The way see it, you’ll need at least two mega studs and three to four standard studs to be a conference title contender.
Mega studs will demand $1.5M each (min)
Standard studs will cost $500K each
That’s about $5M right there.
The remaining roster probably won’t require NIL money, there salaries, sorry, I mean athletic stipends can come straight from revenue sharing. They will probably get about $150K each.
Those are 2025 numbers so keep in mind prices will only go up.
The key will be retaining the studs you recruited and not getting outbid when they decide to test their market value in n the portal.
You are assuming that everyone will gel. Kentucky is a good example- all the talent in the world but not as successful as they hoped (in the recent NIL era). I don't see us achieving this, let alone keeping up. I look at Minnesota- Twin Cities with a 1M population and many Fortune 100 companies, lots of wealth and they aren't doing this. I think the number of colleges doing this is few, but I do understand that more $ the better chance at success. I just don't see Iowa and Iowans getting to a large NIL number, let alone sustaining it.
.What does it have to be going forward in order for the Hawkeyes be a player in this conference?
Everyone wants to point out how good st johns is with the money they spent but it's almost a 1 to 1 ratio of success to complete flop with these big payroll players.Or Kansas. They have one of the wealthiest teams and they are not anywhere as good as normal.
