**Paris Olympic Wrestling**

This is almost a 1/4 of a pound which is quite a bit. Because of an injury my Junior year of HS I had to certify scratch weight in January. After working out in the morning, still over by an 1/8. It was pure hell getting my sweats back on, I lost it upstairs. I was asking to have my head shaved. Thank God for great coaches. I did make weight and it’s a day which was ingrained in my head forever. I am sure others on here went through it.
The Barry Davis story is a classic.

Not making weight at the Olympics is unfathomable. She should have been up all night. Scratch my head.
The story is that she WAS up all night.

Here’s an interesting discussion: should the Indian coaches have pulled Vinesh for injury instead of missing weight? She would have collected the silver medal instead of going home with nothing. They should have known before she stepped on the scale that she was over weight. Thoughts?

You're right about the consequences - but man when you're in the moment? And you beat the favorite?

Only thing they were thinking was Gold (rightly so)

She'd still have to make weight.

Sounds like a good idea, maybe.

Article 56:

"For all the other type of injuries or diseases that happen after the first day of competition and out of competition, the concerned athlete will have to attend the second weigh-in otherwise he will be eliminated of the competition and ranked last, without rank."
Thanks for setting me straight. Really stupid rule though. If an athlete is truly injured their chance of making weight is slim.

Interesting it doesn’t state they have to make weight, only that they have to attend the meeting. I think there’s some leeway here.

Is it slim? It’s a multiple weigh in tourney. If you’re going to be that far off after day 1, you’re at the wrong weight.

I believe the Iowa state tourney has a similar rule. Don’t make weight and you don’t get a medal. So not unheard of.

That's how it is at NCAAs I think. Happened to a Wyoming kid.

If I remember right, Joe LeBlanc missed weight on Saturday morning of nationals when he had made it to the consolation semifinals. He had to forfeit both his matches that morning (obviously), and Wyoming lost all of his accumulated team points, but the coaches and/or officials all got together and decided that he was allowed to keep his medal and his spot on the podium.
