With the possible offers to either Te'jon Lucas or Bohannon does Fran feel his chances with Moore or Simpson are fading?

It may be a s..t or get off the pot message to Moore. After the last water bug point guard from Chicago that we recruited McCaffery might not feel like waiting around this time. It could also mean that the staff feels that comfortable with Williams that a two year juco, or a kid likely to be a good backup point guard in the Big Ten AND stick around (local kid like Bohannon), seems like the smart move. We can't play thirteen guys. These days recruiting someone you know will transfer if they don't see starting as a future possibility seems like a waste of time.

So, we offer a Juco that Iowa State has offered, that Wichita State has offered?

We might offer Bohannon and he comes in as a frosh, from just around twenty-five miles away?

Or maybe the Wisconsin kid, can't think of his name, who is already getting other Big Ten offers and has many Big Ten schools looking at him?

I'd love to have Moore as a Hawkeye. BUT. I'm not too worried about whether we get Moore or not, if Groce doesn't improve Illini results he might not be there to coach Moore anyway.

So. Mr. Moore, s..t or get off the pot. You don't want to see this sign:

Do we really know if Moore is even our true #1 target at PG? If he is, Then it does seem that Fran is not going to get caught in the same situation as what happened with Ulis.

I like Bohnannon, and he'd be a good get. He's good friends with McCaffrey and Pemsl. The guy we really missed on was IC West's Wyatt Lohaus, a deadly shooter who I predict will blow up pretty soon at UNI with another year's experience under his belt. .

Fran could afford to wait on Ulis (without going after others) because he had both Gesell & Clemmons for 2 full years...

he cant afford to wait on anyone this year...I don't know if the offer to Jackson is an indicator that Moore is leaning another way...I do think Fran will get a very talented point guard in the class of 2016,,whether its Moore or someone else.

I think you are right Dan. Fran is not going to wait and get shorted this year. He will take a good talent, but he isn't going to sit around anymore. So, getc off the pot.

But who is our true #1 at any of the positions we are recruiting...?

I am sure Fran realizes that he needs both a PG and a big guy who can defend the basket. I don't know who Fran wants most at either position, but it is wise not to wait on any one kid. Playing time should be an easy sell at both positions, and Fran's up-tempo style and history of success should also help.

I am not saying that Lohaus will be not be good at UNI but keep in mind this is projecting at UNI against MoValley competition which is essentially one other really good team in WSU. How does that translate to playing in one of the best, if not the best basketball conferences in the country? The conference that is consistently putting teams into the final four and championship games?

Did we really miss on him because he will be a good MVC player? UNI won 1 game in the tourney finishing at the top of the MVC with WSU. Same number of tourney wins as Iowa. They lost to the first power 5 team they faced who was later defeated by MSU from the B1G. That's just a perspective of the competition level.

If we had extra schollys to burn at that time no problem but we need HIGH level talent to compete in the B1G night in night out. Tough to get that but the reality is UNI's talent level is mid level B1G at best when they have a stellar team. Put the UNI hysteria to bed.

Those of you burning up Iowa for not offering Lohous, please keep in mind that the kid had a very serious medical condition that was unresolved until after he was in college. Taking him was a huge risk. Glad the problem got resolved but it could have just as easily gone the other way.

Fran was not prepared to offer Lohaus as soon as UNI did (I believe it was after Lohaus had just finished his junior season at West).....Lohaus was not willing to wait...it is that simple.

Huerter, moore an simpson are the main pg targets. Coach francis watched huerter this weekend out east. It's good to see iowa being proactive with other options, although hopefully we can land I of those three 2016 PGs. That being said, I think tyler cook is probably iowa top target. We will probably know more in august on where we stand with certain guys.

I don't think Huerter is a PG prospect, he's definitely a 2.

Moore has been the only visitor.

Disagree to a certain extent. I think Huerter is being recruited as a combo guard who can play PG- like Williams.
That certainly seems to be the route McCaffery is headed with respect to his back court players. In my personal opinion, I don't think Gesell is actually a true, bona fide point guard in the classic sense. If a John Stockton type of PG comes into the mix, McCaffery would certainly welcome him with open arms. But, I don't think that's an all or nothing proposition for his style of play.

I think something similar can be said about what McCaffery wants in the post. Sure, he'd love to have someone 6'11" 260 lbs and with a 'back to the basket' mentality to commit to Iowa, but I think he'd be OK with guys in the 6'7" to 6'9" range who are long, athletic, and versatile to fill that spot.

There are not many "true pass first" type of PGs in college basketball or in te nba. Huerter can play either Hurd spot and could play pg fine. Moore is a shoot first pg. Simpson is probably the most"pass forst" pg we are after

Nothing wrong with a PG who can score himself, when circumstances dictate it like the end of a shot clock or game. Still, the Hawks will need a player who can run the offense and can play good on-ball defense on the other end.

It's very competitive, but I think Iowa has a legit shot at Tyler Cook. He really likes the coaching staff and feels comfortable in IC. However, Missouri will be tough with their close ties. I think Moore will be tough, but Iowa will be in it until the end ... and certainly can land his services. I think Nick Rackocevic is another one that could wind up at Iowa. Those three, along with Pemsl, would make for an outstanding class. To me, Simpson and Huerter are longer shots; while Bohannon and Kriener are down the road a bit.

Nhra, I agree with your analysis. I don't think Fran would have offered Jackson if he didn't think he was a player. Too early to panic, saw where Moore said he wants to get through the July tourney period, then narrow down his list. He said he wanted to make his decision fairly early on so I would think by September. Only time will tell.

So his problem was just solved in the last 12 months? I thought they got it under control a couple years ago?

Agreed. The story definitely hasn't been told on this recruiting class; and I think there are some real opportunities here. It seems to me the staff has quite a few PGs on their radar; and will get someone they feel will contribute. I think Fran is closer now than he has been in the past. We are definitely in the conversation much deeper into the summer now...

I could be wrong but I believe Charlie Moore is the #1 target for this class. PG is such a critical need - even more so with 2 senior PGs set to graduate.
Williams could be very good but even if that is the case, he will need help and, of course, its always good to have a couple good PGs on the roster.

Think most will say Tyler Cook is the biggest target, but Moore and Simpson aren't far behind.

The day after Moore visited Iowa, our staff contacted Lucas. You could say Fran didn't think Moore was thrilled with Iowa or maybe Fran just doesn't want to get burned this year by a PG from Chicago.

Don't know if Fran thought he wasn't thrilled. Charlie came out after the visit and said it was excellent. My biggest concern is the pressure these Chicago kids get to go to Champaign. We were in early and have shown a lot of love. Only time will tell with Mr. Moore.

I know Michigan and a few other BIG schools have Lucas on their radar so the kid has talent. I wouldn't consider him a fall back at all. Very good film.

I think Cook is a priority as his interest in Iowa is pretty high. I think PG as a whole is also important, but they may feel as good about some of the newer offers as they do Moore.

Maybe Charlie played a few games with the boys and looked subpar?

Then again, maybe Charlie, Fran & staff, and the whole team hit it off and an accepted offer is days away...?

If Moore chooses not to come to iowa it's not gonna stop this hawk basketball train from moving full speed ahead, Fran is getting this thing rolling.

Agreed. Fran is a machine. He will not stop until he wins the B1G. With the ball handlers we have on the team now, and joining this fall, topped with the way Fran coaches spacing, we will be just fine regardless of the PG. IMHO.

One of my favorite Hawkeye coaches of any sport, of all time. He's good.
