Other old guys of HROT: Can you develop anxiety in your 50s?

I just did an ad lib speech in front of a big crowd here in Austin, a few filmed it, I keep checking youtube for the proof ha ha

why? am i supposed to care what you think?

You were trying to incite the very same people you are supposed to align with. I don't give a shit if you care or not, but doing things like that can't help you feel a sense of calm or peace. Even if you were trolling as you stated, that seems like a waste of energy. If you are experiencing anxiety, I hope you find a resolution. I am in a relationship with someone that struggles from it and it is a real challenge. Good luck.

I've learned deep relaxation Technics which are supposed to relieve stress. For me, they helped while doing them but then so does a nap. And you have to calm yourself down to do either.

But I'm just relating my experience, not saying they wouldn't work for others.

Maybe it's just my head. True story, at a small group thing (Orgy...well, should have been.) anyway, this got me in trouble...worth the time to read I think.

Instructor. "breath through your mouth, out through your nose. You are going down steps...."

At each step of about eight we were told to close our eyes, or stretch and relax our arms, yeah...easy to imagine relaxation stuff. And about every other time, "Remember breath. In through your mouth, out through your nose."

WelI don't know if the instructor made this part up or not...but the thing goes into, "You are walking in warm water on the bottom of the ocean. You can see schools of fish and...."

And I can't not say it so I say it, "Breeeeeaaaaath!"

There WERE gasps like people sucking ocean water! :D Anyway, I don't have to go to group anymore.

I know you wouldn't guess it from my posts, but I've found that being judgmental and believing I'm better than everyone, really helps keep anxiety/depression at bay.

Agree with Lone Clone that it is a confidence issue. I have self identified a similar issue on a smaller scale it sounds like. I do almost Stuart Smalley like affirmations, just flooding your mind with good mojo to counter the bad that comes in naturally. Remind yourself that you are a badass, aka fake it til you make it.

Just for the record, I was kidding about the Cialis/Viagra, which probably wasn't a good idea. This is a serious subject. I've had problems with anxiety and depression since I was 18 or 19. Really screwed me up for a couple of years, still take medications.

If it's affecting your life, get professional help. Period.
