It's kind of bonkers that the true crime podcast Over My Dead Body has four seasons, and two are from Tallahassee, given how small the town is. The first season was this case, and the fourth season is the Mike and Denise Williams case.

And the most interesting/perplexing case is the Sims murders from 1967, which is a real rabbit hole.

Add in the Bundy cameo, and Tallahassee has to be up there in weird true crime per capita.

Christopher Wilder, the Beauty Queen Killer, who went on a cross country murder spree in 1984 made a stop in Tallahassee. The owner of Malone’s, where I worked in 88 & 89, said Wilder sat at the bar for several days trying to pick up the very attractive bartender but did not succeed. He ended up kidnapping, torturing but not killing an employee from Ruby Tuesday’s across the street.

They have no idea how many girls he killed in Australia before moving to the US. It is believed to be many. His spree in 1984 was unreal. He went from Florida to Nevada, killing along the way. Then he went back east to Indiana, Pennsylvania and then then NH. He did all of this while being on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list and there being a nationwide manhunt for him.

Live commentary by YT lawyer. I listened to one of his videos reviewing the opening statements in this case and he is pretty good

Update - YT lawyer is an FSU law school grad. He was in law school when Dan Markel was murdered.

Day 7 - Cross examination

Georgia Cappleman did a very bad job cross examining the brother. Tim Jansen is hammering her. He said it is not unusual for prosecutors to not do well in cross examination because so few defendants testify.

Don’t be surprised if the brother walks on a hung jury.

The various lawyer/court shows on YT have all commented about a single juror who keeps nodding his head, seemingly in agreement, as the brother has testified.

Tim J just said that unless Georgia Cappleman blows away her closing arguments, he won’t be surprised if one or two jurors hold out. He says it is very unlikely that he gets a not guilty verdict.

Tim J thinks, at this moment, that it is 50/50 for a hung jury.

At the end of the live stream, another lawyer who was in the gallery, said that thinks the mother will soon be charged and if there is a hung jury for the brother, they will be charged and tried together. No way she will be as smooth as the brother on the stand. Tim J agreed and mentioned that he thought that was a possibility.

Here is a good example of Georgia Cappleman fumbling the cross examination. Tim J said she should have had the judge instruct the brother to only give yes/no answers. Instead she let him him give lengthy rehearsed answers.
