Putting el dub and 98lber on "ignore"

I'm sorry 100% of all cops have taken the Hitler course of law enforcement and are set on continuing the legacy. Get a life. Look at the FBI findings. The race that were killed by police the most were white people.

Nice strawman. But yes, white people have very often been the victims of police brutality. That is a fact.

Sinclair Lewis has been dead since 1951. 72 years later and his prediction has not come true. I would call that a "FAIL".

If you think America is somehow exceptional and immune from the downfalls of other countries and empires, you're extremely naive. The reality is that we're closer to the downfall of democracy now than at any point since the civil war. If every American citizen was as apathetic to upholding the constitution and democracy as you and your fellow GQP cultists, a dictatorship would've been established already.

I think that your shared prediction from Sinclair Lewis is a total FAIL. Yes, America is falling apart. Something about 33 trillion and growing fast has a lot to do with it. It is getting where you can hardly go shopping anymore. Things are locked up because of the liberal woke mobs like to trash and steal.

Plenty of shared blame on 33 trillion. Politicians don’t hold our best interests at heart.

He didn't just want an investigation. He wanted to overturn the results. Comparing the audit after Al Gore Bush is insanely disingenuous. You just can't be taken seriously and have absolutely no credibility when you make outrageous statements like that.
Hey cultist nutjob, Al Gore wanted the election overturned too. Of course they wanted the election overturned. DUH!!! That is why you request an investigation. Have you no brain activity? I think I will call you a "cultist nutjob" from now on. You seem to be fond of saying that. :)

Show me where Al Gore organized a rally the day of the electoral votes certification and told his rabid followers they have to fight like hell or they won't have a country anymore and that they need to march to the capitol to "stop the steal" and interrupt the electoral certification process and that he'd be marching to the capitol with them.

Show me where Al Gore told the sitting VP to reject the electoral votes and then called him a coward and pointed blame at the VP leading to the rabid mob of his cultists attempting to hang the VP.

Show me where Al Gore called a state election official asking them to "find" the exact number of votes needed to win in that state and madr coercive threats to that person.

Show me where Al Gore had a team of lawyers devising a plan to throw out thousands of ballots that favored their opponent.

Show me where Al Gore's white house strategist/campaign strategist said on recording "Al Gore is going to reject the election results and claim the democrats stole it."

Show me where Al Gore tweeted on a daily basis for 3 years following the election claiming the election was stolen.

Show me where Al Gore was indicted for felony charges for attempting to overturn election results.

Show me where the sitting joint chiefs of staff (the highest ranking military leaders) had to put out a statement saying they would uphold the constitution and that Al Gore did not in fact win the election and that they wouldn't support any Al Gore coup attempt.

You are a brainwashed by right wing propaganda and right wing politicians who are lying to you that "Trump was just asking questions and wanted an investigation". He explicitly attempted to overturn a free and fair democratic election to install himself as dictator.

You and anyone still supporting or defending Trump deserves contempt and ridicule. You're going down with a ship that you should've jumped off years ago. You are on the wrong side of history.

al gore WAS the sitting VP when those election results came through the Senate for certification

he could have refused to certify the results - THE THING TRUMP STILL SAYS PENCE SHOULD HAVE DONE- but he didn't.

al gore did what all candidates do...use the legal ways to look at/challenge the close races. When that failed, he stopped and accepted the results. And that's the difference...trump didn't stop and he still hasn't accepted the results.

Comparing gore (or really any past candidate) and trump is desperate straw grasping that only resonates with people who don't know anything or just want to minimize anything bad related to trump (or both)

Not only did Trump not stop. Trump went beyond legal means and committed crimes in the attempt to overturn the results. Completely indefensible and requires absolute condemnation. Lock him up.

Dick Nixon tried to ship me to 'Nam. He failed.
I thought i would never see a worse, more authoritarian excuse for a president.
Was I ever wrong; King Orange the career white collar criminal and dictator wannabe makes Nixon look almost like a statesman.

Can't ignore eldub and 98 as we need counters to the likes of the Twister from Texas.

I started off as a good labor Democrat, then lost my way in the Republican/Fascist/Right Wing Religious mix. I finally found my way out of that cult. I know how they think. That agglomeration would boot Jesus Christ out the door for being a Liberal. (Read Matthew 5:1-12)
Sinclair Lewis was correct. I would add that Trump is the main symptom of the Far Right Worldview disease.

Thank you for taking the time to lay that out, Doc. Trump is only a symptom. He made saying the nasty shit out loud acceptable in some circles.

It takes a strong moral compass to admit we’re wrong. Congrats on your personal growth.

I just feel bad that I wasted 30 years that way.
I am still an Evangelical, but one that actually believes Matthew 7:12.

Growth isn’t easy, Doc. Hats off to you.
Thanks.

What it comes to, since this is essentially a political thread, is that I CANNOT support a political movement that approves of balancing the budget on the backs of the poor and the sick, yet can grant tax breaks to billionaires.

The gap between the Haves and the Have Nots is the worst I have ever seen and I am 73 years old.

I know a lot of younger people, younger families, that are struggling to get by in the world's richest economy. I know what I see and it is not right. My blood boils when I hear people say that all those people have to do is pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Like working multiple jobs to get by isn't enough. The GOP is/was/always be the party of the Haves.

My Gurus are Sen. Bernie Sanders, Nobel Prize winning economist Robert Reich, and Rev. Tony Campolo. THEY get the reality of life for the working poor. I wish people would listen to them.

You lost me at Bernie Sanders. Time and time again it is proven that socialism and communism simply do not work. You think we have have and have nots now? Great for politicians and bad for the general populace.

You’re labeling people something that isn’t quite accurate. Putting people before corporate interests isn’t really socialism. It’s just not corporatism, which is really our systems main focus. For instance, most every other industrialized nation in the world has universal health care for its people. That’s not socialism. It’s just putting people before corporate (insurance industry) interests.

But the insurance industry has done a good job through lobbying government officials and putting out propaganda against universal health care to the point that a big percentage of our population would rather go broke paying medical bills rather than adopt a more humane system that bypasses the insurance industry.
One positive from this thread is that I may have a new 73 year old sympatico in @Iron Doc. So thanks for that @texas twister.
Right? I was thinking the same thing.

At the end of the day, I am for whatever party/politician does the most for America's poor/sick/working poor. Also, obviously I am against ANY party/politician that works to/votes for cutting the Societal Safety Net. I like to think Jesus (his own words) is too.

Right? I can’t figure out how anyone can read about the deeds and words of Jesus and come up with any other message than what you lay out above, Doc. Those are the morals I glean from the Bible.

If you don't think Bernie Sanders deep down does not seek communist principles you are completely uniformed. Stay on topic here - show me an example of where socialism and/or communism worked for the people? That is what I said when you said I was "labeling people" and I want you to prove me wrong. How did it work for the Russians in the early 1900's? How about the Chinese who were starved to death or the Venezuelans? Just remember, unicorns aren't actually real and ferries don't fart magical pixie dust.

It always amazes me that liberals want big government and it having more control over our lives. You think corporate America is bad? Big government and its "programs" (see welfare) yearns for dependency from the people. It's what keeps them in power. Give the rubes a few morsels and they will keep voting us in. Moronic.

the people who think everyone to the left of the republican party is a communist thinks a person to the left of the republican party is a communist

they say or said the same thing about hillary clinton and joe biden...it is an completely meaningless designation at this point. it basically just means "that person is to the left of the people I like"

Plain and simple Bernie Sanders is WAY TO THE LEFT, probably can't get much further to the left.

II Thes. 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
I'm all for a safety net. I just think it is over done and rewarding the lazy.

BOTH parties have always wanted to help the poor/sick/working poor. The problem is they both extremely disagree on how/how much/at whose expense.

When it comes to the physically/mentally disabled and aged, instead of fighting over Universal Healthcare, we should have fixed Medicaid and Medicare to clearly be defined to take care of them until they no longer need it.

How to address the poor and working poor who are of able body and mind to work is where both sides seem to disagree the most. However, clearly separating them from the above at least narrows the differences down considerably. You can at least have a reasonable discussion as to how to get them work and keep them working. You can also at least start to discuss how long you supplement or subsidize to get them there and where those monies should come from.

At some point you have to incentivize them to become self sufficient while also, at some point, there needs to be a cut off or “punishment” when/if they refuse to do so. The hardest part of it all is agreeing on what those should be and where the money and time comes from to make it all happen.

It's a hell of a juxtaposition.
20% of the federal budget is steered toward welfare programs.
The top 1% own 33% of the nation's total wealth.
These are both problems, but one of these stats is a direct cause of the other.

Both bad. Big government AND Big Corporations. Both want to control everything.
