Please retire Ferentz

It’s been passed him by. Like 10 years ago. FCS. Why don’t he just call it quits. He wants to stick around for yet another 7 or 8 win season whyyyyyyyy
They’ll be lucky to win 6 games with next year’s schedule. Oregon, Penn St, and Indiana at home. They got lucky with their schedule this year, but hiding in the Big 10 West days are over.

KFz went all-in trying to set up Brian as the next HC. It blew up in his face and put the program is a hole that's not easy to climb out of. It feels like this is not going to end well. Next year is going to be worse...much worse. The longer he stays the uglier it's going to get.

I guess he doesn’t have enough money and I guess he has no grandchildren to spend time with.
I suppose its like all the 80-90 year old politicians - that have oversized egos and think no one else could possibly replace their genius…..
It's not about the money. He enjoys the teaching and being around the players. Giving up driving a vehicle is hard when you get older even though you could be a detriment to someone else.

If Beth is really the AD they have to announce the succession plan this off season. To let KF at 70 just suspend Iowas future to his whim is unacceptable
Honest question, who exactly on this current staff would have the credentials of a P4 HC to succeed him? Hate to say it, but Iowa will have to pay up for an impact hire to create excitement within the fan base and thus see the potential for increased NIL donations. Good luck!

Winniest coach in big 10 history
To do this at Iowa is insane
He irritates me but he is a great coach.
Longevity itself does not make one a great coach.

Pat Fitzgerald won 110 games over 17 years at -of all places- Northwestern. He stays there another 12 years and he probably surpasses Woody Hayes also.

25 years and KF does not meet the minimum qualifications for a Hall of Fame nomination. It’s highly questionable that he ever will.

IMO Kirk’s career win total was exposed as illusory based on his more recent and highly embarrassing multiple blow-out losses to ranked opponents in the B10 championship game X2 and New Years bowl games.

Add in more recent regular season blowout losses to PSU and OSU and what you see is a program with declining success led by a long term coach with a mediocre career record. Quit.

Why would he retire?
agreed, no pressure to win and he can continue to bank his obscene salary for what he has accomplished. Any more he does not even have to have a team that can compete against the top ten teams. All is well with Iowa football under the guidance of the master, Ferentz.

You have to spend money to make money but KF ain’t going anywhere to protect this staff and his son in law from being out of jobs. KF wants another year with Lester to turn around the offense and he will get it and the record of most wins in the B1G for conference and non con games. It also must be noted that he has the most losses too.

Regarding next coach, hopefully in 2026, if UNC can hire Bill Belichek, Beth can pick up the phone and inquire if any interest from Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer, or Nick Saban. I can see one of those coaches having interest in the position with Iowa’s resources and patience with the ability to pay a head coach of their abilities to make Iowa a play off contender right away. Worse case, they all say no and offer their recommendation for the new head coach. I’m just ready for change with KF and his philosophy of coaching not to lose games.

The test of time is the most difficult test. Just ask the husker coaches. Lol. Also to retain the best d coordinators and special teams coaches is not easy. To keep kids for bowl games and out of the portal is not easy.

We don't live in the "if " world. Fitzgerald will not pass the test of time.

Coaches are still graded on their record of success no matter the length of time.

Also, time spent at one school is highly dependent upon that school’s expectations. It’s fair to say that Iowa is unusually tolerant of mediocrity in comparison to most other major programs.

Retaining good position coaches is a good trait but matters only in regards to success. Big game losses are still losses. And the opposite also applies: stubbornly retaining the worst OC in college football several years running - his son, no less, is a very bad trait.

Keeping players for bowl games is not a standard of success, winning bowl games is…… and didn’t the biggest impact player this year, Kaleb Johnson, opt out?

I hope nebraska continues to keep hiring coaches every 2 years. Lol

Cignetti is getting $9 mil/yr after bonus, the 3 coaches you mention aren’t taking ANY job for less than $10 mil. Iowa AD got the green light from the Regents for that kind of spending? I’d be shocked . I agree, KF will be able to walk away on his terms though.

C’mon. A couple dozen home wins over mid-majors, the Western Michigans and Nevadas of Division 1 football, is not going to mask being out scored 68-3 by Michigan in Big Ten Conference Championship games….or losing 35-0 to Tennessee in the Citrus Bowl.

You have staked your entire KF argument on total wins but even an idiot would recognize that an argument based total wins alone and not subject to scrutiny is lazy and disingenuous.
