Regression of Bohannon's Sweet Shot

Bohannon has lost the edge/chip on his shoulder that he used to play with and is no longer the guy who was burying Wisconsin/Northwestern, etc late in games earlier in his career. I only saw the last two minutes of the game and overtime because of a work dinner, but what I observed was 1) Bohannon almost lose the game for us in regulation with that awful ass three pointer as time expired where Keegan bailed him out with an incredible tip, 2) pure, unadulterated abuse on the defensive end. Specifically in 2OT, PSU was driving into the lane on him at will and got multiple shots there to build a lead. 3) a wide open missed three pointer (that also wasn’t close) in 2OT to basically seal the deal for the PSU

And yet, you can’t blame Jordan, who is going out and playing 35 minutes even though he clearly doesn’t have it and clearly hasn’t had it the entire conference play. Yet he is being called upon to attempt game winners even though we have a first team all big ten player on our squad. Then Fran subs in Perkins to play defense in crunch time… why is he playing half the minutes of somebody who is worse at defense AND shooting a pathetic percentage from the field? Did you know that Bohannon is shooting 29% from the field in Big Ten play? 27% from three? That was before this game. Compared to 41 and 23% for Perkins… which is nothing to write home about either

I hate singling out one player, but damn Fran, it’s time to give somebody else a look

He was a lot more open when we had a legit big man to draw doubles. Now that we don't his only looks are in motion off balance, and he apparently doesn't practice those. But you can tell that guys like Stefanovic do.

As far as defense goes, perhaps they'd be better off putting him on whoever the weakest of the opponent's 3 or 4 guards/small forwards on the floor are.

If you have to put him on somebody a little bigger, just plan for help earlier so that whoever it is that has the ball doesn't have time to set and post inside or see the floor to distribute it to whoever is planning to help Jordan.

But if Fran insists on playing him so much, he needs to stop putting him on the other team's ball handlers.

Most teams don't have 3 to 4 guards they can put on the floor at any given time that can just take anyone off the dribble, especially if help is there.

Yes, this is just spitballing, but again it's from the perspective of Fran thinking he needs to keep playing JBo the minutes that he's getting.......

What else can be done to keep him from being a liability under the circumstances?.

You can’t, and it’s BS that help should ever be required for our starting two guard. If you trust Ulis but not Perkins, then slide Ulis over to the two guard and let Toussaint play PG. Of course that will never happen

Vs Minnesota, after Fran promised to revamp the starting lineup based on how the guys have been playing...Bohannan still gets the start at point guard and his stat line:

36 mins played, 2-7 from the field, 1 assist, 2 rebounds. He tallied another 2 air balls to his Big 10 single season air ball record.

He's actually playing more minutes than ever before and is playing worse than ever before.

With Bohannan taking over the point, Fran decided to bench Toussaint in favor of sharp shooter Tony Perkins, who is hitting just 25% from three this year. It's painful watching all these shooters out there.

At least the opponents take the time to guard JBo. They seem to be ok with Ulis, Perkins and JoeT shooting a 3 whenever the want.

So, when JBo is on the floor, the other Hawks can play 4 on 4, instead of 4 on 5.

He has lost his confidence if you watch him. Reality play Stanford at the 2 or Chris. Gives us better D and Mismatches on O. Both are better shooters and rebounders. Jbo should should get max 10 min a game if that unless he is hitting his shot.

Bohannon's first start of season at PG. This was supposed to be a season he moved to OG and two PGs take over.

The 3 players, including JoBo have struggled. Bohannon did hit a couple 3s. Even Ulis hit a big 3 after struggling, like others at the rim during much of the game.

I liked seeing Tony Perkins incerted into the starting lineup, but Keegan, Jordan and Kris all had air balls early first half and it was a perfect start.

Happens to best of them. BTN still suggesting Keegan is a candidate for National Player of Year.

Iowa getting the win .... Mission Accomplished

I’m sure someone can find the quote about coming back for his 6th year and his talk with Touissant about he was only coming back this year to play the 2. Pt guard keys were being handed over to Touissant. Guess not.

He has shown an inability to play effectively at the 2 spot. Hopefully, the Hawks can find a line up to start and close out halves.

What is interesting to me is that he was moved to the starting PG spot because the coaches think he is ineffective at the 2, but he continued to play at the 2 spot in the second half—Ulis was playing the 1 from what I recall.

Rome wasn't built in a day. I just hope Fran shows a little more willingness to change up lineups to get out of the funk or to overcome the poor play we have seen too often in spurts this season.

Obviously, Bohannon opening at PG wasn't all bad, but also defensively, he showed he was better at the 2.
