Not a good start for Pitt. Gave up a 50+ yard run and just missed a field goal. Syracuse winning 7-3. Iowa really needs Pitt to keep winning.

I hope Pitt does well but Iowa needs to keep winning, they don't need Pitt to do anything.

Well duh... but if Iowa does keep winning, they'll need a strong non-conference win to make a case for the playoff committee. Pitt can be that win. Thus, Iowa needs a Pitt win along with the inherent need to win its own games.

The only thing on our resume that will matter will be the number of wins.

13 would get us in, period. Anything less and we're out.

It's that simple.

Pitt is 6-1 with a couple late field goals for wins. If they keep winning, it will be that "quality" non-conference win Iowa needs.

Came up big in the 4th quarter. Even so, if Pitt plays like they did today, they are going to drop a few.

Actually it's not just a matter of simple deduction. Is it really that simple if we end up with 4 or more undefeated teams this year? In the modern era, your resume matters. It would not shock me in the least to see a 12-1 Alabama sneak past a 13-0 Iowa. Or a few other scenarios.

There is no way an undefeated Big Ten team, even Iowa, will be excluded in that case. Remember, that would include a win over a top 10, or in the case of Ohio State, likely a top 1 or 2 ranked team in the country.

Pitt has pretty much a patchwork offense.. As a Pitt fan we are frustrated.. but Duzz has had a knack of changing things up at halftime.. When Conner went down.. it kind of changed the whole identity of the O. We were also missing our starting safeties today... Tough stretch for Pitt v UNC, Duke, ND, Louisville, and the Canes (not so tough)... I think we go 9-3.. and stay ranked about 20......Big rumor: James Conner may return for the ND game.

As long as the losses are to Notre Dame and Duke, I would agree with you. Still, it would be nice to see you folks pull off the upsets.

Well there can't be more than 5. 5 would be a miracle. Don't forget that under this hypothetical scenario, Iowa would be winning their final game against a team ranked #2 or #3 at worst.

Further, if we get passed Maryland I think many will be pleasantly surprised of how much the committee thinks of Iowa

Jesus guys, it doesn't hurt for Pitt to keep winning, and I think it's at least somewhat relevant, at the very least, if we do get to 13, it could help with seeding.

That is true. I never even really thought about seeding, although I guess if Iowa makes it, it really doesn't matter as any team they end up playing will be good.

I hope that you are right......but if you sit and think about it, can you tell me with 100% certainty that undefeated Utah, TCU, (or Baylor), Florida St. and a 1 loss SEC Champion Alabama don't get in over undefeated Iowa? Are you FOR SURE, because I am not.

Is it just me, or does the Carrier Dome look like a miserable place to play a football game?

It is a miserable hell to play in. It's called the Carrier Dome yet it doesn't have any air conditioning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is so hot and humid there that it stinks like a damp shoe!

Iowa needs to take 1 at a time, the odds of getting to the big ten final and beating OSU are slim anyway.

Don't care how they win or against who, they have been winning and we need that.

Iowa wants Pitt, Wisconsin, and Northwestern to keep winning, provided the Hawks keep winning. It also doesn't hurt if Illinois State keeps winning. Those may end up being the only ranked teams Iowa beats this season. At least until the Big Ten Championship. The more they win, the better we look.

Pitt. lost at home, there goes that quality non-conference win Iowa needed, now what ?

Win the rest of our games. Actually, that's all that ever matters. Even if Pitt were to win the rest of their games and end the season with one loss if Iowa were to lose somewhere down the line, they don't get in.
