********Official Penn State at Iowa Game thread ********

We ran a lot because the passing game is not where it needs to be IMO. That we almost pulled it out is a credit to the team...PSU has a real top notch back in Barkley and this could have been a 2-3 touchdown differential real easily.
If you ain't first your last Ricky Bobby.

I think the worst part about all this is the fact that ESPN's precious narrative is still alive.

Iowa played like a top 5 team despite being green as all hell.

So proud of this team.
I am too, believe me, but Iowa did not play like a top 5 team tonight. If the roles were reversed and we went into Happy Valley at night and outgained them by 300-plus yards and won 21-19 I don't think anyone would be saying Penn State played like a top 5 team. We put on a clinic in bend-but-don't break defense though. We are green, that is true, and the future is bright, but damn are we going to miss Akrum and Josey next year. Need to win a championship now while they're here- I still think we will.

I expect more when you pay a coach as much as we do. If you want average than reduce the pay to average.
Then import people and shut down ISU and give us an average recruiting base. By rights Iowa should be a bottom dwelling program. We are a better than 60% program. That means we are hitting above our station nearly every year. You need to become a Nebraska fan. Keep your unrealistic expectations poison out of Iowa City.

Didn't work either. Every one of them got blocked. Our blitzes need some refining..................

You do realize that the whole pass rush had just run 7 plays in a row with less recovery time than normal. As the guys get deeper into a drive and get a bit winded they aren't going to be as effective as the first play of the drive...hence why Iowa brought 6 on that play where they were only bringing 4 prior to that and getting some pressure.

Hmm................yeah, our blitzes need some refining.

where did we play not to lose ? we lost on the last play of the game, grow up.

I was responding to MitchL's post so you could have attached that to my response.

He said conservative play calling and put it on the defense to give Iowa a chance to win at the end.

I ASKED MitchL if that was playing not to lose. Do you know what a question mark is? There it is again. ???

Conservative play calling and putting the game on your defense to hold one of the best offenses in the country under 20 points (which they did) is playing not to lose. Penn State avg 47 points per game.

Hmmm......

Iowa > Oklahoma

I know you like to show up only when Iowa loses, but that just makes you a pu***. If you wanna be a real troll, have Oklahoma lose so that Mayfield can show us his poutty face and not be a cocky prick like McSorely (winning can't fix that issue btw) and still find a way to troll the team that beat you.

Your skill is weak, old man.

Iowaaah > Oklahoma???

Don't post when you've had too much to drink.

Oklahoma has played Iowaaah twice in football. They haven't lost yet.
National Championships - OU, 7; Iowaaah, 1
All-time wins - OU, 877; Iowaaah, 637
Weeks in AP poll - OU, 802; Iowaaah, 313
Weeks at AP #1 - OU, 101; Iowaaah, 11

But you'll be fine. You'll probably win 6 games this year and get invited to a bowl game. And that constitutes a good season for an Iowaaah fan.

Face it, Iowaaah is an average football program, with an above average year thrown in every so often. But you've always got wrestling.

As much as the Iowa D is known for give up a lot of yardage, I don't ever remember a game where they gave up so many yards and yet still came up with key stops when needed, right up until the last play. They must have had at least half a dozen times when they held when needed.

If only the offense would have been better than terrible. The O line was particularly disappointing.
Disappointing is too kind of a word,

Iowaaah > Oklahoma??? (Yeah.....)

Don't post when you've had too much to drink. (Don't post on here when Iowa only loses, pu***. And I'll make sure you're the first to know when I've had too much to drink.........................this is not when.)

Oklahoma has played Iowaaah twice in football. They haven't lost yet. (And Iowa still > Oklahoma....deal with it.)
National Championships - OU, 7; Iowaaah, 1 (Wrong.)
All-time wins - OU, 877; Iowaaah, 637 (Who gives a f***.)
Weeks in AP poll - OU, 802; Iowaaah, 313 (Media bias)
Weeks at AP #1 - OU, 101; Iowaaah, 11 (Media bias)

But you'll be fine. You'll probably win 6 games this year and get invited to a bowl game. And that constitutes a good season for an Iowaaah fan. (And your team will still be quarterback'd by Baker Mayfield, so you'll ultimately lose character-wise in the end anyways....)

Face it, Iowaaah is an average football program, with an above average year thrown in every so often. But you've always got wrestling (And you don't.......We've also got you in basketball, but you don't seem to give a f***.).
Lol see? Glad I could get you to show your true colors. Too easy, you bitter, butthurt Oklahoma fan that got rubbed the wrong way by Iowa for whatever reason years back.....Lmao,

Honestly, though, I know you explained it years back, but I didn't give a f*** back then and forgot what your issue was as to why you keep sneaking around like a pu*** on our boards with your Iowa hatred. You don't have to re-explain yourself because i still don't give a f***, but that's up to you, Oklahoma fan.

You obviously didn't do well in math! Maybe pick up a basic math class at a community college or something.

Proud of OU football? Let's see, 3 of those National Championships came when Bud Wilkinson was there.... in 1955, OU was accused by the NCAA of paying tuition beyond eligibility, paying bills for players' families, and providing cash... In 1960, the NCAA discovered that OU had withheld info about a slush fund operated by the OU coaching staff. Funny, their performance slipped once they had to operate under the rules...

Then of course, Chuck Fairbanks' program got into trouble as well with recruiting violations (boosters providing transportation to recruits, and a Sooner assistant falsifying a player's (QB Kerry Jackson) transcript so he would be eligible)... Then, the next guy, Under Switzer, well, we already know there was no institutional control...
An excerpt from Sports Illustrated:
Only a few hours earlier three of Thompson's teammates, sophomore running back Glen Bell, sophomore offensive tackle Nigel Clay and junior tight end Bernard Hall, had been arraigned for allegedly gang-raping a woman on Jan. 21 in the Wilkinson dorm. Eight days before that, Thompson's roommate, redshirt freshman cornerback Jerry Parks, had shot sophomore offensive lineman Zarak Peters in the chestafter a late-night argument in the dorm. Parks then allegedly aimed the pistol at Thompson, then pointed the weapon at his own head and pulled the trigger, but the gun misfired.

The shooting came one month after the NCAA had placed the Oklahoma football team on three years probation for "major violations," which included offering cash and cars to recruits and giving airline tickets to players. The NCAA Committee onInfractions stated that for "at least several years, the university has failed to exercise appropriate institutional control" over the football program. One more violation in any sport in the next five years and the Sooners program will be temporarily shut down—the so-called death penalty.

Please tell us more about all those National Championships. I mean, since they were won fair and square and by doing everything the right way.

I will say the 2000 National Championship was done the right way. You can thank Iowa for your coach and his staff for that.
