Patrick should start

you want to talk about Weiskamp being weak under the basket then what would you say about Patrick? He has gotten pushed around underneath on the boards and few times in the paint he hasn’t been strong either. Not throwing Patrick under the bus but those aren’t his strong points but to say Patrick should start over joe it’s ironic reasons listed are Patrick’s biggest weaknesses in his game right now. JW is a better shooter, defender and rebounder. Reason he was 3rd team all conference last year.
Had JW not struggled with his shot from February on (can’t remember exactly when the lid in the bucket first appeared for him), he was playing really well and had a chance at 2nd team all B1G in the 2019-2020 season.

Patrick shooting 50% from the line is disturbing. Was he a decent FT shooter in HS?
quickstatsiowa is a great resource for Iowa high school BBall players. Patrick shot a respectable 76.3% his Sr year in HS. As a coaches son I expect his FT % to improve quite a bit.

I have to laugh at this post, but it's entirely true...every year there's always a player that doesn't live up to Iowa fans "standards" and is the topic of criticism. Whether it's Josh Oglesby, Dom Uhi, Brady Ellingson, and last year Cordell Pemsl.
I guess it's just become a Hawkeye tradition that is unfortunately a result of a program that has not fulfilled Iowa fans expectations....
can we take brady off this list ? lol

Patrick will get his chance to start and deservedly so, but not this year. And the negative comments about JW are just absurd.
Certainly not going to start over JW, however I do think he is the most likely NBA player on the team. By far the most upside on the team. Not that Garza can’t play in the NBA,

Patrick start....Conner not......a blind coach can see it.

100% agree. P Mac was a top 50(?) recruit and has demonstrated those skills this year stuffing that stat sheet.

I believe the best IOWA lineup will include P Mac being on the floor.

Too me, it doesn’t really matter if he starts, but is does matter that he logs minutes similar to Wiescamp.

It’s really interesting how many people who choose to post on a Division 1 team’s basketball board clearly don’t know much about basketball.
Ten percent of fans are idiots. 90 percent of those idiots are on hawkeyereport. It is what it is

IIRC P-Mac was Top 40 at one time, but Rivals dropped him to 75.

It's early and the competition has been light. Right now though P-Mac is in the Top 5 in minutes played.

Let’s see how PMac does against some legit competition like UNC, Gonzaga or early part of conference play before proclaiming him one of Iowa’s top 3 players.

Agree (with all) on the light competition, and agree on top 5 in minutes, with my point being minutes played are really more important than who starts.
The natural progression will be those that end up playing the most minutes, usually end up earning the starting roles.
of course, the blow outs skew the minutes played, so until the competition becomes better, all stats require a bit of an asterisk.

All that said, P Macs overall skill sets have been impressive and now with a healthy body you can see why he was well respected nationally.

We'll see how the season plays out, We have a veteran team. and 2 games in P-Mac and Keegan are 2 of our top scorers. If that continues this will be a season to remember.

I agree. They both go aggressively to rim and getting to FT line, use their athleticism to crash board, run the break and play defense, while confidently shooting from range.
garza and JW will lead minutes and FGA, but I do see these 2 taking both metrics from the returning rostered players.

If there is a change to the starting lineup, I think Keegan might be the most complimentary player due to his rebounding ability, not to mention that he has a pretty sweet stroke from long and mid range.

Have any of you watched Wieskamp tonight? The left hand he couldn't handle?
He can shoot, that is it.
