My take now that you ask is most likely Carl is in the #1 spot Dake is #2 as of right now. This is based on the best College wrestlers of my time, Im 51 and not including international success. I also would put a few of the old timers like Gable, Uetake and Hodge in the top 5 also before Stiebler and Smith. Where those older guys would rank is debatable but to not include them because it was over 30+ years ago would be criminal. Some forget there was 3 times as many wrestling programs back then.

And they were not eligible to wrestle varsity as freshmen. They only had 3 years of eligibility.
