*****Official IOWA at Northwestern Games Thread (May 18-20)*****

Replay looks like, on the attempted steal, the throw beat Wilmes to the bag but the 3rd basemen didn't get the tag on him in time. Really hard to tell. Throw definitely beat Wilmes.

EDIT: Big early call goes in Iowa's favor. Dorighi needs to drive him in to grab an early lead.

EDIT 2: Northwestern color guy is a moron. On Dorighi's grounder up the middle - which was fielded behind second base - the color guy says that the NW second basemen should have tried to throw out Wilmes at home plate. JFC. Not only would Wilmes have been safe but he probably wouldn't have had to slide. Absolutely the right play by the second baseman.

Top of 1st:

Wilmes DOUBLES
down LF line
Petersen grounds out
Wilmes steals 3rd
Dorighi grounds out, scoring Wilmes
Tello strikes out

Iowa leads 1-0

Heading to bottom of 1st

Northwestern showing today why Heller was complimentary of their ability to score runs. Langenberg inducing a lot of contact and, unfortunately, a lot of balls are finding holes. Certainly appears that Iowa's bats are going to need to produce today. Has a very "high scoring" feel right now.

Might want to consider pulling Ty already and try to change the pace of the game. NW is swinging away.

Missed balk on the pick off attempt by NW which results in Hucksdorf getting caught at second. NW pitcher clearly flinches before attempting the pick-off and Hucksdorf takes off. Tough break for the Hawks. Bats need to get hot soon and Langenberg needs a shut down inning right now.

Just like yesterday, our starter only pitched 4 innings (Heller looking ahead to the B1G tourney).

Langenberg's line:
4 innings pitched
17 batters faced
72 pitches (45 strikes, 27 balls)

3 strike outs
0 walks
0 Wild pitches
0 Hit Batters
6 Hits

3 earned runs

Wow.

Seegers ignored/didn't see Heller's "windmill" sign to go home; he pulls up at 3rd instead

Can't make base running mistakes like that; it cost us a run.

Instead of being up 1, the game is tied at 3

Heading to bottom of 6th

Yikes not good how close works it have been?

Iowa needs to channel Maryland’s effort last night. Going to take quite the comeback.

Would like to see some more patience at the plate. Lots of early swings last inning.

Did I just hear that Tello hit a HR off someone’s glove in the outfield?

Weird game continues.

Top of 8th

Hopefully Seegers' 6th inning base running gaffe doesn't cost us the game.

After this solo HR, the game should be tied. Instead, we are down 1.
