Some comments on the Sammys:

If Brooks can wrestle every match at NCAAs like the Taylor match, he'll be wrestling Saturday night. That may have been the best match he's wrestled this year. Incredible intensity by Brooks for the entire match. He hooked up with Taylor right off the whistle and his physical style definitely made Taylor uncomfortable. Taylor won the scrambles with his length and superior scrambling abilities, but Brooks gave him everything he had and surprised me how well he wrestled when Taylor was on top - Taylor is a beast on top. A 7-2 loss to Taylor is very respectable. After that great match against Taylor, Sammy came out a bit flat his next couple matches which is not surprising. It didn't help that he had a rematch for 3/4 with Zilmer. Seems like rematches in a tourney can go the other way quite often. Sammy will be fine as long as he stays healthy and wrestles with high intensity.

Stoll is doing great for a redshirt freshman at 285. He's improved tons since last season. However, he really needs to improve his mat wrestling or he won't be AA this year. The Maryland wrestler should have beaten Sammy. Sammy got ridden for about 2 1/2 minutes in the first period. He couldn't get out of the leg ride from the 6'8" Maryland hwt, Then, either Sammy or the coaches made a stupid decision and chose down for second period, and Sammy got ridden for another two minutes. 4 1/2 minutes riding time, so you would assume the Maryland hwt would take TOP, but the Maryland coaches returned the favor with another stupid decision - the Maryland wrestler chose DOWN for 3rd period! Sammy took advantage of the opportunity and ended up winning the match in the end. He was lucky to win this match. The Maryland hwy is tough on top since he's so long, but Sammy needs to be much stronger on the bottom and be able to get to his feet or he could lose to a lot of the borderline AA heavies.

If BS can get a takedown on Zain R. don't take down on him. Was good enough for Steebler so that says to me should be good enough for Brandon.

I am hoping things will be different at 149. The way Sorenson gets out quickly and efficiently from bottom I would not be afraid to go under. Stoll definitely has some work to do underneath. So does Meyer.

Sorensen got ridden a couple times last year and he got turned by the Rutgers kid at midlands. I would not advise taking down on vs Retherford in a key match without having been there and done that vs him. That leg lock ride they let him get away with is a bitch to get out of.

Yes Zainn rode Logan S. in the first match reason Logan never took down on him again.
Its kinda like whjy did Molina sp take down in finals with Dake got rode out.

There's no reason going under Zain. He's one of the best riders in the last decade. I guess u can try once at B10s if they meet. But if the first match is at NCAAs no way jose

Sorensen got ridden badly against Missouri last year.
Sorenson needs to be #1 seed at NCAA since Tsirtsis and Retherford are so tough. That means if there's any doubt BS could be ridden all period in a match, he should not choose down. Points are so hard to score against some of these guys that a riding time point w/o escape could be the difference

Sam has advanced his folkstyle skills greatly. During the 3rd period of the Gwiz match someone was yelling, "Stoll Go to the Body!" In Sam's last match he wrestled a real solid folkstyle victory but to me what I saw is something clicked in the Peck match where he realized his only chance was to take the advice, "Stoll Go to the Body". And at that point I don't think it would have mattered whether Peck was hurt previously or not. Is it not the fear of being thrown that causes opponents to back out, get off balance, setting up the ability to change levels and score traditional take downs. His opponents must continue to fear being thrown and knowing it's gonna hurt. Once he was down an unsurmountable score from Gwiz I was really hoping he would go upper body, at that point there was nothing to lose.

After watching Iowa at the Midland's, the EYEBALL test tells me Iowa is A WAYS from title contention IMO. And then I look at the Southern Scuffle pre-seeds and I contend there might be even a greater distance than I originally thought in regards to a NATIONAL TEAM TITLE. My concerns swirl around the question mark at 141, the inconsistencies of 174 and 184, and the lacking holes at 157 and 165.

Here's my take at this point in the season
125-Top 4, BANK IT!
133-Top 4, if healthy
141- the weakest weight in the country. If Grothus is healthy, a Top 8 is certainly not out of the ?
149-Top 4, BANK IT!
157- NO AA
165 -NO AA
174- NO AA, Cody Walters embarrassed him. IMO he's a RD 12 guy RIGHT NOW
184- Top 8, This may be generous?
197- Top 4, BANK IT!
Hwt- Top 6

Iowa is a much better DUAL team than TOURNAMENT team!!

141 IS NOT the weakest weight. Its probably the deepest weight in the country and while there is no Ringer at the top, there is a lot of quality. Looking at the opens, I think there are more 141 pounders than any weight. Contrast that with HWT where maybe you get 30% of the same numbers. IMHO 133 is no doubt weaker. Gullibon would have been a top 133 guy but moves up and is doing much worse at 141.
