I can now understand Fran not playing Traore (spelling?) if he was injured. But if Sandfort was injured—what the hell?!?!? I have played a lot of basketball (am old), I understand when the shot is not falling, you try to help the team in other ways, rebound, defend and assist. As a shooter, you may try to shoot yourself out of a slump…..but it doesn’t always work. It is a coaches responsibility to get a guy out that is hurting the team. Sandfort did not decide to help his team in other ways——Fran—-get his ass off the court! This one is on Fran.

Iowa is defiantly improving on the defensive end, but to say Iowa has elite defenders is a bit of a stretch. Iowa lost that game because Payton and others couldn't hit the broad side of a burn and nothing more. Get your shooters heathy and move on.
Payton and Josh do not need to play tomorrow night, play Traore, Thelwell, Cooper, and Pryce more minutes, for Iowa to be as good as they can be, everyone needs to be 100%.
Traore is the better option. He's an exception athlete. If this dude develops a 3 pt shot where he's +35%, he could be an NBA player. Defends, rebounds, decent handles & a high flyer. Maybe that's why Fran doesn't start him. He's afraid he'll turn into a lottery pic! lol
I would argue Traore & Thelwell combined can be very good. Elite is used way to loosely for any Iowa defender under Fran.
Sandfort is off to a cold start and the teams perimeter shooting is not great as a whole . For us to win against good teams we have to shoot better and rebound a hell of a lot better! Except for Freeman they doesn’t seem to be anyone else on this team that has the right mentality to be a good rebounder. You have to be willing to take a few elbows to the face like Luka did.
Sandfort had to ice that shoulder down after all the shots he missed.
Dembele is a bit of a mystery to me. He doesn't score and he doesn't rebound. Yet he starts. When he is on the floor, he should be told that every rebound is his to take and he needs to concentrate on that. We have plenty of scorers, but won't win if we continue to get outrebounded by double digits. Dembele is a big, strong young man and he needs to find his niche.
I can see your point, but he's only a sophomore and I'd rather Traore concentrate on rebounding and getting to the basket on offensive then chucking up 3's. JMO.
We need a player to help Owen on rebounding more then someone floating around the 3 point line and sadly so far Dembele has not fit that bill.
I have been a lifelong hawkeye fan, and love them, however, I dread listening to a mbb game called by Jess Settles, because he is so over the top in love with Fran and his team that it is sickening to listen to. He drools stupidity over Fran, and needs to take his iowa goggles off and be a bit more realistic and honest.
Agreed, I think in his earlier announcing days he was more objective, but of late he is really over the top pro Iowa. I think the BTN really just needs to step in and assign him other BT games…
