Pat Flanagan Open

Gunther over UW/Platteville in quarters (14-4). 165lbs still wide open next year?

Good to see Iowa's redshirts there. And of course good to see Brody finally on the mat again--I think this is exactly what he needs as his first competition.

Wilke up against Hunter Ritter (in hole). Holloway pinned Ritter last year at Disney I think.

Told him he had to cut his hair or use a hair net.they also had to do this earlier with another kid with dread locks both refuse cut hair .no net available and niether would cut hair.total BS

That's why Moody got DQ'd? Sheesh. Sounds a bit arbitrary, but what's the harm in putting a hair net on? Gnash your teeth and get on with it.

Never mind: I reread your post. See no hair net was available. Silly. Let the guys wrestle.

It has nothing to do with trusting the coaches. This competition level DOES NOT benefit like Iowa Wrestling is accustomed to Come introduce yourself today gablefan73. I'm here are you? You've obviously NEVER wrestled before---if you had you'd understand my reasoning. Stick with your POM POM's and cheerleading.
Have you played any competitive sports? Wrestling against others outside your room is better than just practicing against the same people all the time. At some point you need to see others and probably best to boost confidence, too, after injury.

BTW, looks like no SSJ today. Thought he was supposed to be there. Does he really exist or just trying to protect his stellar record at Iowa?

Pry driving to Chicago to fill in for Cooper tmw!

Ill be here all night folks, make sure to tip the waitress!

Quarterfinal - Hunter Ritter (Wisconsin) won in sudden victory - 1 over Cash Wilke (Iowa) (SV-1 3-1)
Bummer

Bowman is @ 174 now:
Open 174 - Mitch Bowman
Quarterfinal - Mitch Bowman (Iowa) won by fall over Kelly May (Coe College) (Fall 0:41)
Semifinal - Mitch Bowman (Iowa) won by fall over Quinn Brophy (Wisconsin Lacrosse) (Fall 3:37)

No net to use and ran out of time.Moody cut some hair off waiting to find out if he can go again

As for the hair net thing, it's a bummer, but I think it's a good rule of thumb to keep your hair reasonably short if you want to be a serious wrestler. I understand individuality and all, but wrestling and long hair don't exactly go hand in hand.

That said, Jeremiah might want to check out what that kid from Illinois did to contain his locks last night. His hair was almost down to his waist and he managed to keep it covered up pretty well.

If you're going to have long hair, you'd best come to the competition prepared to deal with it and make sure you're within the rules.

If your gonna have an Afro or rat tail bring ya own net son!

Agree. . . But let the guys wrestle. This isn't the Olympics, and Moody's opponent is deprived of a match too. What principle is being served here? This isn't a safety issue, is it?

Moody has been calm and joking with team mates the hole time, the kid smiles alot, seems to be pretty good natured kid.told him to go out kick some butt and said you got it with a grin.

He has done very well this year, too bad he had to miss that match. He puts up a lot of points and gets after it.

They let him wrestle first round, then decided to DQ him next round - that's weird:
Champ. Round 1 - Jeremiah Moody (Iowa) won by major decision over Clark Doyle (Wisconsin Lacrosse) (Maj 21-11)
Quarterfinal - Isaiah Patton (Northern Iowa) won by disqualification over Jeremiah Moody (Iowa) (DQ)

My nephew had dreads when he wrestled and he always had a hair net with him but only had to use it about half of the time. It was never mentioned at weigh-ins and there were times when he would wrestler in a tourney and one ref would make him wear a hair net and the next would not. Totally inconsistent between tourneys and refs. There were even times when I would see a white wrestler with hair that was even longer or bushier then my nephews and he would be allowed to wrestle with no hair net but my nephew was forced to wear one.....not saying anything, just saying.;)

Brody has Cole Martin. Not positive but think we recruited this kid at one time

Ref told moody when he walked on the mat to cut hair or get a hair net. No hair net available so ran to the corner and Holloway started cutting his hair. Got half of it off, and ref said injury time was over so DQ'd him. Head ref had told the ref of that match a long time before moody ever went out that he had to cut it or wear a head net. Should have called moody to the head table rather than wait till he checked in for that match. We asked the head ref why it wasn't called during skin check / weigh ins. He said, "It's not my job to tell them that". Though he did say at NCAA's refs make sure those things are taken care of at skin checks / weigh ins. That being said...Moody HAS cut his hair & heard something has now changed and Moody WILL get to wrestle that match. Not sure how they're gonna do that after calling the DQ, but heard they were. Head ref stormed into one of the Loras offices on the phone :)
