**** Official Israel War thread****

Hamas started this.

If Mexico was run by a terrorist organization and sent 1500 terrorists across the border and killed that many americans...we'd remove that government by any means necessary. Which would entail blowing the ever living crap out of them...

Not a good analogy. If we kept a no man's land of Mexicans, beat them up all the time, killed them from time to time, etc. You could make that comparison.

Senior Hamas official says their terror attack on Israel was planned for two years and 'less than five leaders' knew the full details - as he claims Putin appreciates the assault because it divides America's attention from Ukraine

  • Senior Hamas official Ali Baraka explained how long the terror organization had been at work planning its attack on Israel
  • 'The thing any Palestinian desires most is to be martyred for the sake of Allah, defending his land,' he said
  • On Saturday, Hamas launched a massive terror attack on Israel that has killed 1,200 innocent Israelis and launched the region into war
A top ranking Hamas official said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is pleased with the conflict in Israel, which was planned by terrorists for two years, because it distracts America from the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Senior Hamas official Ali Baraka said during an interview with an Arab news channel that prior to the terrorist organization's massacre of Israelis last Saturday, fewer than five Hamas leaders knew about the attack.

Baraka said that for the last few years, Hamas projected a 'rational' image to the outside world by claiming to focus on governing in Gaza as opposed to planning terror attacks.

That image, however, was part of the organization's plan to covertly plan the massive attack on Israel that has launched the region back into war.

'It (Hamas) did not go into any war. It did not join the Islamic Jihad in its recent battle,' said Baraka.

'But all this was part of Hamas's strategy in preparing for this attack,' the interviewer jumped in to say.
'Of course. We made them think that Hamas was busy with governing Gaza, and that it wanted to focus on the 2.5million Palestinians (in Gaza), and has abandoned the resistance all together. All while under the table, Hamas was preparing for this big attack,' Baraka readily admitted.

'We have been preparing for this attack for two years,' he said.

His comments confirm, among other things, that Hamas' view of the Palestinian people is merely utilitarian. The terrorist organization infamously places headquarters in hospitals, near schools, and in residential neighborhoods to ensure that any retaliatory attacks will cost as many civilian lives as possible.

As the Israeli military began its onslaught against Hamas this week, the IDF and Israeli government repeatedly sent messages to civilians in Gaza to get out before the attacks begin. Hamas reportedly sent messages to those same civilians telling them to stay in place.

Baraka discussed the attitude toward human life taken by Hamas and Palestinian extremists when it comes to war with Israel.

'The Israelis are known to love life,' he said. 'We, on the other hand, sacrifice ourselves. We consider our dead to be martyrs.'

'The thing any Palestinian desires most is to be martyred for the sake of Allah, defending his land.'

He went on to say repeatedly that Russia is a country that 'sympathizes with us.' He said that following the attacks, the Russians sent Hamas leaders messages.

'Russia is happy that America is getting embroiled in Palestine. It alleviates the pressure on Russians in Ukraine,' he explained. 'One war eases the pressure in another war.'

Someone explain how the death of a 5 year old Palestinian Child is somehow better than the death of an Israeli one?

At the end of this, probably 10x the Palestinians will die than Israelis.

Apparently gunning them down is worse than blasting them in houses using bombs.
The moral distinction is quite thin. The barbarism distinction is a mile wide - in the bombing scenario, children are truly collateral damage in that they are not targets, even if they are foreseeable victims, while in the "look them in the eye and put some bullets into them" scenario, the intent is quite clear.

Bombing people from planes is less barbaric? Or we just pat ourselves on the back because it's not as easily seen?
See edit above; honestly it's really not that different from the common distinction between first and second degree murder.

Ummm ok...its still a bad analogy.

What Apartheid state are we maintaining?

But in both cases, the person shooting knows exactly what they are doing. They know what the result will be.

I do not deny that the consequences are sadly foreseeable. But intent matters, whether in the traditional criminal law or the law of war, or in the underlying moral foundations. That is why, for example, the law of war does not 'prohibit' civilian casualties, it only puts a duty on the combatant to seek to minimize them in the context of their actions. It is also why we have a criminal offense called "felony murder", which is less eggregious than intentional homicide and applies where a person is (foreseeably) killed in the course of committing another felony without regard to intent.

Really would like to hear how a tool like you would handle this?
Remember the Gaza residents elected Hamas to lead them.
Elections have consequences.

Its all just more reason that the greatest evil mankind has ever faced is the Abrahamic Religions.

Because by 5 years old that Palestinian child has been taught to hate and kill the Jews.

Maybe Hillary can offer Hamas some deprogramming. That oughta fix it.

Islam now, Christianity during the inquisition and crusades
You know, I have sometimes pondered whether religions an cultures should, in their "historical adolescence," be allowed their opportunity/'growing pains" to act out, such that their elders should be more patient with them as regards to such acting out. I've generally concluded not, primarily because the newer religions and cultures are typically invoking the values that their elders established when they act out. Either way, I view Islam, and I think it view itself, as an adult at this point.

If you want to believe this is always one sided...you would be far from alone.
Oh there are two sides....in the current situation I'm on team Israel Hamas has to be removed from Gaza.

You say they have no government...Hamas is the elected government in Gaza.

(CNN) -- Hamas deserves to be recognized by the international community, and despite the group's militant history, there is a chance the soon-to-be Palestinian leaders could turn away from violence, former President Jimmy Carter said Wednesday.

Carter, who monitored last week's Palestinian elections in which Hamas handily toppled the ruling Fatah, added that the United States should not cut off aid to the Palestinian people, but rather funnel it through third parties like the U.N.

"If you sponsor an election or promote democracy and freedom around the world, then when people make their own decision about their leaders, I think that all the governments should recognize that administration and let them form their government," Carter said. (Watch the former president cautiously defend Hamas -- 4:35)

"If there are prohibitions -- like, for instance, in the United States, against giving any money to a government that is controlled by Hamas -- then the United States could channel the same amount of money to the Palestinian people through the United Nations, through the refugee fund, through UNICEF, things of that kind," he added.

Carter expressed hope that "the people of Palestine -- who already suffer ... under Israeli occupation -- will not suffer because they are deprived of a right to pay their school teachers, policemen, welfare workers, health workers and provide food for people."

As president, Carter brokered a 1979 peace accord between Israel and Egypt at Camp David. That effort helped earn him the Nobel Peace Prize. Through his work at the Carter Center in Atlanta, he regularly monitors elections in numerous countries.

Hamas, which has called for the destruction of Israel and has long been considered a terrorist group by the U.S. State Department, was expected to fare well in last week's elections. But it dominated them, winning 76 of the 132 seats in the Palestinian Legislative Council.

Fatah, which had been in power for decades, earned only 43.

The U.S. Senate on Wednesday passed a resolution saying that no aid should be provided to the Palestinian Authority "if a ruling majority party within the Palestinian Parliament maintains a position calling for the destruction of Israel."

Carter said "there's a good chance" that Hamas, which has operated a network of successful social and charitable organizations for Palestinians, could become a nonviolent organization. (Watch how democracy and religion coincide among Palestinians -- 2:30)

The 39th U.S. president said he met with Hamas leaders in Ramallah, in the West Bank, after last week's elections.

"They told me they want to have a peaceful administration. They want to have a unity government, bring in Fatah members and independent members," Carter said. But he added that "what they say and what they do is two different matters."

However, Carter noted, Hamas has adhered to a cease-fire since August 2004, which "indicates what they might do in the future." He said Hamas is "highly disciplined" and capable of keeping any promise of nonviolence it might make.

This is unreal….come on folks. Israel didn’t start this…if Hamas wouldn’t have done what they did last weekend there would be no bombing of Gaza or cutting their food/water.

Hamas targeted baby’s, families and kids…Israel is targeting Hamas.

The distinction couldn’t be more clear. This “pro Palestine” movement is sickening frankly. I believe any group supporting Palestine right now should be looked at for potential recognition as a hate group. Elections have consequences and Palestine elected Hamas.

I like how they're so trustworthy that we're supposed to believe them now. Like when we wait for a group to claim responsibility. I don't believe the "less than 5 leaders" part if they trained for this for two years. I just wonder what their plan is to do something this awful. There's gotta be a bigger picture.

Oh yes. The USA will now have no claim on international law in Ukraine when we are going to turn a blind eye to it in Gaza.

I do not understand how this conflict in Gaza is supposed to be judged in a vacuum with no consideration for what happened last weekend?

What is Israel supposed to do??

Yep.

Hamas and the Palestinians need to admit Israel isn't going away.

They will just keep the cycle going. They won't end it. They didn't in 82. They won't now.

They could of course aim to kill all Palestinians. That might end it.

First things first, but after Israel defends itself there needs to be a full analysis of what happened, how it was orchestrated, and what went wrong.
Did Egypt warn Israel 3 days before the attacks started? Michael McCaul says so. Shocking if this is confirmed.

The guy that planned this...

Israel killed his parents, wife and child before this.

Do you think he cares at this point?
