Cobe Siebrecht 1-2
Aiden Riggins 1-2
Zach Glazier 2-2

They don’t seem to be “developing” in other rooms.
Ya they have looked bad. I really expected Cobe to have a better start. Zach is a bloodhound guy with possible AA depending on match up. Cobe had improved a lot in the room and I thought he was a legit AA threat. So far he is a long ways from that. Rooting for Zach and Cobe to rebound and have good years. Sorry Riggins but you go to the clowns you deserve your regression.

Rumor floating about potential RS with Bastida if he's eligible.
heard it’s a possibility — apply for a medical
I think he’s eligible. But if it happens I don’t want to hear from Iowa State fans about Nelson’s age anymore. Yonger’s reported age has him only 7 months younger than Nelson. Apply the classic 2 Cuba years and 30 isn’t far off

Ech hurt his knee in 3rd place match.
Maybe they are all applying for medicals along with Chittum and Swiderski

Levels of competition and skill in sports continue to amaze me. I've seen Herrera dismantle many wrestlers, just toy with them. He cruised to a state title last year. Then, at this level he gets TF, not scoring a point in a match.

Penn State’s Josh Barr get the key victory as Nittany Lion wrestlers thump Lehigh, 36-3

ALLENTOWN — Top-ranked Penn State’s 36-3 victory over Lehigh on Sunday wasn’t exactly action-packed but it wasn’t without its highlights, either.

And topping that list at 197 was Nittany Lion freshman Josh Barr’s 11-3 major decision of Lehigh’s Michael Beard, a two-time All-America and Penn State transfer.

Barr was one of six Lions to earn bonus points as the Lions took nine of 10 bouts from the Mountain Hawks — including eight straight from 133 on — en route to their 58th straight victory in front of 9,769 fans in the city’s PPL Center.

Barr and Beard went through a scoreless opening period and Beard reversed Barr early in the second. But it was all Barr after that. The four-time Michigan champ escaped and took Beard down with a low single-leg, switching to a double. He repeated that in the third, escaping and hitting the same takedown.

Beard escaped with 1:17 left but Barr converted on a hip-high double to seal the major and incite the loudest crowd response of the afternoon.

“I just wanted to wear on him in that first period, a big, strong guy…an old guy. My gas tank is one of my biggest attributes,” Barr said. “I like getting guys tired; guys get tired when they wrestle me. I was faking and snapping and keeping him reacting and eventually I knew he’d crack and that’s when I go get my stuff.”

Barr was not surprised with the major. “That’s kind of how my mind works and that’s how the coaches train us, to just go and score points. Nothing surprising. I was hyped up,” he said. “That was my first real big college match; it was fun. I get my confidence from the way we train; I wrestle with the best partners in the world.”

The weight jump from 184 felt good, Barr said. “I wrestle freakin’ Jake Varner and Coach Cael and Aaron Brooks; I wrestle guys who are way bigger than me, way stronger than me every day. It is what it is; I’ll wrestle anybody at any weight,” he said.

Penn State coach Cael Sanderson was understandably impressed with Barr’s effort. “He wrestled a good, hard patient match,” Sanderson said. “He’s just a goer, so it’s hard for him to do that, but that combination of intensity and just being patient paid off. Beard’s really good and hopefully it’s a good confidence boost for Josh. He believes already. To see him do well is not a huge surprise.”

Penn State freshman Luke Lilledahl faced his first ranked opponent in No. 15 Sheldon Seymour, and a counter takedown with :14 left earned him a 4-1 victory. “I didn’t wrestle the best I could have; my performance wasn’t great but I still got it done,” Lilledahl said. “It was hard to get through his defense and he’s really good, but it’s good to get out there and wrestle and get that one under my belt.”

Lilledahl knows expectations are high for him but he says he tries not to let that impact him. “Not letting that outside stuff get into my head and I think that goes along with just wrestling the way I want to wrestle and not letting those things deter my path,” he explained.

Sanderson said facing and experienced wrestler like Seymour was a good match for Lilledahl starting out. “When he needed to go score, he scored on a scramble late in the third,” Sanderson said. “That’s a tough kid; he’s a good opponent.”

Lehigh’s top-ranked Ryan Crookham took down sophomore Braeden Davis in the first period at 133 and did enough to hang on for a 4-2 win despite yielding a stalling point in the waning seconds.

Then it was eight straight wins for the Lions, starting with Beau Bartlett’s 5-0 shutout over Carter Bailey at 141 and ending with Greg Kerkvliet’s 15-1 tech fall over Calvin Lachman in just 2:07 at heavyweight.

In between, Shayne Van Ness rang up 17 points on former Central Dauphin star Matt Repos in a 17-3 win at 149, and Bethlehem Catholic grad Tyler Kasak trimmed Lehigh’s Logan Rozynski 5-2 at 157.

The final five Nittany Lions scored 12 takedowns and four nearfalls, each earning bonus points for Penn State from 165-285.

No. 1-ranked Mitchell Mesenbrink figured he’d amp things up in the PPL Center at 165 and his three takedowns and pair of four-point nearfalls did that. Mesenbrink’s technical fall at 4:37 (18-1) over Thayne Lawrence gave Penn State an 18-3 lead.

Defending NCAA champ Levi Haines faced Michigan transfer Rylan Rogers at 174 and Rogers had Haines scrambling early with a deep shot on the legs. But Haines emerged from that flurry and turned in for a double-leg, eventually lifting Rogers and lowering him for the three.

“Oh, yeah, that made my back hurt, just watching him…man,” Sanderson said with a laugh. “When he gets his hands locked, he really decides he’s gonna score and he usually scores.”

It was all Haines after that and after and escape and takedown in the second period, Haines trapped a leg and powered Rogers to his back for a fall in 4:12.

Lehigh’s Jack Wilt at 184 chose an aggressive style against four-time NCAA champ Carter Starocci but Starocci was able to turn deep Wilt shots on his legs into stalemates and then quickly turning in for double-leg takedowns of his own.

Starocci turned four takedowns into a 15-1 major decision. Starocci was docked for unsportsmanlike conduct after the bout for pushing Wilt’s head into the mat and Penn State lost a team point.

“It should have been a point,” Sanderson said. “There’s no excuse for that. I think he was probably frustrated the kid wrestled a pretty good match; I think he (Wilt) was in on a leg at least three times.”

Davis went 4-2 with Crookham. PSU has zero questions in their lineup. Every starter is legit and many weights legit 2 deep.
I like how their freshman 197 (Barr) casually stomps the #6 guy in the country. Beard must be thinking he’s glad he left otherwise he’d never see a starting lineup. Not looking forward the January 31st dual. 😑
