They ain't come to school for sports!
"Tell the students. They will be the no shows," elicited the response above. Here's mine:

You're right; they didn't come to school for sports. They came to drink and otherwise screw around for five or six years, accrue massive debt, play Pokémon, and leave with an often useless degree. Attending sports events has no place in that demanding agenda.

It was crack at cardale bud.

That said, sounds like we need some Pokemon halftime shows??

I am really not sure that is true. Purdue has the same seats as Iowa and they are packed.
.

Purdue student basketball tickets are FREE. At Purdue students pay $135 (2022-2023 prices) for a "Boarding Pass" that guarantees a football ticket. All other sports are FREE, with the pass.

$135 is basically free, as it costs the school at least that much to process & administer tickets to sporting events. Admin staff, ticket takers, security personnel are not volunteers...

Iowa students paid ($190) just for football ONLY, in 2021. It'll probably go up in 2022.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

If Iowa were to put students on the floor in sections B-F, the first 10 rows of B, C & D (with a couple of empty rows behind for the old fogies that scream "sit down"), then the same for sections LL-HH, the first 10 rows of LL, KK & JJ, like OSU, MSU and others do, that would help create a better basketball experience. And make it FREE for football ticket holders, with a cap on tickets allowed; First-come, First-served. Or a lottery of some sort.

Why not try this? With the added student fans, The university would make more money on concessions that would at least partially offset the costs. It would help the atmosphere for certain.

Don't get me wrong. I am all for trying something and moving the blue hairs out. I am also all for free tickets for students. I am still not convinced they will come on a consistent basis.

My rebuttal to that is who makes the Iowa women's basketball games and wrestling meets loud? It is not the students. When the students do show up they are disengaged. Of course there are kids who get there early and try to get as close as they can to make a difference. I am not talking about them. It is the rest of the population. It's happening more and more often that students get bored and don't show up because of a million excuses.

I'd almost like to see a type of supporters section like they do in soccer. Get anyone in there that won't sit and cheer the entire game. Don't need derogatory chants or anything but just a section where people will not be told to sit down when an exciting play happens.

Where did you get your degree?

Does anyone know what time the pregame festivities begin? @Suterman maybe you can help me with this one? We are sitting right behind Izzo so I’m looking forward to exchanging pleasantries with him throughout the game.

Students are not your prime concession audience. At any sporting event. That would be families with small kids. And I guarantee those small kids can make more noise than any of Iowa's pitiful student section showings this year.

Out of the 25 games before OSU please provide a list of performances you would say should inspire a raucous fan base of these "pitiful" students who have to pay their own way on a Tuesday and are not given free tix like other places.

What is pitiful is Barta doing nothing to improve the environment of Carver and the total inconsistency of the bball program on any given night. The crowd for Michigan was more than they deserved at the time, hopefully the fans over deliver again just 5 days later. You can't play 1 or 2 good games all season vs quality opponents and expect students and casual fans to do cartwheels with enthusiasm. It's pretty simple

Over $30 per student fball ticket is ridiculous too. Stingy ass athletic dept.... So we can support wrestling I guess?

There are probably some clouds outside you could go yell at.

That's quite the logical response. Where'd you get your degree? I'm guessing McDonald's University where academics are so serious they don't even have sports.

U of I. You are a bitter old man, huh? Have a great day and don't kick any puppies today.

Yeah. My son has a boarding pass at Purdue. Honestly I don't know if he would attend if he had to pay for his own tickets. 🙄

Free tickets to Kirkwood students.

Also sell tickets at bars around Eastern Iowa, so us tavern Hawks will buy them.

"6pm game, tough to make with kids"
"After a holiday, busy night catching up on work"
As they say, there's always an excuse if you need one. Appreciate everyone who is able to suck it up and get to Carver. The team deserves a loud and engaged crowd.

Roads just an issue. Hard to treat ice when it's cold, windy and overcast. I'm leaving shortly to give myself plenty of time.
Traveled 80 just a bit ago from IC to western Iowa. Watch for troopers. There were a ton out. Couple had people pulled over which surprised me with this weather.

Not at all surprised. Sometimes it seems that bad weather brings out the crazies. 🤪
