I’ll DM youBest place to get slab crack in East Moline? Asking for a friend.
I will bite on this. The Front Street Brewery just re-opened. Is the food still good, did they change the interior?
Do you live on Amesbury? I used to live a block off it when I went to high school csb.Saw some squirrels on the side of the road on Amesbury so keep an eye out for them.
Tried the new barbecue place in LeClaire called What BBQ - it was quite bad. The short ribs were cooked OK, but the sauce was mediocre. And all the sides were horrible - tasted like they dumped raw sugar into the baked beans and the potato salad.Hoping a thread dedicated to the QC and surrounding areas make sense. Would be interested to hear of any new places to eat/drink, things to do, terribe pizza reviews, etc.
I am a big fan of Hemispheres. I recommend the lamb. (It's quite expensive, but oh-so-good).Hemispheres is often said to have the best food in the QC. What is the best value or best thing on their menu?
Squire Drive, represent! That was where I lived for the 2 years I went to BHS.Do you live on Amesbury? I used to live a block off it when I went to high school csb.

Did you just call yourself a poor?I am a big fan of Hemispheres. I recommend the lamb. (It's quite expensive, but oh-so-good).
Expensive place. Dinner for two can easily run $200 if you get a bottle of wine and a dessert.Did you just call yourself a poor?
Plymouth "drive". it is block and a half long. Apparently, I have run past your old house hundreds of times.Squire Drive, represent! That was where I lived for the 2 years I went to BHS.
No, I can afford to eat at Hemisphere. Just thought I'd warn others who aren't men of means.Did you just call yourself a poor?
Of course I know you are a man of means. I looked it up and they must have changed things up as the menu shows the lamb is 35 or 36 and including two sides. Looks interesting will give it a try some time. http://hemispheresbistro.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Hemispheres-Bistro-Dinner-Menu-100919.pdfNo, I can afford to eat at Hemisphere. The lamb is $28 and that is with no sides - which is pretty high dollar for the QC dining scene.
I think Hemispheres is consistently the best higher end dining you can get in the QC.Of course I know you are a man of means. When visiting family we haven't gone to too many nice places recently, and the one we used to got to closed (red crow grille). We went to the Bix Bistro recently with mixed results. The steak was really good but the "presidential pork chop" was hideously overcooked. It is also the first time I recall being charged for ice in a drink (bombay sapphire on the rocks charged $3 for the rocks). We did Ruthie's at the Rhythm City casino and that was pretty good. Steventons is okay. I would like to try some of the places you suggested.I think Hemispheres is consistently the best higher end dining you can get in the QC.
Duck City Bistro probably a close second, and they too often have a pretty unique menu.
Bass Street Chop House is very high quality, but it is a carbon copy of any other fancy steakhouse restaurant you've been to, so loses points for originality.
A place that I think has gone downhill, but still gets lots of crowds, is Steventon's. My folks are regulars there, but I haven't had a good meal there in ages. I think they're half-assing it.
Honorable Mention for fine dining from me is Crane & Pelican. First of all- the atmosphere is probably my fave in the QC. It is in a former River Pilot's mansion on top of the hill in LeClaire that also later was a funeral home. You really feel like you are eating dinner in a 19th century rich person's private home, kind of cool. The menu is very unique - so some stuff is outstanding and other stuff is merely OK. But I always have a great time there.
I like Ruthie's - surprisingly nice atmosphere. And that would be a HELL of a view if it was overlooking anything other than a long strip of flat Interstate 80, lol. When visiting family we haven't gone to too many nice places recently, and the one we used to got to closed (red crow grille). That looks fantastic. And yes, it was a large party so I was looking at the bill to see if gratuity was included and in doing so it just happened to catch my eye. I said to the server it's not a big deal but asked if they really charge $3 for ice. She said yes and that most places do they just don't show it on the bill. To which I thought bullf&ckingsh*t but didn't say anything else because it is the restaurant not her doing it.I like Ruthie's - surprisingly nice atmosphere. My biggest issue with Bix Bistro is it feels like you're eating IN the hotel lobby. It is not very intimate or comfortable at all. And charging you for rocks?! WTactualF!? That's a deal breaker.
You definitely need to hit up Crane & Pelican if you haven't eaten there before. It's got to be the most unique restaurant in the QC and the food is solid.

Oh man, that is almost sort of ringing a bell, but I can't for the life of me remember the name. Also, you and others have a long history with dining in the quads. There was a place we went to about 20 years ago that I think was in Davenport but it could have been in Bettendorf towards the border, kind of down close to the river, that was pretty much in an old house. It was really good and the people we went with have super high standards. Like ridiculous standards. And I thought of it because they did lamb chops which he always ordered. I can't remember the name.
It might have been kind of by the outing club or maybe it was a side room of the outing club. This would have been about 25 years ago and I would have been a passenger in the car and kind of along for the ride so I don't remember all of the details.Oh man, that is almost sort of ringing a bell, but I can't for the life of me remember the name.
Another great-but-now-gone fine dining place was La Figaro in downtown Rock Island. Legitimately first-rate French cuisine, which you cannot get in the Quads anymore.

By god I think that was it!Christie's in the East Village?
I forgot the name, but there absolutely was a fine dining place in one of those little historic houses in the Village. That must be it. Nice call!Christie's in the East Village?
I found this old article and this describes it perfectly: "CHRISTIE'S, 2207 E. 12th St., Village of East Davenport. Fresh Maryland crabcakes, seafood, veal, lamb and more, coupled with handmade sauces in a charming framehouse setting. 323-2822."Christie's in the East Village?

Outside of the QC but I went to Potter's Mill in Bellevue over the weekend. That place is pretty awesome
Is he thinking of that place in the Village that did French food? Great food, Husband and wife that ended up divorced. They owned the bakery on Locust St. across from Sudlow as well, then she converted it into a sandwich place but has since sold it. It is still going though. Also, you and others have a long history with dining in the quads.
