I would think a farmer and his family butcher their own animals, we always did. 2 cows and six pigs the day after Thanksgiving. Barr would most likely have gone and helped the family butcher it. The family would encourage that because making the scrapple and meat pudding that a lot of pot stirring. Sort of like a good message board:)

That’s funny because around here, ground beef now sells for over$8/lb these days.

My favorite local meat market charges over $30/lb for any of their steaks. (Some are aged 100 days) but I can get really good pork from them for around $6/lb.)
I guess as long as you think it's funny, you're overpaying.

I feed out a couple steers and a few hogs every year. Fill our freezer along with the kids freezers.
I enjoy doing it, know how they were raised, what they were fed and get to pick the butcher I want.

Oh, let me rephrase… That's interesting.

Cesspool can be very educational. I now know the appropriate pricing per pound. Now...what if the farmer says it is grass fed / grass finished? How about regenerative farming?
I get what you are saying but it's actually less expensive for the person raising the livestock to go grass fed/grass finished.
Regenerative farming is the only way to go.

I am one of those suckers that spends a billion dollars at Whole Foods buying Force of Nature meat, so I understand. Any farms in Iowa do regenerative farming? Any way to find this out?

Not a whole lot going on this weekend. NDSU wrestling Clones in some high school gym and PSU wrestling some random team Sunday. Thank heaven our women are wrestling in a decent tournament Sunday so we got that at least.
So...we can expect Clone wrestling to say they wrestled in front of a sold out venue?

I don't know where you buy your quarters from. You should get roughly 125-150 lbs of meat out of a quarter. For less than $3.00 a lb in cost?! I doubt it. The processing alone is $150-$200 around here for a quarter. I buy 2 or 3 quarters a year for years now and have never done it for less than $600 with processing. Just bought one last week and paid $750 for the quarter at $3.00 per lb hanging weight. I will have at least $900 in it after processing, which is the most ever for me.
Just bought a quarter this week…$388

I enjoy doing it, know how they were raised, what they were fed and get to pick the butcher I want.
I miss the days when my grandfather and my family (aunt/uncle) raised cattle just north of Marion. Our freezer was always filled with beef you knew exactly how they were fed. Took it all for granted. Actually much prefer a good burger over steak.

i think buchanon broke him
I think Dresser wrecked another guy by weight cutting!

All the injuries and guys having weight cut issues can't be any coincidence.

They knew back in August where guys needed to be.
