Okay, how about this alternative minimum wage idea?

Well with the exception of low wage low education workers. We should replace them with lower wage teenagers. Right?

Yes, because I'd rather give opportunity to the youths rather than those who squandered their youth. They're getting shut out of the market by the 'adults' who refuse to take their experience and use it as leverage for something better. Maybe this will be the kick in the butt they need.

We can't save everyone. The best we can do is make things better for those willing to try.

Every other 1st world country saves everyone except the United States.

So we can save everyone. We just don't want to because we decided that for some reason . . .

A. We need 100x more tanks then everyone else.
B. It is a moral travesty to ask the people with the greatest amount of disposable income to provide a greater percentage with which to do this.

No, it's true. Because teens who worked more than 20 hours saw their GPA suffer, and those who worked zero hours did do as well as students working one to 20 hours.

Honestly, you can't study every waking hour of every day. Doing other things facilitates the learning process.
I'm trying to solve your problem. If their being in the workforce is going to harm millions who need to work for a living, then it's proper to remove the problem. If you just want them doing other things, there are many options beyond work starting with extracurricular activities and moving right along to volunteering for a cause. I bet if a teen worked 15 hours a week at the soup kitchen we would get even better results than McDonald's and we no longer have them disrupting the wage scale.

Students working more then 20 hours a week are probably more motivated by realizing they have to work to survive rather then just wanting some extra spending money.

Oh, good grief. If you think everyone is gainfully employed everywhere but here, you're delusional.

Disrupting the wage scale? What the hell do you think an increase in the minimum wage does?

The "millions" who need to work for a living need to take their experience and move up the career ladder so that the youth have their own rung to step on to start their own professional careers.

That's racist.

And I just shake my head when the option of a person taking care of themselves is not even suggested.

We do everything in our power to get it so people can take care of themselves. But a lot of people quite simply can't. They are disabled or the jobs just arn't there. It's a moral duty of any nation to take care of those who can't care for themselves.

If you're disabled, there's a safety net for that. If you can't find work, perhaps you're not looking in the right place.

I agree. But there is a larrrge difference between someone who is disabled and someone who chose to go to the skate park, smoke fatties, and play XBox instead of doing their algebra homework. The latter sub-group could take care of themselves, they just choose not to.

That's called setting the wage scale. You said the kids were a problem. Solution, remove the kids. Labor policy should not be conditioned on 16 and 17 year olds. There is really no reason to even consider them in this discussion. But if you insist, I can fix it easy.

I still say if we're going to have labor price controls, they should be more nuanced instead of one-size-fits-all. I actually think the minimum wage should be completely abolished, but based on the way people act toward any proposal to change it at all (except raising it), I guess that's a non-starter.
