Patrick

I'm thinking it's going to be hard for Fran not to insert him right back into the starting 3 spot if not immediately then sometime in the near future.
I sure hope not. It wouldn't be fair to Patrick or the team to put him ahead of Connor or Sandfort at this point.

Hes not really suited to play that spot anyway.

If he's at the 4 he may actually be able to take some guys off the dribble which is what he wants to do. And also won't be taken off the dribble as much.

Now that its clear to all involved that the team doesn't need to rely on Patrick to win the healthiest thing for him would be to give him a lower pressure back up role.

Tell him to just go try and rebound and earn his way back to more minutes.

I posted in another thread, Sandfort is better in EVERY statistical category except rebounds - and when on a per minute basis Payton is better at that too. So Sandfort should be in front of Patrick. As for Patrick as a sub for Murray, why? As I just stated, Sandfort is a better defender and rebounder and tougher under the basket.
Well, to this point Kris is basically playing every minute he can but that does make sense to get him a little rest and Sandfort some more minutes that way.

Why is with the team if he's having anxiety issues?

Seems like he'd be removed from the situation in general if it's affecting him.

And I understand there could be a myriad of issues causing one anxiety but being in front of 10k+ people specifically watching you is interesting.

Whatever, we can use him when he's ready.
I think the team is really good support for him. It's like a family and this team obviously have good chemistry.

In his last three games he played 87 minutes, was 5-29 FG, 2-14 3pt., and scored 20 pts. Those don't warrent a return to the starting lineup, especially in the light of a four game win streak. Others are playing better right now. Ease back into it. Might take some off of the pressure he feels.

Respectfully, have you had, or been close to someone that suffers from, anxiety?

I have several family members, including myself, that have been or are currently being treated for depression/anxiety. It's different in every one of them.

Some feel anxious all the time, like my Dad, who lived in practically a constant state of worry. Others feel fine most of the time but have panic attacks. Anxiety can be mild or severe - in the same person.

I'm sure he is getting lots of advice, counseling and some meds - hope it helps him.
I have pretty severe anxiety for years now. I expect Patrick is taking medication and has really good support systems in place which is why he's been with the team. Another good support system for the young man.

Appears to have been some aspect of playing basketball,.. Hard to play basketball without re-encountering the issue...
Anxiety is a complex thing. None of us should pretend like we know what has caused the problem, or what will help it.

I don't necessarily disagree with any of this with the possible exception of playing him primarily at the four and I think it's a joint decision between Fran and Patrick as to how this plays out.

There's a few mental hurdles that both need to clear to arrive at this place. I know that Fran only wants what's best for his sons. Sometimes that means adjusting expectations. I'm sure that Fran and Patrick both saw things playing out differently than they have and coming off the bench his junior year wasn't part of the vision they had. It's really not easy being the coach's son in major college basketball unless your name is Doug McDermott or Jett Howard. Throw in the thyroid cancer challenges and it gets a whole lot tougher.

Yeah I agree.

Its got to be extremely difficult coaching your son when he's not the best or worst player on the team.

Its impossible to be truly objective.

I feel like taking time off will probably help them to reevaluate priorities and expectations and see things more clearly.

Patrick has at least one full year left , maybe two? So he's got time to still be a starter left.
