Go to Cyclonefanatic and read what his dad has to say. Oh my goodness! His screen name is PD2. The guy has an excuse for every loss his son has had. He is cussing/calling people names currently on the board. He is telling some posters to meet his son face to face. Insinuating that his son would assault them if they did. Yikes.

Says that his son got "robbed" in his loss to Burak and if he would have wrestled Morgan MaCintosh at the University trials he would have beat him too.. Right.. Evidently PD3 chose to wrestle in Poland instead. The last post I read was that Pat lost 12-3 in his first match. Should be interesting to read what excuse his dad has for that showing.

I understand a father wanting to protect his children but you would think someone close to him or the ISU wrestling program would have told him to chill by now. I wouldn't be surprised if he started a screen name here just to challenge me to a fight! And I have nothing bad to say about his kid at all! He is about as thinned skinned as it gets and needs some help.. Embarrassing

A couple quotes from PD2.

"Burak!? He beat Burak... got robbed. A healthy Downey would tear him up."

Talking about his son wrestling McIntosh. ..
"Lol... at his ideal weight, a healed fractured rib, lots of quality training and freestyle... McIntosh is lucky that PD3 tore his MCL two weeks ago" I'm sure Morgan struggles to sleep at night thinking of having to wrestle PD2.

And for those of you that follow international freestyle.
"Pats been studying Sadualev. He's shorter, and if he can get in on him and get him off his feet or onto his toes, it's #AirDowney. :)"

Some stats on Abdulrashid Sadualev

2012 Cadet World Champ 76kg
2013 Cadet World Champ 85kg
2014 Ivan Yarygin Champ 86kg
2014 Yaşar Doğu Champ 86kg
2014 Russian National Champ 86kg
2014 European Champ 86kg
2014 Wenceslas Ziolkowski Champ 86kg
2014 World Champion 86kg
2015 Medved Champ 86kg
2015 European Games Champ 86kg
2015 Russian national champ 86kg
2015 World Champ 86kg
2015 European Nations cup Champ 97kg
2016 European Champ U23 86kg

All that and the Dude was born in the mid 1990's. Russia didnt even have him wrestle at their Nationals. He is their Rep in Rio no doubt.

Now dad says he was told PD3 lost 6-5 with an unsuccessful challenge on a pin. Lol who knows..

kid is really good and if he was at 197 for iowa this year it would probably make us close to being the favorites, but I wouldn't want him representing my team.

Yes, no argument there. He is a stud wrestler no doubt. It's just sad his dad raised him to knock people's teeth out when the going gets tough. Foolish

A lot! But not nearly as many PEDs that exist in Russia. :D

Well done.

I'm sure Morgan McIntosh is living in fear haha. Be like, "Downy? Love me some fresh smelling Downy."

The same guy who said he was going to NYC to watch his kid and then never showed up? I know because I saw the rest of the family there and no old man and overheard them talking about him not showing up.

Very disappointing that a father would teach his kid to solve everything through fighting. Sometimes it's the only answer but not all the time

A lot of things about the kid make sense after reading his dad's posts. Yikes. He's even jumping on people trying to help him. What a total maniac. I heard even RRF thinks he's a whack job.

Sad to see this happen with very talented wrestlers. One of the best high school wresters I've ever seen (early 90s in Colorado, name was Steve Granieri) would enjoy using painful moves on young, inexperienced kids just for the fun of it - it was like "look how I can torture my opponent and put him in pain, but still keep it legal." During tournaments he would spend much of his time when not wrestling, looking for someone to fight - his father appeared to condone it. Never went to college, I believe because he scored in single digits on his SAT. Maybe he would have done well in UFC if that was around back then.

Sadly, it is easier to have a kid than get a drivers license. World would be a lot better place if you had to meet some minimum standard of parenting skills to be allowed to have a kid. I would actually be surprised if the young Downey has not already knock some girl up.

Or knocked her teeth up and out

PD stalled his a$$ off at NCAAs. If he was actually forced to wrestle and engage people on their feet he probably doesn't even AA. He's talented, but even his perceived talent by many outside of his father is vastly overrated. His style does translate somewhat to international styles, but he will never be anything at those either for a variety of reasons.

I'm a little late to the party on this guy. Given his background, how the hell does any D-1 program allow this guy on its team - or even on its campus? There is not a chance in hell that Downey could have wrestled at Iowa - couldn't clear him through the AD and T&T wouldn't want him regardless. Didn't we whiff on Cayle Byers? And, he was a great student and decent guy. ISU is a joke!

Let's not judge Pat Downey 3 by Pat Downey 2's actions. The father is clearly a piece of work. It'd be best for both of them if the Dad would stay off the message boards. It is clear to see that the younger Downey wasn't necessarily raised in the best environment, and that explains some of the actions that took place in his younger years.

The younger Downey appears to have straightened his life out a bit. He did what he needed to do to graduate from Iowa Central, stayed clean and eligible at ISU, and obtained an AA status. He has had to overcome a lot, including a blow hard father that has had plenty of his own legal issues. Hope he continues to stay clean, gets his degree, and becomes a productive member of society.

Senor Menoza...glad to see you back. Just out of curiosity, I looked Granieri up. Seems he continued his stellar treatment of others up at North Idaho (despite being 2nd team Asics)...A fellow wrestler died at a party from alcohol related issues. Seems the guy took 11 shots of tequila (who hasn't been there), drank a lot of beer, and passes out. Steve and others sharpied him up and laid him on a pillow to choke on his own vomit. Steve did go on to have a crappy MMA career.

Curious how much you know UNC wrestling.
Had a few buddies on my high school team that AA'd there...Matt Lucas, Chris Nelson, Chris
Villalobos...studs all. Villalobos was 1st team Asics and was a freshman when I was a senior.
