On Flowrestling Radio Live show this morning Willie mentioned a RUMOR of Tony Ramos heading to West Virginia to train and get paid by senior level organization Sunkist! As Willie mentioned 10x it's a rumor he heard over the weekend but still surprised me. Hopefully he sticks with the HWC bc he's gotta be great for the room and recruits walking through the door!

Also Willie mentioned Evans looking to get into an asst coaching position somewhere.

IMO Ramos would be about the last person you would want to go somewhere else.

The only comparision I can make to this is my career as a surgeon (takes a lot of long term training). Sometimes you have to leave a place and go somewhere else to see how things are done differently and learn different approaches. Tony may have got what he needed out of Iowa since he has been here for such a long time. Sometime it is just time to move on. Of course wrestling partners are important. I don't know what WVU has to offer. Sometimes it is just monetary support. He is of course an important member of the room, but as I like to say for the former Hawks/now national team members.....What ever is best for the country/best for the sport.

That wouldn't benefit Ramos, as there would be a video review during practice to see if Ramos locked his hands...

If this is a money move, then sad. Not on Tony's part, but on the part of the HWC's inability to pay him what others can.

If this is a wrestling move, then maybe he's just trying to get away from McD while they are competing at the same weight.

I have no idea, but I hope it's not true.

From Tony...

@T_Ram133: Hey everyone I have had no contact with WV and I also do not wrestle for Sunkist so the rumors can be put to rest. #Hawkeyes

Sounds good to me but the reality is Hawks can't keep all the greats in house. Tony will probably make a great coach someday and the man has to support his family. Enjoy the ride while we got him here working for Olympic gold

What we all really need to remember in the end is, Tony will always be a Hawk and Willie will always be a pussy. Just sayin...

I really don't know if Willie did anything THAT wrong other than trusting his source a lil too much. He mentioned numerous times it was a rumor. The truth is Tony will head off and create a program that reflects his talents; if he chooses to do so. The man needs to take care of his family and I'll never fault him or any other Hawkeye for that. Once a Hawkeye always a Hawkeye. Glad Tony is sticking it out and hopefully him winning gold in 2016 gets him a great coaching gig in the future!

I bet willie is wrong on evans to looking to get a assistant job somewhere.

Maybe Willie is trolling the Iowa fan base for the booing Stroker received. They are homeboys after all.

This has some truth as I visited with his parents at Hawk social at nationals and they did mention that he was thinking of that some.

If Evans is looking, turn the other way. morningstar, lofthouse and evans. None of them has taken a shot since the 90's, get over them. Hire tough coaches you'll have tough wrestlers. PSU gets 2 finalist back this year and both OSU's had great recruiting. We're done for the rest of the decade. Get Perry and Ironside and we have a chance, this crowd and we're in 4/5 for the the rest of the decade. We don't have tough guys because we don't have tough coaches!! Speak up or deal with it.

Nice 15th post. We look forward to having your excellent insight on this board for years to come.

I put a snarky post in reply to the tough guy thing.
Decided against it.

Dude, lighten up. this is a message board. Your opinions are welcome and, like all opinions, valid.
Your coming off combative and defensive. If you are a high level guy as your last message suggests, you could be a welcome and insightful member. That would be great. If your deal is just to throw your manliness around then don't waste your time. Ignore will be a popular button or you will end up in pissing contests that just take up threads or end up banned.

Just lighten up. In all seriousness, I would like to hear about your match with Gable.

Not trying to be a jerk. I am trying to be helpful.

With the way Freestyle is being wrestled, Mike might do OK. Tough weight but his style is closer to many of the internationals. His offense is not what we would typically root for but he makes few mistakes on his feet. He can hand fight with the best of them which could turn into push outs. On top he can be a beast.
Long shot on making the team but I applaud anyone going for the dream.

Well...I once banged a nurse who changed Gable's bedpan during one of his hip replacements.

Enough. Not making excuses but Mike and Nick were wrestling injured most of the year. Very happy with Mikes dedication and finding a way to win with adversity. Mike is one tough cookie and couldn't be prouder.

Three time all-american, bad ass Stache, and all I got at the NCAA tournament was a T-Shirt. BTW, you should know that most all of us love Mike.

Mike is an awesomely m kid. Got to spend time with him a lot this year. Had a great talk with him and his parents at the okie match.
He is nothing what most people think. Smart, tough and kind. I like him. Hope he does well.

Point well taken 255. Just reacted to not being taken seriously because I don't have MM posts. Doesn't mean I haven't been reading. I posted somewhere a couple of years ago that Matt and Derek were used up and wouldn't win in '13 and '14 and was run off that blog as well. I had season tics K5 1-4 for 15 years then gave them up when we continued to recruit good wrestlers not tough wrestlers. Just look at Tomasello, moisey, brewer, heil and MARTINEZ, jordans or synder. These are tough guys that don't know they are suppose to lose to Iowa. I just want to get back to '97 championship, except this time Mena takes neutral(as coach told him) and wins the thing, we end up with 174.

Tomasello and Heil both lost to Hawkeye wrestlers this year. Heil by pin.

I do think they had the last laugh tho.

Hi. I appreciate what Mike did during his time at Iowa.

I recall Mike had a sleeve on his leg real early in the year which concerned me at the time. He ended up getting on a good roll though but I thought just after the Okie State match (in which he looked awesome) he seemed not quite right and I noticed he hardly ever used legs on anyone later in the year. Obviously you don't have to answer but I was curious if he got hurt or aggravated his injury soon after Okie State.

Not arguing that but Mr. Close Loss is making it sound like we didn't belong on the mats with the likes of those guys.

Out of that list DHM gave, the two that stick out are Martinez and Jordan. Brewer is an interesting one...finished 8th last year and 7th in 2013. Nothing special...then went through this season and the tourney with his hair on fire. Snyder could end up a three timer, or he could end up with none. I don't think Kelly or Nick inspired too much fear in Martinez or Jordan.

BTW, Snyder also lost to Burak.

I hear you on mena. In gables book, between the lines, I got the feeling the relationship was not real good that season. Almost like Gable was saying "your so smart, you figure it out"

I understand your point on coaches. Been reading a lot of post on it. I think Morningstar is a better coach than people give him credit. I think a change in strength is critical. Mike is a great room guy. When I saw him in practice he was shooting and was fun to watch. I did not know about an injury but I think the real problem he had was he was a "tweener ". To small for 174 and a hard cut to 165. Not big and strong enough to really open up. Not a educated statement just a thought. Either way, having him in the room with Ramos and the others can help.
