Glad the alcoholics and teetotalers got to argue with each other. It doesn't feel like football season till that happens. Dissapointing it took 3 weeks for this to happen.
I also said I didn't mean you in particular. Thanks for playing though....you get a participation ribbon.I don't "have" to have booze, as explained in prior responses. Keep trying though, you're doing great.
I like to tailgate and get a good buzz on, then slow down so I am barely buzzed and fully coherent for the game so I am more in the moment so to speak. I like to have a couple 2 or 3 during the game to keep the edge.I wouldn't agree that alcohol enhances the experience of watching a football game. I don't get that all but to each his own. Are you saying if you watch a game sober it's not as fun as if you were faced? To me that sounds like you are more there for the party than the football game which could be very likely and completely understandable.
The only problem I see with alcohol at the game is there are too many idiots that can't handle it. Too many incidents that brought us to this point.
Gotta maintain the buzz!If you are sneaking in alcohol, then you aren't tailgating long and hard enough before the game.
Everyone gets those now days. And after I realized you didn't mean me in particular, I tried to edit my post and couldn't. The site was down for a while.I also said I didn't mean you in particular. Thanks for playing though....you get a participation ribbon.
1. I am not anti alcohol.1. Because it enhances the fun, the experience, releases inhibitions that lead to more people stepping out of their norm, which definitely leads to more cheering/yelling.
2. Maybe there are 10 total people that can't in that stadium, every one of the rest of us can. This is what is called a straw man. It has no impact on question 1.
3. Of course people can. People can also enjoy salt/pepper on their steak, or french fries, or whatever....it doesn't mean it is necessary for enjoyment. It enhances the enjoyment.
Same reason alcohol is introduced at parties, to lower social inhibitions and increase cooperative activities like dancing, clapping, cheering, yelling....hell just saying "hi, how are you."
It appears you have an inherent disdain for alcohol, and maybe you believe you have a good reason for doing so. Fine, live your life, let others live theirs.
Edit to add question: Are you questions concerned about the "illegality" of bringing the alcohol in? Would you ask the same questions at a concert or NFL game?
No biggie.Everyone gets those now days. And after I realized you didn't mean me in particular, I tried to edit my post and couldn't. The site was down for a while.

1. I am not anti alcohol.
2. I hope the kid sitting next to me at the Michigan game in 2003 who had a bit too much to drink and fell asleep enjoyed his enhanced experience.
3. If someone needs artificial stimulation to enjoy a game, they are doing it wrong.
4. I have no problem cheering loudly and enjoying a game.
I have nothing against an adult beverage or two. I just don't understand why people seem to think they can't have fun or enjoy something unless they have alcohol. To each his own, I guess.
Back to the subject, any idea how many tickets are still available today?
Someone tweeted yesterday that 62k have been sold.
I don't care if people drink.
HOWEVER, I don't want to hear some loudmouth that is hammered all game long and I particularly don't want to be anywhere near the one that can't hold his alcohol and pukes for a 2 or 3 seat radius.
Any chance Kinnick can set up a drunk section and let these belligerent individuals enjoy each others company?

You run into this a lot? I'm asking because in the last 20 or so games I've attended as an adult I've never seen anyone throw up in the stands, and there have been just a couple occasions of a drunk loudmouth. Nothing uncommon of watching live sports anywhere.I don't care if people drink.

What straw man? My point is, I don't understand why people think they need to drink at a game. And what difference does it make if I used an example from 2003? Chill out, little buckaroo.Again with the straw man. It doesn't sell your point.
Way to bring up 12 years ago.
You know what else I've seen in Kinnick? Fully sober old men taking naps.
60,000 is a full Kinnick. 70,000 is an uncomfortable full Kinnick.A stadium can be half full and still look full on TV. Depends on where the gaps are and what the cameras do.

Also....I have NEVER seen a sober old man taking a nap during a game, FWIW.

My goal is to be carried out of the game by my buddies at the end of it because I am so hammered.
Then why do people sneak alcohol into Kinnick if they don't feel they "need" it to enjoy the game? They have plenty of time to drink before and after. They know it is not allowed. Why is it so all-fired important to drink at the game, too? If these people don't need it, then why can't they go 3 hours without it?THE ENTIRE PREMISE IS A STRAWMAN.
Your premise is that posters are saying they NEED alcohol to enjoy the game. Definition of strawman.
I have seen probably 5-6 people napping during the game since your 2003 irrelevant example.

Nope, no strawman here. Just legitimate questions on my part to try to understand why some people do the things they do.
That's almost as puzzling as when people are worried about what others do for enjoyment.....just love judgemental people up in others businessThen why do people sneak alcohol into Kinnick if they don't feel they "need" it to enjoy the game? I like that, in fact you may be exactly the kind of shot in the arm this program needs.I got so drunk one time at a game, and I was high fiving with the guy behind me, and his wife and him switched seats when she went to the bathroom , and I turned around and high fived her right on the forehead, lol. It was classic.
Nope, not a strawman. Just legitimate questions to try to understand why people do the things they do. There is a difference between asking why people in general "think" they need alcohol (which is what I am doing), and claiming posters in this thread actually do need it. I'm sorry this is too complicated for you to understand.Seriously? They want to. WANT, not need. Are you drinking outside the stadium? Then why not inside? Because it's "illegal"?
Hell, it is illegal for you to be drinking outside the stadium.
That is why it is a strawman, your premise is that they have to, need to, can't go to the game, or enjoy it without it. That is patently absurd, and nobody here is claiming that.
Why do you drink before the game? Because you need to? Can't you enjoy tailgating without it?
Maybe it's you...? Yeah, we think it is you.I have had to move sections 4 times, because of stuffy, uptight people. Just like the people in this thread complaining.
Sadly, too many of you don't understand the difference between NEED and WANT. Hence many of the problems some of you have with your personal lives/financesThen why do people sneak alcohol into Kinnick if they don't feel they "need" it to enjoy the game? That is painfully obvious.Sadly, too many of you don't understand the difference between NEED and WANT. Hence many of the problems some of you have with your personal lives/finances

My claim is that alcohol is not needed to have fun and enjoy the game. You claim it makes the game more fun, enhances the experience, and leads to more cheering and clapping (talk about strawman!). We have different opinions. Let's just leave it at that.
I don't drink before the game, so your premise that I do is also a strawman.
I don't think you understood me.That is painfully obvious.
There was a thread recently (either on this or a different site) about wedding receptions where no alcohol is served. Many posters did not like that. Acted like it was their "right" to have alcohol. Some would leave to go to a bar so they could drink. Some would go buy beer and drink in the parking lot. One guy said he always keeps beer in a cooler in his car trunk for situations like this.
Seriously? Is it THAT important to drink at every function? Is it THAT difficult to attend a wedding reception without alcohol? For most people.....no. But for some, it clearly is.
Some folks mistakenly assume I am anti-alcohol. Not true. I will occasionally partake. If I am attending a function, the LAST thing on my mind is whether there will be booze or not. I am able to enjoy things for what they are.
You either do not understand my posts, or are deliberately being obtuse. Given your propensity to be snarky and argumentative of opinions that differ from yours, I'm inclined to go with the latter.Well you obviously don't understand the concept of strawman.
Also, I never claimed you drink before the game, you proposed that you were fine with people that do.
Your entire premise is that drinking before is fine, but during makes some sort of necessity, which is absurd.
What percent of the attendees in Kinnick tonight will have drank alcohol, in your opinion?
