OT: Check out this Indiana Box Score

Did you look?

Really?

Ok.

Did you notice the minutes that Crean played his top eight guys in a 33 point blowout of Morehead State? Particularly a blowout that by half was already 50-26!!! Beyond just the unsportsmanlike treatment of his opponent, or the douchiness it takes to keep reserves sitting on their butts only to play at most 4 minutes? Beyond that? He's got Ferrell in the game for 34 minutes!! What happens if late in the game he blows out a knee?!?!?

This is bad coaching 101 here folks. Terrible.

Crean is the worst coach in the B1G. Honestly, I can't figure out why Indiana keeps him around but am thankful they have. He's a good recruiter but absolutely is a poor game coach and doesn't look like his players develop. If Indiana doesn't make the tournament, Crean is gone. The Hoosier nation is getting restless. They expect much more than what Crean is delivering.

That's why many 4/5 star recruits love him, he plays them as much as possible so they can develop their individual high skool skillz like they have been doing since high school to the NBA, especially during blowouts and faltering on critical games against IA. Keep him there forever IN!

While I see why there's room for criticism, I don't really have a problem with it. I definitely don't consider it unsportsmanlike. Never have considered running up the score unsportsmanlike though. Now is it smart? Probably not unless your working on some very specific things in game action, which I doubt. I do think Cream is garb.

Good catch Dan and so glad you are pointing this out. I've noticed this a lot too with Crean cause I always like to risk adjust things when I compare and this is one risk I see him do a lot. I look at the team ppg in blowout wins like this and then I see which players played and how many minutes?

It's incredibly impressive our bench score 58 friggin points in our game on Saturday against the team from KC...the subs should've played and they did and they delivered scoring 95 points total. That's impressive!

And this will only or should help "the team" down the road in the season. IMO...that's great coaching.

This is actually one of the smarter coaching moves Crean has made this year. I'm not a fan in general, but I am a big fan of playing his top-8 the bulk of minutes here. IU struggles mightily with playing long stretches of consistent, competitive effort. The goal is to get better and compete in the B1G and March. This game (against a pretty good kenpom top-120 team before the game) itself was irrelevant as far as winning or score. IU needs to figure who they are and how to play hard and fundamental at a high level, regardless of the circumstance. The game is the best practice it can get, and Yogi Ferrell, Blackmon, et. al. will have to play 30+ minutes in competitive games executing at a high level, so they need to practice that. And, sportsmanship has nothing to do with it.

Minutes are up to Crean, but none of his starters should have needed to play more than 25-30 min. As an IU hater, it is encouraging that Yogi is the only player making any assists, especially in a blowout win. Crean should be concerned about having more turnovers than assists.

Iowa is a developmental program. We try to get minutes for players such as Williams and Flemming that aren't quite ready to develop them for next year. At Indiana, unless you're good enough to play as a freshman, you probably won't ever see the floor. They are just going to recruit over you and Crean you. Perhaps that is why they don't bother to go deep into their bench.

Playing Yogi for 34 minutes seems like overkill. They will fall apart if he is not on the floor in crunch time later on due to injury or fouls. Crean should be cultivating a solid backup for that eventuality.

And Yogi had 7 of the 11 assists for Indiana - apparently they have not learned the team concept of sharing. That will probably come back to bite them.

Afraid I have to agree with Red87 on this one; Indiana hasn't exactly gelled. Crean needs to play his starters into a team. It can also be a motivator: want to play more? Play harder/better.

Four of IU's 5 starters played big minutes last year, so I am not sure why they wouldn't have gelled, unless they have a lousy coach or aren't as good as they are hyped. I think IU has great individual talent, so that leaves Tan Tommy.

He got all kinds of credit for doing so well at Marquette. Turns out he had one of the 30 or so best basketball players in history at the time. Always been a bad in-game coach.
