Why do they allow him to keep making new handles?

This is tough to read, the dad of the first officer has perspective from all angles here:

The father of one of the two pilots on board the plane that collided with the military helicopter told Fox 5 in Atlanta that he is grieving the death of his 28-year-old son, Sam Lilley.

"This is undoubtedly the worst day of my life," Timothy Lilley said.

Sam Lilley, of Savannah, Ga., was engaged and planned to get married in the fall, his father said.

Timothy Lilley described himself as a longtime former Army helicopter pilot who is familiar with the air traffic in the Washington, D.C., area.

"I was a helicopter pilot in the Army for 20 years. In the '90s, I used to fly in and out of the Pentagon regularly, and I can tell you if you are flying on the route over the Potomac and wearing night vision goggles, it's going to be very hard to see that plane. If you're not wearing the goggles, then you might have a chance," he said.

Investigators have yet to determine what caused the deadly collision. U.S. officials said that the helicopter was on a routine nighttime training mission and that the crew was equipped with night vision goggles, but it's unclear whether they were using them at the time of the incident.

“From what I can see, those guys turned right into the jet," Timothy Lilley said. "I think the PSA jet was doing everything right. The Army pilot made a grave error. It hurts me because those are my brothers, and now my son is dead.”

Never said commercial pilot for 50 years.

Worked in the private sector for at least 30 years as a pilot & aviation director

Pilots license at 16.

Still flys privately part time.

Well, that’s why I asked the question. Pretty impressive to have his pilot license by 16

Just spitballing here, but perhaps the shocking and jarring nature of some death scenarios has somethng to do with the way the public reacts. Not a matter of "more important".
Yes, I should probably clarify. Not really sure I communicated my intent in a clear enough fashion. Not so much more important but more significant. 120 people die each day in terrible car accidents that are probably equally tragic and gruesome yet we never think about it. I understand the rarity associated with a plane crash and the public reaction.

I am guessing all the airline and helicopter passengers died within 5 seconds of impact.

I hope they didn't suffer. :(

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby went viral this week after remarks he made in 2021 about the company’s diversity initiatives resurfaced. During an interview with Axios on HBO, Kirby said the company was committed to ensuring 50% of their graduating pilot classes would be women or people of color.

You're not pulling a more meritorious sample if you have to put in quotas. The priority criteria, but definition, are to meet the quota.

Can anyone explain the logic behind using night-vision goggles in an enclosed space within an environment that was undoubtedly well-lit? The idea that a pilot would willingly do something to restrict their field of vision like that is mindboggling to me.

Training?

Wokeness.

Maybe training in an urban environment.

Now the question of doing it in the landing path of one of the busiest airspace in the nation is certainly to be questioned if true.

Hey, mongoloid. You don't see the Army and Marines training in the cities. There was no reason for this training exercise to be taking place next to the airport.

Hard concept for you to understand, I know.

They do it all. the. time. there.

If there's an attack on D.C., they have to be trained to deal with that.
