MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — President Joe Biden said he thought there should be a humanitarian “pause” in the Israel-Hamas war, after his campaign speech Wednesday evening was interrupted by a protester calling for a cease-fire.
“I think we need a pause,” Biden said.
The call was a subtle departure for Biden and top White House aides, who throughout the Mideast crisis have been steadfast in stating they will not dictate how the Israelis carry out their military operations in response to the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas.

Israel is basically F'd...can't afford losing US support. Kind of figured this was coming sooner or later...was hoping Joe could hold out a little longer to give Israel the time to do what needs to be done.

Wow, not a good look for Joe at all….I think there are probably a lot of democrats like me that back Israel 100% on this.
If it had happened here we certainly wouldn’t be talking any “pause”.
Dems need to have our political reckoning with the “squad” just like the GOP should with the MAGA nuts. No place for any of that.

I wonder how many of these people support Israel, but more than that are concerned about the US getting dragged into the fight.
True...like has been said. We have a lot of morons in the country. I'm sure the polling played a big part in the decision....which is disheartening but par for the course.
A "cease fire" sure sounds good...but it's a W for the terrorist organization Hamas.
Maybe make the "humanitarian pause" conditional to the release of all Hamas hostages? At least put that one caveat in there?

Also who doesn’t want an actual “cease-fire”? But this is way more difficult then a simple “cease-fire”.
As we know this will not be the case at all and mostly any aid heading to Gaza is taken by Hamas. To rid the world of Hamas would be a blessing tbh.

Exactly. Hamas terrorist took AMERICAN hostages. At last count I believe they still hold 10 Americans. Most of the hostages were not even combatants. I would accept a pause if Hamas turned the hostages over. Otherwise what are we even talking about?
A cease fire should not even be discussed until Hamas releases all of the hostages.
Honestly, i take a statement/threat from a us official like this with a grain of salt. Iran may well know that we've threatened them, I will grant, but beyond that, very speculative.
Anyone remember this video from a decade ago or so? I think it's a good example of how challenging the situation in Gaza is for the Israelis in determining Hamas vs. civilian.
