Payton was dealing with stuff outside of basketball

I was very critical of Payton after the MaryLand game, particularly his defense on the decisive drive by Young. He deserves credit for playing in game and stepping up to take blame after the game. His shooting will come and go, but he should be better on defense.

Fran McCaffery on Payton Sandfort's response against Michigan:

"I had no doubt that he would come back with an incredibly positive attitude. Because that’s who he is. He has tremendous character and a tremendous desire to be great. Any coach just loves the opportunity to watch a young guy come back from a tough one and a tough week, and do what he did on Saturday.”

Peyton also mentioned, when giving props to Freeman after the game, that he was also dealing with a lot of issue. I assume he was taking about losing his grandmother as well.

Sad to hear this. I was really close to my grampy gramps but was denied my leave request for his funeral. I was just lucky I still shot well enough to stay alive. Everyone mourns differently I guess.
