers’ RPI tonight. -41 points and a drop of 6 in rankings for Rutgers. At-large chances diminish further.
Sparty up 7-4 may just as well beat Indiana! Rutgers down to RPI 56, that's no mans land there. All in all, not a bad RPI night by giving away only 1 spot and depending on a few late games here might jump back up to where we were!
Well, just I typed this back to #30!
C'mon Sparty and TX Tech!

Nice win for Michigan State. You should have demanded that Texas Tech win. =)

Northwestern is as bad as advertised (check out the horrible throw to home)

After 1/2 inning, Iowa leads 2-0.

Speaking of rallying with 2 outs:

Wish the start time today was moved up. Rain right at game time (40%)
Go Hawks!

If I’m looking at this correctly I believe Minnesota can still get into the conference tournament by sweeping Rutgers. They need Purdue to lose 1 more and for MSU to lose its final 2 games against Indiana. If I’m looking at the 2nd tiebreaker correctly I think Minnesota actually holds that advantage with the common opponents.

This is good for Big Ten baseball having so much on the line going into the final weekend.

Observation from yesterday’s game. Once Iowa got up big, NW’s coach started to substitute liberally. As if trying to get some players some playing time by end of season.

It wasn’t “we’re not going to try” but it was certainly not “we’re going to fight this until the very last out.”

If Iowa can jump on NW’s pitching early again these next couple of days, I really like how this could play out.

Given Heller’s podcast comments about concerns with pitching on Tuesday, it’s phenomenal that Morgan didn’t have to go deep into the game. He should be at full strength on Tuesday if Iowa draws a Tuesday game.

I just noticed Morgan only threw 68 pitches and they didn’t have to use their top bullpen pitchers. That’s huge, hopefully the can get todays game in without having to burn through extra pitchers with rain delays.

We both just made the same point. You couldn’t have asked for a better scenario from a pitcher usage standpoint. If Morgan has to pitch Tuesday he should be completely rested.

Not sure I want any part of Nebraska in BTT with a sea of red supporters.

I just noticed Morgan only threw 68 pitches and they didn’t have to use their top bullpen pitchers.

Some more good numbers. If you recall, Morgan didn't retire a single MSU hitter last weekend while pitching from the wind-up and switched to pitching from the stretch with no runners on base to start the 5th and 6th innings. He gave up 3 walks and a HBP from the wind-up against MSU.

With the caveat that MSU is a more disciplined and better hitting team than Northwestern, Morgan's numbers yesterday:

From the wind-up,
Northwestern was 2-8 with 2 walks and 4 Ks.
From the stretch,
Northwestern was 1-6 with 1 walk and 1 K.

In the first three innings, Morgan got ahead of Northwestern's lead off hitter with a 1-2 count (K, single, K). In the fourth inning, the Northwestern lead off hitter grounded out on a 1-1 count. Working ahead and getting the lead off hitter out in 3 of 4 innings (in the other inning the runner was thrown out trying to advance on a ball that squirted away from Moss) usually leads to positive results.

After his lousy outing against Maryland, he's had good outings in 6 of his last 7 starts. The meltdown in State College appears to be an anomaly. He's gone 5 or more innings in 5 of those 6 good outings and would've gone 5 or 6 innings yesterday if Iowa wasn't thumping NW.

To your point, Morgan could have gone at least one more inning and likely two more innings after only throwing 68 pitches. If Iowa can get 6 solid innings out of him to start the B1G tournament, it would a most welcome development. He's trending nicely. Very nicely.

Yep. Yesterday, I posted what follows. Heller has over 1,000 wins; he knows what he's doing. ;)

Just 4 innings for Morgan; 5 days from now he'll be pitching again.

Northwestern is as bad as advertised. Hope we get all 3 games in....
