One way or the other millions of people in this country are insane…

I'm largely an independent observer. I think it's clear that there's some brainwashed people on both sides.

You are not independent in any way, size, shape or form.

You are as extreme or more so as any poster on this board. You can self-identify as a nuanced, whatever, but you express yourself through your positions precisely as an extremist, attempting constantly to quality yourself as not being one.

Positions are more a measure of extremism than rhetoric.

My comments explain how we ended up with Trump as prez so...
No, they do not. They are the same bullshit excuses and rationalizations that have been on repeat since 2016.

Trump has won the Republican nomination not once, not twice, but three ****ing times. THREE. So, spare everyone the “But Hillary/Kamala!” nonsense. You dumb sons of bitches chose this fat-ass imbecile, and in doing so pushed me out of the party I once assiduously voted for.

So stop making excuses and own the mother ****er. This is just as much on you as it is the MIB.

Were Harris and Trump the only 2 candidates who really had a chance to win?

Yes or no?

I didn't vote.

The true powers that be are playing chess. You're playing checkers.

The WSJ is now openly critical of Trump and has begun ramping up their editorials pointing out his mistaken decisions on tariffs and trades.
Expect the ramping up to continue.

I think I'm starting to see one of the divides in our thinking.

I tend to be more 1 or 0 and you tend to use scales.

These orgs, that on face value support a good cause, that are money trees for every bureaucrat along the way, is that lying or corruption?

Telling the united states tax payers our money is being well spent only to send it off to the marshmallow fund of hades is lying ImO.

Some guy grabbing 10k out of the pot on its way down is corruption to me.
I abhor the fact that some senator’s wife gets a $500K cushy job at an NGO simply because of who she knows. That is nothing more than nepotism and it stinks. I feel the same way about legacy trust fund kids getting into Harvard, about Trump employing Ivanka/Jared, about big time donors to every president becoming ambassadors, and on and on.

That is absolutely common ground.

Where I differ is I do see a sliding scale of badness. The Harvard trust fund kid is less bad IMO than being able to buy immediate government access because you hired the senators]’s wife. And the senator’s wife at a NGO is less bad than being able to influence a FAA contract against a rival simply because you donated 100’s of millions to the president. And influencing the contract is less bad than the President selling access to his inner circle to the highest bidder.

Just like I see shoplifting a snickers bar as less bad than stealing a car. Both are bad, but the degree does matter.

I like you, wish you would post more though it's obvious you see things differently than I.

You thinking either side is going to actually mentally digest that they have in fact been cheering for voldemort this whole time?

You know what, you are right, and as part of thst would like to offer an apology to @bcherod

I made a comment last night regarding your avatar. That was past the line. I am sorry I took it there.
Mmm.

Well, I always say, we are a product of our past experiences, in all areas of life, relationships, business and romantic.

We form opinions based upon our experiences.

I’ve learned a lot in my long life. I listen to what people have to say and I assimilate what I’ve learned. Sometimes I’ve changed my opinions because I see the other side.

But that’s the way I roll.

One thing that I do believe is that studying history, language and literature, provides one with a better understanding of differences.

Living outside the US is another great learning experience.

Sidebar: I admire my friend @ericram for what he’s doing today, as well as those that are open to learning about other cultures.

I don’t know the best way to describe this, but I see a big difference in people that have experienced other cultures and people who have not.

Well one day you'll understand the sophistication with which the oligarchs who really have the power, hold on to that power.

"Divide and conquer" is not a meaningless saying.
Why don't you compare your theory of oligarchs to the JB presidency? I'm pretty sure I saw it in that admin.

This is the part I truly don't understand and will never forgive Trump voters for.

Regardless of any politics, the evidence that that man is a giant, lying piece of shit has been known for DECADES. He was a giant, lying, racist, gross piece of shit when he was a DEMOCRAT in the 1980s.

Everything about Trump the person should be 100% unelectable to anyone with a moral compass or ethics.
I recognized him as a total douchebag when I was just a kid, but the racist accusations didn't really start until 2015.

Not sure what you mean, but putting it in terms of a fantasy story kind of underlines my point. Using fiction to disassociate from reality and avoid self-awareness is another trend that people should be concerned about. That being said, I'm just as guilty of escapism as anyone else.

I read a post a long time ago, by a non-American, who said Americans think they're always in a movie. Originally I disagreed, but American society's recent tendency toward more needless confrontation and general nastiness have made me believe that person was right.

At some point someone is going to have to admit they were wrong, one would think, but do you actually think either side is capable of that?

I don't think we are in the end times as has been misinterpreted by some readings of Revelation and promoted by some snake oil sales people. That being said, we are not in a good place and are heading down a scary road imo.

Pray, my friend. I'm praying all day for peace.

Not in a meaningful way, on a macro level. I actually think that is a consequence of unfettered free speech. The marketplace of ideas becomes two walls which the loudest partisans yell over and things don't change. There is less incentive or potential to reach a shared truth, or commonality, or at least an understanding. Social media algorithms are the reason those walls are getting taller.

The masses have been disgruntled for all of our lives, all of our parents lives, all of our grandparents lives...

And most of you think the same type of thinking that got us into this mess, is going to get us out.

You need to dig deeper.

"Orange man bad" is not even scratching the surface, of the reason the world is the way it is.

We can only control what we can control. Blaming “the powers that be” for our binary choices every election is a little overly simplistic, not entirely accurate, but most importantly beside the point.

I voted for Kamala not because of how much I think of her. I voted for her because I rightly recognized how much of an existential threat Trump is. There should have been no confusion about that.
