u seem to be correct. Iowa and bad field position meant the usual script: 2 runs for zero and 3rd and long pass short of the sticks followed by 30 yard punt. PSU was going to score a TD on that short field, it was matter of time.

Bad field position is one thing, but not being able to move the ball and establish a first down is another. The offense has to be able to flip the field. Especially when your punter obviously can't.

Throw the ball every down! They have 8 guys within 2 yards of the line of scrimmage. Play action middle mixed with a few long balls may loosen them up and Wadley may be able to break a long one. Play calling has been a F-. Brian appears to be in over his head.
