Pride unity flag in my kid's classroom! So much HBOT fodder...

Because you only see it through your lens. Will you at least acknowledge that others view it as political and/or distinctly sexually themed? And therein lies the rub. A controversial symbol being placed in a school setting.
And some people view the American flag as political. Likewise with the Pledge of Allegiance. Why aren't you and the others who are worked up over this calling for the removal of those symbols?

Christ taught his followers to "go forth and SHOW love". I'd say this teacher get's Christ message and your kid has a very good teacher.

“Jesus strongly warns his followers against pride and teaches that true greatness comes from humility and service, not self-exaltation. He calls the proud ‘blind’ and makes it clear God opposes them.”

How do I reply rationally to such an idiotic post? You're an imbecile.

I accept that you concede the point.

It is shocking to me that some may not have ever considered the exclusionary nature of the political movement that flag represents.

One might say idiotically inconsiderate.

What if he had a back the blue flag in his classroom? I'm sure this discussion would be much different on here...
Doubt it would.

“Jesus strongly warns his followers against pride and teaches that true greatness comes from humility and service, not self-exaltation. He calls the proud ‘blind’ and makes it clear God opposes them.”
Which translation does that come from?

Why does it have to be a political flag? It’s not like it is a Harris campaign poster. Very likely the teacher is letting the gay kids in the school know they have an ally. Apparently the school is a private Christian school. I imagine some gay kids might feel ostracized in that type of environment.

Oh the horror of a teacher who cares about those kids.
This is where I fall. Middle school is awful for all kids. Especially awful for lgbtq kids. I have to believe that it is even worse in a religious school. I would actually be surprised if this teacher does anything other than hang the flag as a way to let kids know that he is a safe person should they need support.

Back to school night at my kid's school, 7th grade. Private "Christian" School.

My wife attended with my 7th grader, and all the parents met in the English teacher's room, where he'd hung a flag like this one:

progress-pride-flag.jpg

My take is split:
My view against: How does this help the teacher teach 7th grade English better? How is it that I learned English without ever knowing the political or social views of my teachers.
This is unprofessional and inappropriate for the classroom. IMO there's no place for this, or maga flags, etc. In schools. The exception would be if a civics/social studies teacher had multiple flags of all sorts representing many viewpoints as fodder for discussion, etc.

My view for: My kid is going to be exposed to multiple viewpoints forever, and he needs to learn to work together with people of all kinds. Middle School is a reasonable time to start expanding those views understand things from multiple perspectives. This teacher is going to share things from a perspective he won't get at home, yet we'll have a chance to field those questions that arise from whatever influence/indoctrination this teacher tries (BTW the teacher isn't gay/trans/etc. He's a white male in his 40s married with boys the same age as mine. This is just virtue signaling).

What say you HBOT? Should I speak up to the school? Say anything? Or just kind of let it play out? What would YOU do?

The people who created the symbol have been very explicit about what it means and it most definitely is not intended as "sexual" or "political." It is a symbol advocating tolerance.

It seems absurd to me that that message has to be prohibited because some people don't take the symbol's creators at their word.

From the linked article in post #17:

But even though I’m proud to be gay, you won’t find me at any rallies this June. The Pride movement has been hijacked by a left-wing agenda, and some of its advocacy is actually setting gay people back.

A quick look at the national Pride website reveals not a neutral agenda advocating for all gay people, but a blatant endorsement of progressivism — even on issues that have little to do with gay rights. Advocate.com, a news website affiliated with the Pride movement, contains a glowing profile of gun-control advocate Emma Gonzalez on its homepage, even nominating her for their “Hall of Fame.” Another article openly calls on gay people to “fight for gun reform.”

LOL, one's personal pride.

Jeus hung out with whores, gamblers, thieves, cripples and other "undesirables" of his time and said they deserved love and tolerance. That is the core message of Christianity. He also said regardless of their sins, if they believed in him, they would be resurrected.

At least that's what I was taught in my Catholic grad school.
He didn’t say they deserved tolerance, he told them to put down their sin and follow him. WTF. Where do people get this?

When one of my kids was in middle school, a teacher put up Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears flags in his room. Since this was in MN…he was trolling all the Viking fans. I got a chuckle out of that.

Perhaps, because it’s a way, hopefully, to unite ALL Americans (not just a single group)?

Why, because he was gay? Are you REALLY straight? I think you may need to take a deep look inside yourself if the only person you feel you can trust is a gay teacher.🤨
Holy shit you’re retarded. PFLAG stands for Parents and Friends of Gays and Lesbians. The guy had a wife and family but was putting it out there that he wasn’t there to judge. One can be straight and not be a total dick.

One can also be a total closet case and flip out about gay things every opportunity they get. Like you do.

Mathew 7:1 - 7:2
Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Luke 6:27 - Luke 6:36
But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

I love those passages. Loving your enemy doesn’t mean telling them to keep sinning, or to promote sin. You can a love a person while not supporting their sin. I love my cousin who has a drinking problem. I would tell him alcohol is bad, love you cuz, if you need anything or anyone to talk to, I’m here for you. It wasn’t, yeah Josh, go get hammered buddy. I’m not condemning, I’m just not not promoting. In the same way, I would attend a gay wedding, but would not want my church to perform gay marriage. To each his own. You also didn’t address the putting down the sin part.

I personally don’t believe being gay is a sin. So “putting down the sin” doesn’t come into play for me when it comes to sexual orientation.

We are probably just going to agree to disagree on this. You obviously think homosexuality is a sin. I don’t. I also don’t believe the entire world flooded, that Noah put two of every animal on his boat or that the world was created in a handful of days. We all choose what parts of the Bible is literal, what parts are figurative and what parts are just archaic stories Jewish elders told their flock.

So, ALL Americans should be forced to believe in the lifestyles of LGBTQ individuals?
Unsurprising that you would go to this extreme.

Accepting of lifestyles other than your own is unifying. I am not religious but I completely accept the lifestyle chosen by those who are.

BTW - how would a flag force you to "believe in the lifestyles of LGBTQ individuals"?

It's a mental disease though. Much less of a mental illness than trans though. Since when did the gheys have to get lumped in with the trans people. I've spoke to a few gheys who don't really like that team trans has been placed on their bench.
Being gay is not a mental disease.

Sucks you have to deal with that crap. Not sure if anyone would know what that flag is at our kids' private school. School does not hire gays or any man that is not married with at least one kid. They keep the creeps out. It's totally worth the money for private schools to have teachers that are top notch and zero bullshit.
